I like that one, for it being just a basic exercise in form and light.
In spite of the free-for-all-as-long-as-you-stroke-Chmrr's-cock-or-ego policy of the VCL, the site has one big advantage over even more creatively-void places like Yerf, in that you get to see images like this.
Of course, that hardly makes up for the make-everything-turn-to-shit vibe of the place... |

Chris> I'm a yerfer....that is a blob, yes it's amusing to look at but yerf has it's own attractions too...It's not a very good exercise in form and light..it's more a sorta lookit I gots a smudge tool and I know how to (over)use it. |

I'm a yerfer....
I'd already kinda guessed, after watching how much of a furry apologist you are.
Get the fuck out.
It's not a very good exercise in form and light..it's more a sorta lookit I gots a smudge tool and I know how to (over)use it.
Aww diddums, it doesn't live up to the Yerf standard of generic assembly-line fursona production...
I said it was a basic exercise in form and light. People who're starting out should do that sort of thing more often. |

Grow up, I might be a yerfer but I've got enough maturity to behave like an adult. Apologist? What the hell are you on about? I think the fandoms got a heap of fucked up people in it, but I don't apologise for them more wonder when the hell the more stupid latchers on are going to stop trying to pretend their mental problems are normal.
And who the Hell do you think you are telling me to get out, I've got just as much right to discuss the furdumb's latest stupidity as you have.
Are you an artist? I've seen loads of these 'furry' overkill smudge tool junk shown off...being able to smudge doesn't show form and light especially since the shadows and highlights aren't even consistent. Basic? Hah...more like Desperate. Basic exercises in light and dark are usually cubes and the like, Not oh lookit the fuzzy. |

Wow. Those all really suck. Well, except for the giraffe smut. That guy's a decent artist, I reckon. And since I have absolutely no idea what effect the imscartchyou pic was going for, I really can't comment on that.

Granted, I'm being a little unfair seeing as how on the rare occasions when furries attempt even part of a human figure, the result almost always looks like it's missing a chromosome. |

I stand most horribly corrected. Fuck me. Everytime I try and be nice and cut these guys some slack, I learn too late that I've been a goddamn chump. Damn you, Pshaw! Damn you and your frolicing centaurs! |

Oh, come on, Computolio! I said I was sorry! Must you continue to punish me? I promise I will never again defend an artist on the basis of a single picture. This was a lesson painfully learned, but it will stick all the longer for it.

Yuck indeed.
It's all the more disturbing when you consider that Final Fantasy Tactics Advance was released in America only a month or so ago. Shouldn't there be some sort of grace period before a work is dragged into the all-sullying fuckpit of bad furry fanart?
But who I am kidding? They've probably been drawing dickgirl Vieras and vore Nu-Mous ever since Square announced the Japanese version of the game. |

I have seen some people, who did pictures of a/their character committing acts of sexual intercourse with Ch’marr’s character, and I have seen quite a few pictures of “ch’marr”s (that is, Chris cogdon’s character) with his “nerf bat of adminstraion” and ass kissing stuff like that, and it made me wonder why there are so many.
What sort of benefits does that give a person?
Moderatorship?
I did notice that one of the moderators had drawn a picture of Ch’marr. |

Do you have any qualifications in art? Are you currently studying art?
For example, I myself am studying an AS level in “fine art” (part time for my amusement really)
Though I doubt any of you are interested in my pictures of dead bonsai trees.
But they are there should you wish to see.
You say in your profile that you are a freelance illustrator, however, according to website I saw, relating to the gargoyles, you give your birthdate as 1981, yet your age as 18.
Unless that website is years out of date of course or something.
Also, Yerf is essentially run by a little clique for the benefit of a little clique. It’s all about power tripping, every time someone applies and they can reject them, it’s like manna from heaven to the people who ARE in the little gang.
I’d stear well clear of it if I was you. |

No I don't have a single qualification in art because I kept being stuck on 'Basic' courses, my art teachers reckoned I was no good because I wasn't producing the stuff they called 'fine art', of course I got throughly bored and when they refused to let me do life drawing that was the final straw. My second attempt went down the tubes after I tore the liagments in my leg and missed over 6 months.
I'm due to start some courses in fine art with another place soon.
Also a lot of places labelled me the disabled sop and just had me along to the interview to boost the numbers of disabled students they could say applied, most didn't bother to look at my work. I would be interested in seeing.

