A furry parody web comic!!

No, wait, hear me out!

You all know the standard furry web comic - handsome (ok, slim) young anthropomorphic teenagers are all thoughtful and understanding and open and yiff all the fucking time with other handsome anthropomorphic teenagers and the humans/mundanes are either non-existing or st000pid - and the humour is of course all shit.

How about a webcomic that depicts furries the way they really are - only drawn in the standard furry style (pseudo-anime/WB-rip off). All the whining, back licking, pettiness, copyright-hysteria, bad body odour, mental instability, obesity and loneliness laid out in comic strip format!

Let me give you an example (actually, my only example):

START:

1. A darkened room, standard teenager bedroom - gloomy. Figure on sitting on the floor next to bed. Background music - low, only notes.

2. Zooming in on figure - standard 'depressed scrawny furry goth teenager sitting on floor' pose in front of the bed, nightstand to her right, burning black candle (the only light source in the room next to the moonshine entering from the left - through Venetian blinds, gotta have the Venetian blinds!), alarm clock radio/clock and Telephone on nightstand, left arm outstretched, pointy object in right hand. Lyrics shown next to notes identify the music playing in the background as a NIN song (the gayest, most 'cutting' song).

3. Zooms in on the face in profile, tear rolling down chin, overall sorrow.
Background music w/lyrics flows over the panel

4. Zooms in on torso. Left arm still outstretched, covered with superficial scars. Pointy object in right hand can now be identified as an x-acto-like knife. Knife-edge rests on left over-arm
Background music w/lyrics flows over the panel

5. Same as previous panel, only a cutting motion is made with the knife. cut only in topmost layer of skin (not deep), show a few drops of blood with the motion.

6. Cut back to face in profile. Expression a mixture of pain and ecstasy (think suppressed orgasm while buttfucked)

7. Zoom out to previous overview (2.) Blood drips into a little puddle on the floor. Her eyes have focused on the drops. Phone starts ringing. Music still playing (w. lyrics)

8. She has picked up the phone (w. right hand). Left arm still outstretched, eyes still focus on the blood drops. Setting same as (7.) Music still playing
HER:"yes.."
VOICE IN PHONE: "OMG DID YOU KNOW THAT PATRICIA TOTALLY SAW TOM MAKING OUT WITH AMANDA EVEN THOUGH HE TOLD SARAH THAT HE WAS TOTALLY NOT INTRESTED IN AMANDA AND LIKE, ONLY LOVED HER!!!!"

9. Setting same, but furry girl now TOTALLY HAPPY KAWAII! (standard 'kawaii-nuku-nuku-fox-girl-pink-happyhappy-armageddon"-pose) Radiating "joy-beams" lights up her surroundings. Arm still bleeding - puddle slightly bigger than last panel. No music.
HER:"OHMYGOD DIDN'T TOM LIKE GIVE SARAH A AND TOLD EVERYBODY THEY WERE GOING STEADY AND SAID THAT HE WOULD LIKE, KICK JAMAAL'S BUTT IF HE ONLY LOOKED AT SARAH AND NOW HE IS LIKE, MAKING OUT WITH HIS GIRLFRIEND!!!
GIRL ON PHONE:"JAMAAL AND SARAH? THAT IS LIKE, SO LAST WEEK! DON'T YOU REMEMBER WHEN JAMAAL GOT SICK IN FRONT OF EVERYBODY OVER AT GARY'S PLACE AT THE PARTY ON FRIDAY? TOTALLY ICKY! SHE WAS LIKE, NO WAY WAS SHE GONNA STICK WITH HIM AFTER THAT! DO YOU KNOW WHO FOLLOWED HER HOME INSTEAD??..

10. Furry girl?s leg outstretched, her left index finger is doodling in the puddle of blood, and her face has an expression of excitement as she is listening to her friend's gossip. Making "mmmhuh" "aaaha" and similar guttural sounds during the conversation (multi-level(?) speech bubble). Room lighter than 1-8.
GIRL ON PHONE

