Today has been a very interesting day.

I'm a frequent poster on VCL Horrors on Livejournal. A few days ago, Nightkrawler (the artist on VCL with the largest gallery, he surpassed Doug Winger a good while ago and hasn't looked back) came to post a rant in the group. Nothing too special, just the standard 'you shouldn't make fun of people for posting their awful art in public' shpiel.

So, I made a few not-so-nice replies to his posts. I'll be the first to admit I'm terrible at flaming, and my posts were pretty tame, mostly making fun of his spelling. Shortly afterward, the entire thread was deleted, for reasons unknown.

This morning, I was browsing the recent uploads, when I found...this.

The description reads as such: For the asshole back in VCL Horror list on LJ that just wont listen to reason.

So what? It's just a piece of hate-art, you say. Stupid, childish, vindicative, yes, but why are you making such a big deal about it, you may be asking.

I posted it in VCL Horrors, in this thread. That's when someone pointed out that the victim of his brutal online asskicking looked...well, an awful lot like my LJ icon...

To think that I, with my half-assed flames, managed to so piss off someone that they felt the need to give me my comeuppance by drawing my character in a bloody pulp makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. And it makes me laugh. Very, very hard.

UPDATE: Yes, it is Zeis in the picture. Straight from the...uh...whatever-he-is' mouth.

Oh yeah.. way to go Nightkrawler. You demonstrated without a doubt that you are so pissed off and frustrated at the impotence of your situation that you were forced to resort to a classic furry and/or kindergarden-level coping mechanism..... drawing your revenge fantasy out on paper so all could see how much of a badass you are. Yes, yes... I bow to NK's superiority and cower in fear of the possibility that I too might be ripped asunder on paper and have my red ink spilled onto my shoes.

I especially like how he couldn't spell "masterpiece" right. Masturpiece... masturpiece... gee, might it be coincidence that he misspelled it in a way that makes it resemble.. Oh.. I dunno..... MASTURBATE????

Maybe NK just coined a new word.... Masturpiece... a work of artistic achievement designed for the purpose of being looked at while masturbating. Works for me.

I also like the classic furry defense of "Well, they can't ALL be good!" in response to the notion that NONE of them are good. But, I'm guessing NK is one of those quantity=quality guys.

UPDATE: Yes, it is Zeis in the picture. Straight from the...uh...whatever-he-is' mouth.

I believe he's a Southwestern blue-crested suckyartist.

If he'd done a pic of himself ramming his dick in Zeis' eyesocket, I probably would have laughed to death.

I can't help but notice he refrained from giving himself a huge bulging crotch, too...I guess my 'ur spelling suxx' comments really emasculated him.

I'm reading through the LJ discussion of it now, and NK clearly displays one of the traits typical to furries... the "I can't draw better than this because X" syndrome. They post their art and expect to be treated like a god, and then get pissy when people suggest improvement and usually take one of two routes:

A) Though they insist they know they have room for improvement, they don't seem to really be cognizant of that fact.... that they are at a point of development rather than real artistic achievement. They get uppity about criticism, even constructive, in a state of denial that they are not at the pinnacle of artistic merit. You rarely hear a fur artist say "Yeah, I have a long way to go before I'm really any good."

B) They offer some excuse for why their art is no good. They have bad materials. They were rushed. Or, my favorite, they describe themselves as lazy. WTF is with that? That's like saying "I wanted to pour my heart and soul onto the page in an attempt to express myself.... buuuuuuut... then I decided I needed a nap, so I just scribbled it out really quick." Basically, they just can't admit to themselves that they need to improve... that their art shows effort, but not a refinement of their skills or even, dare I say, talent. If the art sucks, it's not their fault. It's the pens, or the paper, or their parents nagging them to mow the lawn, or that darned Splinter Cell beckoning them to abandon their brushes for the game controller.

The whole thing with those excuses says to me that they're just drawing for the recognition..... that art is a tedious process used to produce the result they want... the fame of seeing their character on the 'net and the accolades from furries who will wank off to anything. I've even seen furries admit they don't like drawing... they just want the pictures. Those of a truly artistic bent will pretty much draw for the sake of drawing. Art is about the journey, not so much the destination. I can't tell you how many doodles I've done over the years that are thrown away minutes later. Hell, I can draw better stuff than NK on a foggy bathroom mirror with my finger than he apparently can with his budding art school education. Every night when I shower, I usually use the rubber end of my razor as a stylus and doodle on the shower door... and then wipe it away a second later. It's the process I'm enjoying, not the product.

And since when did art schools lower their standards so drastically? When I started as an art major, I had to have a pretty good and diverse portfolio to even convince them to give me an application. I get the sense that many of the "art schools" furries attend are just standard colleges that have an art department. Just like any mo-mo with a drafting table in his parents' basement is something like "Yifffire Studios" or "Rectal-Cranial Inversion Design."

And if he's taking art classes, why hasn't his style improved one iota? Is he learning stuff in class and then abandoning it when he leaves the campus?

Another thing NK doesn't seem to get is there is a difference between learning the drawing process, and the artistic process. Coming from an art background, a scribble on paper doesn't constitute art any more than standing in a garage makes me a car. Any idjit can DRAW a picture, but it takes stuff like knowledg of mediums, a sense of form and layout, color design, use of lights and darks, etc. to make art. There aren't many furry artists out there. There's hundreds of furry doodlers, though.