What website? My birthdate is indeed 1981, I am currently 22 yrs and 4 months old

I don't think so, it's actually a good idea because the standards force artists to push their talents hard to apply, I just want the advertising that goes with a yerf gallery, to stand a chance of securing one I've finetuned my skills to the point where I could be considered lower end professional.
Though I think Epilogue is far more clique like, especially since anyone can apply but each piece of work is judged before it goes up. At least when you've got a yerf gallery it's yours to upload anything unless it breaks the rules. |

Ah, Was this at a sixth Form College or an art college?
I know someone who worked as a head of department at a sixth form college, and Sixth form colleges were privatised under the Tories I believe, and since then, they’ve been on a downhill slide into badness.
I’m not sure about art colleges, but the same thing might have happened.
Where I’m doing art, They’re so obsessed with “bums on seats” that a course only meant to have about 20 max on it, has 37 And we have to share a room with a graphic design group, the promised dividers to divide up the room never materialised, A promised art trip was cancelled on the day of departure due to not getting the insurance together etc.
They didn’t even ask to see any work that I’d done, me merely having 10 GCSE’s A-C and 3 A-levels was enough. Never mind that I don’t even have a GCSE in art.
What website? My birthdate is indeed 1981, I am currently 22 yrs and 4 months old

True, the reason why I did the part time AS, is mostly to Force myself to draw, since otherwise I am lazy. |

An Art college, and yes that is way outta date, I really should get JEB to update it :)
I don't have ANY high school qualifications, in my last year of high school, I ended up hospitalised and the school never arranged for the home schooling I was supposed to have so The only thing I've got is an access course that supposed to get me onto any course. |

Ah, that makes sense too. I just figured the pregancy thing was her costume. When something confuses me, I just naturally fall back on a fetish interpretation.
Although actually, I guess I don't think that one's that bad then. It's vaguely amusing at least. But for the rest, I stand firm. They all suck. Especially that subway tunnel pic. AAAAAAAAAARGH MY EYES |

i seen a keychain one time that had a picture of 2 really fat naked people on it, and it said MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE
furryfandom (and furries themselves), overall, has now gotten itself into a situation where any legitimate attempt at tasteless/adult humor is going to come across as fucked up or sick (in the bad way) |

"The Gay Man's Terrie Smith."
Near-identical methods, presentation, and identically bland results. And at the time he first appeared (?1997), their art was difficult to tell apart, too. |

I'm drawing a blank on this one. The pic's not bad - it's reasonably competent and it's not scary smut - and the description is your standard angsty "I suck, buy my crap because I'm going away FOREVER," but that doesn't reach the level of unbelievability you suggest. Am I missing some important backstory here? |

yeah, but other than that it did create a nice fur effect in certain parts.
I think the only problem is where it shouldnt have been used, or where you can see where the effect bled over into where it shouldnt have (the pants)

heh, i dunno, since its a cartoon character i dont see much wrong with this..i thought it was kind of funny...since its someones character it could be some inside joke or just a goofy picture

something about this picture just really really irritates me, i cant quite figure it out (aside from the obvious of course)
http://us.vclart.net/vcl/Artists/Amy-Simmonds/Snoopypressie.jpg
Furry Archetype #236: Crippling inability to draw the human face
While I wont dispute that this picture is indeed hideous..i think this is definatly a cartoon by definition, the intentionally exaggerated / distorted features. (the eyes, obviously)
The only things I noticed here is that the distance between the the nose-lips-chin in profile is too compressed, i think that why (at least i personally) find this to be ugly
its also what is giving the character the 'appearance of having a muzzle'
Seriously though, Im just not sure that you can be 'crippled' by drawing animals. I mean you can either draw or you cant. in order to be subconciously slipping up while you are drawing to accidentally mar features in such a way..i mean thats just corrected by taking time to do things right, thinking things out ahead of time, sketching first etc |

i like that giraffe pic myself, its well inked and drawn. Apart from the fact it looks more like a giraffe than a human stops it from looking attractive, I'd say he was a pretty good artist when it comes to human and animal anatomy and inking. |

I've taken two days off from work for a busted knee and a sprained neck and you know... that hurt less than looking at... whatever the fuck this picture is of. I think the sub zero windchill searing my skin with frostbite all day would be a relief by comparison. Thank you for confirming furry can get even more twisted. The artist should be publicly beaten with hardcover editions of every book ever written on Salvador Dali. |

Come on, all these submissions and no mention of the travesty that is Steve Burt yet?

