Get your umbrellas out, lads, cuz it's raining men.

Seriously, I was looking in on what's been going on in the comic Jack, and saw this link. Since I like giraffes, I clicked, since it's not often you see an anthro giraffe. Turns out it's a comic where, like many, many, many, furry comics, the characters seem to be living in a gaytopia.

The artist is at least competent in rendering characters, and the colors are nice.. not to drab, not too garish. But, the page layouts overall seem to be a lot of talking heads and voice balloons. The layout of the page and frames is flat and uninteresting. I'm not sure what's with this inverse pyramid layout, either, where less and less of the page is used as you go down it.

I didn't actually bother to read each page word-for-word, but clicking through it to get a general sense of it, I noticed the distinct lack of women. Women appear in the comic about 3 times, and then as little more than background scenery.... except for the one woman that's allowed to appear on a page long enough to say "Excuse me." She, of course, has a very subservient pose as she has the audacity to address to one of TEH BUFF CHARS. We also have the focus on the chubby character, which one of the creators seems to use as an avatar (extension of self?) that, of course, seems to dish out most of the sage lines, is living proof fat leopards can always get the better of anyone silly enough to stay in shape, and catches the eye of a beefy construction worker.

We also have this plug for the infinite merits of furry cyber dating. Scrolling through it to see what's commentworthy, the tiger fellow in seems to be lusting after one of the 3 women that dare to show up in the comic... so I guess he's the token straight. Shall we start a pool on how long it is before he turns gay, though? Also, what's with the last frame on that page? Did the artist decide the tiger needed to be crammed to the side far enough that he didn't have to draw the female again? Or maybe he's pulling a Solid Snake, back to the wall for a stealth kill.

Oddly enough, it also seems that for the character with the longest neck, the giraffe is the only one that doesn't seem to have trouble holding his head upright. The rest of the characters seem to have to crane their head sideways or stoop down, like they're trying to stay on-camera with a unit operated by a cameraman with Parkinson's Disease.

Good drawing and coloring skills, semi-competent layout ability, but overall standard furry gaytopian fodder that seems destined for ASB-ness.

Indeed, this comic is fabulouth. I gave it a few click attempts, but the storyline is crap, the drawing, while nice, is still meh, and the whole 'hey-hey, no-no, this bagina has got to go' underpining is fairly transparent.

I'm not sure what the significance of the title is, either. I figure either "Carpe Peena" would be better or "Buff Guys with Broken Necks Pumping Iron and Engaging in Pseudo-Manly Banter While Hiding Slightly Off-Camera."

I came across this one some months back, and gave up reading after a few pages. This is the kind of comic that isn't horrible enough to be entertaining in the WTF? way, but doesn't have enough positive qualities to make it worth reading either.

There is an incredible number of webcomics like that. :(

Meh. I notice that he is apparently listed on that "The Nice" dropdown that I see on a lot of web comics these days. Originally, I figured that was some sort of listing where THE BIG SHOT web cartoonists all get together and pick TEH BESTEST WEB COMICS EVAR. But then I actually clicked on it and realized, oh wait, they all sucks. So I can only assume that it's some sort of circle jerk thing. Much too lazy to do anymore beyond asking here, though, if anyone has any clue what that's supposed to be.

Tired of seeing crappy, low quality comics online? Yearning for something new, something fresh, and yet something established? Confident you can whip any comic artist online today? Then have we got an offer for you...

Come one, come all, and buy a copy of Will Eisner's "Sequential Art!" Each page is packed with information and examples of how to make comics far more dynamic. Learn from one of the grand masters of comics, Will Eisner, and see how he does his work!

Also recommended are "Understanding Comics" and "Reinventing Comics" by Scott McCloud! A look at both the rich history and visual styles of comics in both print media and digital media!

(Sorry for the kitschy advertisement, but I think that if comics are so bad, why not try and fix the problem ourselves? If we could put our heads together and come up with something truly remarkable, we could give fellahs like these a run for their money! Just a thought of course.)

Yeah, I think thats basically correct. Its mostly furries, but I dont think its all furries. Its run through purrsia (which for a long time I was confusing with another purrsia around furry fandom). Purrsia just offers hosting it seems, and the nice is just a club for select cartoonists. Some of them do seem good, but I just don't really have much time to read through webcomics.

Why someone would waste their skills and time on doing something like this is beyond me.