11. Legs drawn up, left arm clutching calves/knees (you'll figure it out). Happy face, mouth slightly open.
girl on phone...AND THAT'S WHEN MICHAEL TOLD ERIC THAT HE COULD SO DRINK MORE THAN PHILLIP. YEAH, AS IF! ...BUT LISTEN HON, MOM IS YAPPING ABOUT DINNER AGAIN, TELLING ME THAT IF I DON'T GET DOWN SHE'LL FEED IT TO THE DOG. LIKE HE WOULD EAT THAT NASTY GOO! SHE IS SUCH A BICH, BOSSING ME AROUND LIKE I WAS A CHILD!!!
FURRYGIRLYEAH, JUST LIKE MINE! ALWAYS NAGGING ABOUT MY GRADE, HAVNING NO RESPECT FOR MY BELIFES
phonegirlOH I KNOW! BUT, GOTTA GO, THE WICKED WHITCH IS WAITING. "NUZZLES!"
FURRYGIRLHUGGELZ!!

12. Puts the receiver back. Legs now in same position as in panel (2.) Still cheery. Content expression on face. Room still bright

13. Cut mood back to panel 2. Furry girl depressed, tears rolling. x-acto knife resting on left arm again. Music playing. Lyrics continue as if nothing had happened.

THE END.

Well. That was a big steaming pile of shit! It was much better before I got it down on paper. Worst of all, some wanker might actually think that is a thoughtful comment on how the doubleness of leading a furry life will cause mood swings.

Now, back to my comic Idea. As you can clearly see - I can't write for shit and I'm chronically unfunny. Luckily, there are people in these forums (incl. poe) that are both funny and can write and draw. However, I do not think this should be a standard web comic done by one guy. Instead we could have a circle jerk community of writers and artists that could put together ideas (or more precisely, argue why their idea is the dogs bollocks and everybody else?s smell like poop). Someone could submit a script, someone could sketch said script. Everybody else calls them homogay fagqueers. Once the flames die down, the comic is put up on CYD. Furries find said comic. Goes into hysterical fits, threaten suicide in Livejournal, hilarity ensures.

right!....

Ok, I'm done - going home now.
Can somebody please call me a fag? It's been 6 months since last time I curled up on the bathroom floor crying because of an insult on a message board.

well, at least I didn't post this on poe

Fag!

Ha ha, I kid. Actually, I rather think that sounds like fun. I'm not the world's funniest guy but I can draw a little and I wouldn't mind being involved in something like this. I haven't circlejerked nearly enough lately.

It's bad enough that I have to remember to use bbcode instead of html, but how the hell am I supposed to exercise my gay without proper strikethrought?? Please enable this feature OR I'LL CUT MYSELF!!!11

Also, I noticed that standard ascii smilies are converted into phpBB emoticons, and I wondered if it would be possible to include this conversion - you know, for the otaku kitsune fagbeasts!

Actually I've been thinking about something simuliar but it needs a lead character, and I don't know all the freakish parts of furrydumb.

^_^ wonder if it could be based on some real life known furry morons :)

Now that I think of it that territory's been successfully mined before, not just by Genghis' comic, but also by Mitch in "Tired 'n' Cynical." And Not Sabrina Online was a sort of proto furry-mocking circle jerk. So I don't see any reason why something like this wouldn't work.

No reason it can't be based on real life morons, as long as we tweak it just enough to keep that one furry with the "Intellectual Property for Dummies" book from screaming "OMG RIGHT OF PUBLICITY MY MAILMANS BROTHER IS A LAWYER AND HE SAID YOUR BRAKING THE LAW!!!11!!"
And to adequately showcase the full extent of furry insanity, you'd need a cast of dozens. At the very least. You've got angsty-goths, fanboys, porn hounds, the KAWAII-chibi set, the big pants artists, the hippy dips, the absolutely insane Keisterbeast sort, etc.

Exactly who counts as a big name furry moron? We talk about Schwartz and Keister here a lot but there are many others, right? I just can't think of their names right now.

Not necessarily a bad idea.

However, supposing someone would get to it - what would the characters exactly look like? Sure, the drawing style itself is clear, but I'm talking about how the characters are presented.

Would "fat and ugly" be a bit too underlining? Or maybe along the lines "jolly fat gummi bears"? Or just the ordinary VCL bulk "pretty albino wolfdog chick with really baggy pants and lots of piercings in her big cute ears" style?

Also, should the characters be more based on actual furries, or be more like exaggerations of a single stereotypical furry aspect?

Also ALSO, inevitable confrontations with h00mans, drawn as... well, humans.

