I noticed a spate of people linking from the Wikipedia article on Furry, which lists CYD in the External Links as "Criticism of the furry fandom". It's a pretty good article, but the real fun is in its talk page:

I personally think Wikipedia is the only truly neutral article on furries on the Internet. I added the link to Crush, Yiff, Destroy! because it does attempt to be a factual resource, albeit a very POV one; however, the rest of the sites are themselves POV from the other direction. I think that adding CYD makes the article more NPOV*?right now, we have four pro-furry sites and one critical site. At the very least, I think that shii's essay should be re-added.

And of course:

Crush Yiff Destroy is a website notorious for spreading misinformation and calumny about furry fandom. Using them as a resource is dubious at best.

OMG SLANDER

Most all of the Mark Merlino article on Crush Yiff Destroy is both bullshit and slander. I can't imagine how it could even be cited as a real source of information

I suggest not using "Crush Yiff Destroy" as a source of actual information as it is just a slander board that never turns down a good nasty story

Regarding CYD: it was founded by people who have a very personal grudge against certain persons in the fandom, and the site is heavily used to advance those grudges. For example, CYD attacks artist Mitchell Beiro for his faux marriage to Minerva Mink at one ConFurence.

CYD treats the entire event as though it had been deadly serious.

What they're really saying is "OMG! Don't fursecuit us by refusing to allow us a monopoly on information! Only our lies are teh true!!!" It's really amazing that a fandom who's freaks are loud, proud, and running the show, refuses to hide its blemishes...but doesn't want non furries discusssing them either. That being the case, I really have to wonder if George Bush is actually a furry. =)

These people need to know the difference between slander and libel goddammit.

Slander: An oral statement that is injurious to a person's reputation.

Libel: A written statement that is injurious to a person's reputation.

So any malicious articles here would be classified as libel, not slander.

its definately something that should be "just the facts, ma'am"

But then judging by the talk thread, I'm fairly confident that the people at Wiki are serious and have enough sense not to go too far either way. Its definatly a valueble resource (wiki) that should contaminated with individual politics and opinions ... If there is that much debate it should be made shorter and more vague.

Slander. Libel. Really. unci's on his 'we don't need to talk about sexuality' kick, which is admirable but rather blind considering this is an encyclopedia entry about a culture that's half fetish.

I agree with unci and don't see a need to focus on sexuality; lots of furry fans are into geocaching and urban exploration, too, but that doesn't mean they need their own sections as well. Furry fandom is about anthropomorphic animals; an accurate article should focus on that.

If half the fandom wasn't about anthropomorphic animals having sex, neither CYD nor VCL nor Tapestries would exist. 'Nuff said.

Actually, we have been very diligent in ensuring this article remains NPOV. I think it's no secret that this article has been targeted for vandalism by groups like Crush Yiff Destroy, Something Awful, and Eat All Furries, who no doubt would like to see such the sort of "facts" you've provided incorporated into this article. Your POV assertation that there are a "disturbingly large number" of weirdos/crazies visible in furry fandom wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that those sites deliberately seek them out, would it?

Extra fun derives from the fact that Eat All Furries of course is dead and gone and has been for months.

I find it highly ironic that Mr. Squeakypony is criticizing Krishva for feeling that the high visibility of weirdos is relavent to mention about the furry fandom. This coming from a man who buggers pool toys and whose fursona is an inflatable rubber unicorn.

Anyway, I can see, in some ways where Xydexx is coming from. I seriously wish the article didn't have to include the sexual side of the fandom, but in order to give a true "big picture" overview of the fandom it has to. There are maybe four real aspects of the fandom that don't get over powered by something else. Art, fursuiting, role playing, and the sexuality. And you can make a real argument that the two overriding themes in the furry fandom is anthropomorphics and sexuality.

Furries wanting their cake an eating it too with their own definition? Furries can either have a truthful entry or one that looks good, but both are not possible, even with the spin doctors available to the fandom.