'Cause we can't get enough Final Fantasy Tactics Advance unbirthing fetish art, can we?
Yuck.
I've never known of that concept before. Thanks... >_>

...And then, one day, Nightweaver goes off the deep end. I will no longer accept that there are any sacred cows in this fandom, even Ozy and Millie. There ARE no special snowflakes. And I just proved it.
Clever satire of how fucked up furry is, or just plain wrong on a fundamental level? You decide. |

Seems its been taken down already, nothing is left but the thumbnail
Its kinda funny - If its satire, but who can tell?
It seems more a celebration of slash or a statement like 'I'll slash whatever characters I want to' ...something like that
That can be funny, but with Furry Fandom's track record it dont quite come across the way it should
didnt D.C. Simpson freak out about something like this before? I seem to remember that was just a chatlog too...shit, dont tell him about this pic... |

Isn’t that just a saltaire though?
The iron cross itself was a medal, and that medal took the form of the saltaire.
I believe that Portuguese ships used to have saltaires on their sails. |

Digital Boy...the link you posted reminded me of a recognized and accepted artist, can't remember his name...but he's fascinated by Aryans. He does a lot of portraits of them. He even had a series of skinheads depicting poses from the Kama Sutra. Pretty bizarre stuff. |

I'm the artist of the pic in question. I intended it mainly as revenge against my ex, Alison Scharlemann. She was this Sonic fan who was about as immature as they come. Why I ever fell for her is a mystery. However, she was a huge fan of Dave's comic and art, so I arranged to post that to her site and piss her off. It worked too well, and got Simpson on my case. It almost led to my site getting taken down, because I had also decided to post that pic to my site. Bad idea, if not in concept than at least in execution. It was too obvious, and I paid for it.
And the truth is, it not only wasn't that good, it wasn't even aimed directly at Simpson. But whatever. That was a month ago, and I'm trying to get over it now. I don't know what is up with you guys, but you all seem a LOT more bitter towards furry than I am. And that makes me happy somehow. Happy that, in my seven years in this fandom, I've but scratched the surface of how disgustingly hypocritical and insular it actually is. I hope that I will find a home here amongst you guys. If not, elsewhere. I never have found a place to call "home" yet. So if this turns out bad, it won't really be any skin off of my back. Just so you know. I might have more of the same kind of pics coming soon. Later. |

Steve Burt has, if I remember, attempted in some of his descriptions to draw fire away from himself by stating that he mostly does that kind of stuff to get a rise out of people.... like he's bravely pushing the bounds of mental depravity as some kind of mental exercise. Even if that were so, and not a crock of horse hockey, I have to question the psyche of anyone that would draw that kind of stuff and come up with that kind of scenario for any reason.
http://vcl.ctrl-c.liu.se/vcl/Artists/Zax/Beyond_the_Gate.JPG
Oh look... his furry dream has come true. He's found the way to shuffle off the real life burdens of taxes, jobs, and personal responsibility to commune with nature. Take THAT real life. Ooooh.... burned reality good, didn't he? He is so much wiser than all of us, aspiring to frolic and eat grass and poop wherever he wants and find a nice filly to shack up with and have 2.5 ponies.
And then, one day, he finds himself in a bottle of Elmer's being smeared on a cracker by some kindergartener.