"Ow! MOM, you're stepping on my tail!"
"Well, now that you've brought the subject up, exactly why do you insist on walking around with that fake fox tail stuck to your hind, young man?"
"...grumblestupid hyoomansgrumble..."
"What?"
"OH FOR YIFF'S SAKE, MOM, STOP FURSECUTING ME! WAAAAAHH!" *runs to his room*
"...what?"

Nope.

The typical furry reaction of "They're laughing at this picture! I'll take it off the internet, that'll show 'em!" was in full effect with this picture. However, so was the furry behaviour of "I have 500000000000 different online art archive accounts, each of which contain every single picture!". Finding one she forgot to delete was child's play.

And yes, I made a local copy in case this one gets yanked too.

I'm more interested in one-shots, not long windy thing with "character profiles" and the like. Maybe reuse some characters if they prove to be useful, but not the standard keenspace faggery.

That way anybody can do their take on a chosen part of furrydumb (e.g. juggalos) without having to stick to some shabby story line.

Think Bizarro, the Far Side, Quinto, and Kaz' Underworld. Only with furries.

Oh, and why not have both humans and furries intermixed - again think European/old Disney "funny animals" comics. For God's sake - you have read Carl Barks, haven't you!?

Or, if you haven't (shame on you!) - imagine a world where furries actually have the *general physical* attributes of their "totem animal" (fur, tails etc.) - but they are still lazy, fat, stupid, foul-smelling etc.
See where I'm getting at?

That's probably best, if we're going to make this into a proper circle jerk. If there's going to be a regular rotation of both artists and writers, then long drawn out plots with regular characters will just bog things down and constrict us.

I think it would be good if the characters were drawn in stereotypical VCL wish-fulfillment style, but they all had really fat shadows.

It's MILDLY funny, so at least it's a start. However, to ensure success, teh ghey on the part of it's creators and contributors must be kept to a minimum. Circle jerks usually turn out controllable in the Portal Of Evil/Ecchi-Attack crowd, but when we're handling furries it is of importance that we be careful not to catch the various creative diseases that have sapped the furry world of all capability to provide effective, intentional humor.

Such as...? I think there's just as much intentional humor in the furry world as there is outside - remarkably little.

Right, but I'm basically saying that if we were to implement the aforementioned idea, then we would have to avoid making it sound like one of those godawful furry in-jokes.

Seanbaby could do it, but I hear he's busy. Something about chilling with Shigeru Miyamoto and generally not sucking.

Humor should be inspired, not forced. Finding someone familier with furries, who hasn't succumbed to the soul crushing lameness and has the talent to pull it all together, is a tall order. You still might find some of the talented people on PoE willing to contribute, if they aren't burned out on furry yet.

You'd want to get equal representation of course too..

..this means not only zoophiles, macros, fursuiters, babyfurs, plushiphiles, etc etc etc.. but the occasional newbie to the fandom realizing what hes gotten himself into, the rare artist who tries drawing non 'yiffy' art and finding that it doesnt sell, and so on.

I really like the idea of drawing their furry selfs as they'd appear in real life too, perhaps take it one step further and make those furs in the toon wish they were human? (Mansuiters, heh ;p)

I think this sounds like a good idea, actually. It would be something interesting to write up a few ideas for, I could brainstorm for hours about some of the oddities I've witnessed. But I'm not too experienced in the artwork side of things.

I've been around the fandom for a few years now, socialized with the locals a bit, avoided the cons.. I'm no oldschooler, but I'm experienced enough with the going on's.

I'm currently working on a Parody version of the "How to Draw anime" books with the furry fandom in mind.

I thought it funny as hell, and the anthro and comic artists who are contributing think so too.

Bascially, we're going to make a book that SEEMS like its a big help, but insert every single Furry stereotype innit, with wonderous results.

Devote the chapters to stuff that WOULD be helpful to the beginning artist,
then insert evcery batshit Fuckydoo furry fetish in the pages.

I think it'll sell well.

Why not poke fun at furrydumb by turning the tables on them? A bunch of anthros with a human fetish, you could call them 'pinkies'. Or not. It amused me anyway.

The psychopathic NO-YIFF artists, who push for a jihad every other second. (I call them "Born-agains", as most failed to get into the most popular furry-fandom cliques, and so turned the other way.) Their mental unstablity makes them as much to be avoided as any yiffy wolfie/foxie wannabe gayboi...