Yeah, funny that. The only time I've ever had ANY trouble with my scanner is the time the power supply blew up and the universal 12v supply I used to replace it wasn't powerful enough. I've never had any trouble when I've been using one that isn't mine either, so I know it's not a unique "magical scanner that actually works" or anything.

Maybe it's just that I know how to actually USE one without fucking up the settings...

Hell, you could even look at scanning it as part of the artistic process. After all, it's a consideration for people that use them in producing images for magazines and all. Do these furs figure a scanner is "fire and forget" technology? You cram the thing in, hit scan, and it becomes a crap shoot as to whether or not you'll get a decent image? Sure, some things like colored pencil shading or prisma markers might not look AS good once the scanner picks up areas where it's heavier and all... but it's still not hard to get a decent image.

I used to jokingly refer to "scanner inking." I love the look of the soft line quality pencils have, but need the darkness of inking. If I was doing a color piece, I'd ink it so I had nice, crisp lines once I went into Photoshop. But if it was just a character sketch, I'd often leave it in pencil and jack around with the contrast settings so I had the dark "scanner inked" lines that still had the soft touch of pencil.

Maybe someone needs to point them in the direction of their scanner's software so they can fuss with the contrast, saturation, and stuff.... DPI people... you CAN overcome the moire effect in many cases.

Speaking of markers really standing out, did it ever strike anyone else as bad form when you'd see a comic cover done by someone that uses markers, like Terrie Smith, and you'd have HUGE areas filled in with marker.... and you could see all of the dark areas where the markers had overlapped? Sheesh... Terrie, lemme introduce you to a little think called a brush and colored ink. I mean... in her own prints is fine and all, but if you're trying to make a slick comic book cover... do you want it looking like a 4th grader colored it?

MEMO TO FURRIES: THE MOST FUCKED-UP, BROKEN SCANNER IN THE WORLD WILL NEVER CAUSE PERSPECTIVE PROBLEMS IN YOUR SCRIBBLINGS. YOUR SCANNER AND YOUR DRAWING ABILITIES SUCK COMPLETELY INDEPENDANT OF EACH OTHER.

P.S. Wanna improve your skillz? DRAW SOMETHING OTHER THAN TALKING ANIMAL PEOPLE FOR FUCK'S SAKE

His comeback was a poorly drawn piece of crap with a huge spelling error in it. You didn't have to write anything, that's hilarious on it's own.

Eh..most of the stuff was so uninteresting I couldnt even get past the thumbnails.

Also , having too much artwork online can be a bad thing. when i see that many subdirectories..none of which interest me to begin with and just thousands (more?) of files..

there is no way in hell im looking through all of it, or any of it. Just on surface it appears 90% of it is one fucking character...his

Yup... it serves the purpose much of furry "art" does..... to grab the viewer's attention and say:

L00K AT MIE KARAKTUR! I AM TEH K3WL3ST! L00K AT MY WING-WANG! IT 1Z B1G!!!!! ALL TEH LAD13S WANT M3, ALL TEH DUD3Z WANT TA B3 M3!!!!

New from Eidos... the latest installment in the Legacy of Kain series. It's about the other side of Nosgoth's underworld... the fucking and sucking of werewolves. Fuzzy creatures come together to yiff, and one outcast werewolf discovers its his destiny to record these events on paper and share it with the populace.

Eidos presents: SOUL RAPER!

Actually, this reminds me, just to show you that the truth is funnier than fiction

this 'juggalo' from high school (fo' life)

..good friend

always in trouble, constantly doing short stints in county lockup for the same stupid shit. so this was really no surprise...but I havent seen him for a long while and found out a few days ago what he's been up to:

Had a kid I believe at 18 ...keeps breaking up with his girlfriend and getting back together.

-Arrested for selling loratabs (sp? prescription painkiller) outside of a bar

-Broke into a blockbuster video and stole 4 playstation IIs which he tried immediatly pawning.

-Stole $500 in stereo equipment from his fucking GRANDPARENTS

-Broke into HIS BABY'S MOMMA'S CAR AND STOLE THE RADIO

-Is currently addicted to crack

and is currently hiding out somewhere in the city, because he (again) has multiple warrants out for his arrest.

im sure there was more, but that all I can remember right now. Either way, Im pretty sure he's still down with the clown

Sounds like yer average "mundane" =)

Drugged up petty criminals who beat their wives... That's what especially the finnish society pampers to no end. They walk free, harassing everyone and get humane Subutex treatments...
I'd lock em up forever... and let them suffer till they're sober. Or exterminate them... But.. that's why I am called a nazi! =)

Is asking a little order in this world too nazi to ask?

Mayday approaches.. I fear all hell breaks loose... It's warm, on weekend this year...and booze is cheap!
May haveta stand guard in the carhole all day and see no drugged up commie bastard touches KITT!

Maybe it's time to start living like no tomorrow myself.. Break the law to the max... ---And install the red scanner thing on the car ! >=)

Order implies a lack of total and utter hedonism, and the notion of personal responsibility. The ideas of not being able to do anything you want, any time you want, anywhere you want... and then taking responsibility for your actions when you do do whatever it is you're wanting to do aren't popular ideas these days. They make people feel bad about themselves and their actions. Therefore, anything that makes people feel bad should be regulated by governments to keep nazis like you and me from making people feel that way by suggesting they be called to the carpet for the crap they pull.