Awww... so sad. Someone send this guy the "Kill Yourself" picture.
http://vcl.ctrl-c.liu.se/vcl/Artists/Saken/
I like women with a little meat on their bones.. but I'm sorry, being a candidate for a simultaneous stroke, MI, and diabetic seizure is NOT sexy. I guess if a furry is given the choice between learning to diet and exercise, and convincing themselves that being a 400 pound raccoon is sexy, they'll take the latter.
Given the color of the umbrella and demon are the same, I'd theorize that the "artist" saw an umbrella stuffed in a mailbox somewhere, and got this idea.
The possibility of that being true is more horrifying than the image itself.
"Oh... look at that umbrella someone left in a mailbox. Hmm.... puts me in mind of a demon sodomizing Gir in a postal worker's hat." |

Not only is this a bad artist, but those descriptions of the artwork, and character in question are really really awful not only that but from what they say the whole thing reads like a badly done imitation of Sonic, as you'll see he's got all of the Sonic cleches covered, only the names where changed to protect the copyright.

^^What does this guy do? Well, evidently he draws crappy pictures and writes something vaguely resembling English, but far more retarded. In other words, he is a furry.
And why the hell does every furry do anime? What the fuck is wrong with western-style? You're not Japanese, you're Retard-o-gay-ican! |

Looks like Sonic with a healthy dose of Fatal Fury.
I think a lot of furries go with anime style because it's what's in right now. My wife was asking the other day why I thought anime seems to be gaining in popularity. I speculated that one thing was that Cartoon Network was making it more accessable to people that would not otherwise spend $25 for a DVD of an anime they're not too familiar with. I also figure that DVDs are making anime a bit more appealing to those folks that like anime, but can't stand the rather bland English voice acting many have, since the DVD usually allows both for English viewing or Japanese with subtitles. But, the big thing may be that its somehow become less of a social stigma. Anime is not considered something simply for pimply-faced geeks in Coke-bottle glasses anymore.
It's also a matter that it may just appeal to some folks more than others, both in terms of art and story. When I was a teen, I was big on New Mutants. I got a few other comics, but I didn't really follow any like I did New Mutants. But, about the time they killed Cypher off, they not only lost me because of that, but they changed artists to someone that had a style I absolutely detested. So, I stopped following that. I stumbled across some manga like Xenon and Lum. After a short time, manga was coming out more, like Outlanders and Appleseed (the first time I had ever seen Masamune Shirow's work). Having been fed a healthy diet of Robotech, G-Force, and Voltron as a kit, anime already had an allure.
I think with the younger furs, you could definitely speculate that they're going anime just because it's trendy. For folks who are a little older than your teenybopper furs these days, though, it's reasonable to say we just liked anime better than American comics. It's not a matter of rejecting one culture over another.. just art preference.
I will say that, as an American, however, I harbor no delusions about being able to draw anime/manga. You can draw in the style, but a lot of kids don't realize that anime/manga is as much a cultural thing as an artistic thing. A lot of why something is drawn the way it is in anime/manga comes from Japanese culture. Take how characters may hold even a can of soda with one hand around it, and the other hand supporting the base. This is how a tea cup is traditionally held. But little things like that get overlooked by Americans trying to draw anime/manga. Ever notice how when a girl waves someone over, there may be this kind of "cat paw" gesture? Japanese don't wave you over like Americans. We use an under-handed "shoveling" kind of wave. They use an over-handed "scooping" motion. But, again, unless you grew up there or travelled there a lot, you might not know that.
So, we can draw in the style, but we can never replicate it. There are two girls in my Japanese class that claim they want to be manga artists. Uh.. I hate to tell them, but that's not likely. For one, they suck at drawing, and two, they're gaijin. You basically have to have grown up in Japan to understand what goes into the comics.
Probably the best known example of how American "manga" will never look right is the works by Ben Dunn*. He uses a lot of anime/manga conventions in his comics, and tries to replicate the style (though it looks very much like if Scott Alston were trying to draw anime). But, his stuff never truly looks like anime... close, but no cigar.
I think what's even funnier is the people that memorize a few lines from subtitled anime, and then try to use it like they know what they're saying. I was at a Game Stop the other night, and the two guys behind the counter were discussing the use of domo versus domo arigatoo in movies they had seen with a customer that was a friend of theirs. The customer was insisting that arigatoo is never said without domo. The clerks were saying they had seen a movie where they were using them individually. The customer insisted it was wrong. For half a second, I thought about turning to him and asking "Ah! Anata wa Nihongo ga wakarimasu ka?" ("Ah! Do you understand Japanese?") :)
*Ben Dunn.. one of the most aptly named men in comics. As in, "Ben Dunn before" or "Ben Dunn to death." The guy doesn't so much produce comics as collages of stuff from every anime/manga he's ever seen and thought "Cooooooool.... I wish I had thought of that!" It's like a furry giving Minerva Mink auburn hair instead of blonde and calling it an "original character." |

