I don't mind competent adult anthro art. I don't collect it. I don't care for the excess of porn in furrydom.. especially poorly drawn porn. But, hypocritical as it may sound, I'm fine with someone having a private archive of some quality works that happen to feature both anthros and nudity. Heck, even Carl Barks of Scrooge McDuck fame produced works like this and this. It's the sheer quantity, freakishness, and lack of quality that is anything BUT private where I start to draw lines between anthro-but-also-nudie and typical furry trash.
It's typically not the anthro nature that gives it appeal, however. If you take the work of someone like Max Black Rabbit, I dont' care for the anthro element as anything more than a novelty. Disregarding the anthro aspect, however, I like Max's line quality and his overall sense of form. His "models" have a bit of meat to their hips.. though the boobs are typically grossly oversized. Or, if you look at the first Carl Barks litho... I think the duck heads look kind of goony, but the anatomy on the women, like the reclining lady in the left foreground of the first pic... has a kind of Betty Page voluptuousness going on that's nice.
So, the anthro aspect can be overlooked sometimes if a pic leaps out at me with its overall composition, posing, sense of anatomy, and theme. Taking the Barks' pictures again, I also like the harem theme. That kind of middle eastern/indian accessorizing works for me better than thigh-highs and a garter belt. Must be from growing up where my only source of boobies was National Geographic instead of Playboy. |

its a 404....I cant see it ...hooray!
I think this thread is a troll anyway..

The only thing is then, you are disregarding a large part of what the work actually is.
Im just saying if you like everything about it, except that it has anthropomorphic animal characters..why bother trying to find a way around that aspect. I pesonally DO like morph characters. 'for the novelty' but I think I am coming from a completely different direction there
Also, these Carl Barks pics show furry fandom did not actually create anything new at all. A lot of people (as in: furries and other people too) now think this sort of thing is new and is coming from furry fandom..a lot of the older furries know that isn't true |

Perhaps "overlook" wasn't the best semantics. What I was getting at is I can appreciate a picture like this or this or this and my first thought isn't "Ooooh... Zig Zag! SESSY!" I really like the pose, how Max captured little details that make the pose work.. like the hunching of the shoulders forward, and all, but it could have just as easily been a pic of a human and still be appealing. I'm not suggesting that I'm like "Well, I GUESS I can like it even if it IS a skunk thingy." The anthropomorphic aspect is fun, but it's not what really sells the picture. With some furry artists that are competent, however, I am glad in some cases it's a furry and not a human, as they can draw good morphs, but their human faces suck.
With the second pic (I opted not to post any of his really adult ones for those that might not really care to see them), I can appreciate the anthropomorphic element in it, as it's interesting to see how Max used the ears to convey a Japanese hairstyle. But the fact that she's a bunny isn't what sells the pic for me. It's just one of several tools he uses to create the effect he wanted.
For the final pic, again, the anthro element is cute, but it's not what makes the pic interesting for me. The pose is really neat, and I like how Max's figures tend to be a little meatier. I like how the ribbon strategically hides certain bits (many furries don't realize a pic can be sexy without slapping a clinical diagram of a vagina between a character's legs). But, overall, what I really meant by "overlooking" the anthro aspect is this pic works for me, anthro or not. It could have just as easily been Guilty Gear's Jam Kuradoberi and it would have been just as appealing. (The Larocha pose is very similar to that of a gashapon I have of Jam, but I can't find any pics of it that aren't dead links.)
I think the only pics I've seen where the morph aspect adds to the appeal of the pic is the kaiju girls from Neomonsterisland.com. For example, Anji Lass has a really neat design. I like her hair and the way her head spikes add to her effect. Something about the tail is cute, too... dunno. I'm not into the whole destroy buildings and crush people thing, but the character overall is really nice, and would not be the same as a bigass human woman. Then there's Space Godzilla kaiju girl. Again, a neat design that would not quite work the same as a human.
Perhaps it depends on how someone uses anthropomorphism in their own works. Since I use animals to reflect things about the characters if they were human, their design doesn't rely so heavily on the fact that they are a morph.
Also, these Carl Barks pics show furry fandom did not actually create anything new at all. A lot of people (as in: furries and other people too) now think this sort of thing is new and is coming from furry fandom..a lot of the older furries know that isn't true
Amen to that. It kind of chafes me when someone tries to claim that Egyptian gods are proof that "furry" has been around for ages. I guess it's another one of those semantic things... Anubis demonstrates anthropmorphism is nothing new, but he wasn't furry at the time he was worshipped. That's kind of like suggesting Egyptians were early goths becuse they wore ankhs and the eye of Ra markings around their eyes. |

I'd have closed the holy living fuck out of this thread hours ago (and/or edited the links to the illegal porn), but I don't have admin in this forum. Also: at least one of the links isn't broken; we're EXTREMELY FUCKING LUCKY that that pornhost has an anti-leeching system (as most do).