Every last bit of the sexually related art screams louder than a Tomcat kickin the afterburners, "I AM SO TOTALLY UNABLE TO ACCEPT MYSELF AS I AM THAT I NEED TO FANTASIZE I AM ANOTHER SPECIES ENTIRELY TO EVEN CONCEIVE OF EVER HAVING SEX!"
Nothing like that to get other people interested in you as a potential mating choice. Yup, nothing like that to get people hot for you.
So if furs don't tend to reproduce, where do all the new ones come from?

There's definitely a trend among the spooge-artists of being overly uncomfortable with the concept of human sexuality. A lot of these new furries are young enough that they're still figuring out what the hell goes where. But, society tells us teens are supposed to be sex-obsessed, chasing anything that has something remotely resembling tits. So, the kids that feel bad because they don't live up to the stereotypical sex-crazed teens they see in movies feel bad because they don't live up to that stereotype. Heaven forbid you simply be so dedicated to just growing up and... <gasp>.. maybe your studies that you make a vaguely responsible decision to not have sex for a long time.
So, either they feel bad for not acting on their impulses, or they do act and feel bad afterwards. Either way, they exacerbate their angst and confusion and wind up uncomfortable with the whole sex scene. Then furry steps in and opens a mix of Pandora's box and the gates of Candyland for them.
It might be small wonder there are so many furs that "discover" they're gay online.... they have a few crappy relationships with girls, get overly self-conscious with the whole dating an sex scene, and feel bad/guilty about whatever the hell happened in their history. So, they withdraw, and the jocks say "Haw haw! Whut are you.. gay?" So, the kid starts to think "Hmmm... maybe I am." The furry freaks, ever-eager to recruit some new meat, say "Hmmm.. maybe you are. But, hey, all kinds of animals do it. It's just nature... you're just more in touch with nature than those muscleheads. Tell you what... why don't you meet with me at Anthrocon in my hotel room and we'll find out for certain.   "
I sometimes suspect my brother is that way... that maybe he was predominantly bi, but several crappy experiences with girls in high school (one nearly stalking him, one dumping him at a party after dating for a while simply because he wouldn't sleep with her... running off to sleep with someone else that night, etc.) made him swear off of that side for a while. He's had some dalliances with women from time to time since those days, but has a partner these days. |

That guy's whole directory is eerily reminescent of what a slightly less dysfunctional David Gonterman would be like if he ever found Miss Right.
And dear god, you're hitting the nail on the head there with the thinly veiled body thetans thing. Of course, it could just be a coincidence of laughable storytelling but I have trouble believing that. |

The guy is involved with "Kit & Kay", so that makes me think he's pretty thick, and it to have been a coincidence; on the other hand, that is the Co$ "E-Meter" philosophy. Personally, I'm not going to commit just yet to saying he's with the cult or not. . . (Although, I would find it pretty fucking funny if he did get a serious crash and burn over trying to introduce and defend Scientology's 'beliefs' within the fandom groups he's involved with.)
Someone clap clam-shells near him and see if his jaw locks shut. :-) |

Clam indicator... rising...
I think the clincher will be if Temple uses an electronic gadget to help remove the 'body thetans' things, possibly in a facilitated counciling setting.
(What's the story with Al and Tawana, anyway? I haven't found any evidence the two have actually met in person... It's another of those creepy long-distance-relationships deals maintained by drawing yiffy drawings?) |

The funny thing is, they seem to spend a lot of time aguing in their comics, too. |

Y'know, you'd think that, for all the loving attention they put into rendering flying spooge and all, they'd take the time to make it look like something other than the spray you get when you get to the last gasp of a spray can of whipped cream or shaving cream or something. I don't have as intimate a knowledge of the physics of horse ejaculate as a lot of furry artists might, but I've seen enough money shots in human porn in my life to understand that even the "enhanced" shots have a certain motion to them, and it's far from anything like a high-powered garden mister. |