The 'Good and Pure' artists who take criminal advantage of their fans. "Oh Woe Is Me! My computer is about to die, and now I won't be able to login to FurryMUCK, or scan my latest art portfolio so I can upload it..." "Never Fear, my Lady! I have a decked-out P4 that I can loan to you for two months." "I LUURVE YOU!!! Here's a two-minute sketch to show my appreiciation!" "Uh, can I get my $3000 computer back?" "<posted to public forums> I'm being stalked by a psycho fan! Bomb his email! Spam his IM! Rise! My Gestapo! Drive him out of the fandom for me, because he's harrassing me for Trying To Make The Fandom Better!!!" "<muttering> Maybe if you hadn't drunk all your ex-husband's child-support cheques, maybe you could've paid for the computer's repairs yourself..."

No, sorry, I'm just both poor and easily guilted, so I'm withdrawing from this. I'm sure there are plenty of other people without my sissypants guilt center who'll take up your offer, though.

oh well,

I think I'm sorry to hear that. People don't ask you why they pass? Probably because nobody likes spending money. And, uh, yes, getting a job would probably be more profitable than doing commissions. Life's a bitch.

Recently there seems to be a spate of artists throw tantrums because of kids copying their work and taking everything down, while I sympathise I do thinks it's a little extreme :P

Recently?

I don't-- the artists involved are barely more creative than the kids who copied their work..
Oh sure, Miss Princess Artisteest might have 733T Photoshop skills, but can you really take them seriously when they're doing nothing better than drawing their+cliques' fursonas in SEXAY candy-raver clothes over and over a thousand times?

I never said they were talented, though I suspect you know the artists I'm talking about, I just said that there seems to be an upsurge in people yanking 'art' for copying :P

The last I won't fault you on --- 90% of all webcomics have shit humor.

The rest --- what "standard" furry web comics are you referring to? The closest I know of --- and I read a LOT of 'em, via THE resource for furry webcomics, The Belfry (http://www.belfry.com/comics/) --- would be "The Class Menagerie", which never goes beyond a PG rating (hence no yiffing, unless you want to categorize various innuendoes and the rare kiss as sex).

I might add that if you surf through the various non-furry webcomics available online, you find that your description DOES closely match a godawful lot of webcomics out there in terms of sexually-active slim teenagers getting it on, and that most of these comics are manga-derived (yaoi, bishounen, Sailor Moon ripoffs, etc).

I don't doubt that somewhere, there's a furry webcomic matching what you're talking about --- but it ain't the "standard", and it ain't unusual for the Internet, either.

Why not poke fun at furrydumb by turning the tables on them? A bunch of anthros with a human fetish, you could call them 'pinkies'. Or not. It amused me anyway.

Furries themselves beatcha to it years ago. The joke revolved around "Smoothies", who were depicted (by Jack Cavanaugh, no less) as being either terribly overweight lust-driven freaks or skinny angry angsty types.

It was a t-shirt that sold fairly well. -:D

...but of course is little different, in being fantasy-type characters having wonderful social lives, etc., etc., and commiting the crime of being Yet Another unbelieveable 'slice of life' comic. ("The First Law of Webcomics: Only create characters who will be popular, females being manditory, and throw away anything 'real' that could've produced a better narrative.")

Sheesh, in an Australian Uni dormitories/colleges, people would be playing "Sit on my Face and Tell Me that you Love Me" 24/7 the entire year, and severe emotional underdevelopment in both genders would be rife...

(I heartily recommend reading "He Died With A Falafel In His Hand", by John Birmingham (ISBN 1875989 218), for a far more dramatic, horrific, and funny recollection of what Uni life is like...)

Calbeck, just out of morbid curiosity, is there any comic that's listed on the Belfry that doesn't suck? Because from what I've seen that seems to be a requirement for getting on there.

It's pretty much a foregone conclusion that a web comic's going to blow if the main character:

a) is a fox
b)is a kitsune
c)is ever described as " a laid-back kinda guy who's popular with his friends despite his corny jokes"
d) has his favorite anime listed in his vital stats on the cast page

didnt feel like loggin in

yeah theres good comics on belfry! you forget that it lists practically all webcomics , not just furry

while alot of them DO suck
theres PLENTY that DONT

this is a pretty schizophrenic list of stuff i read

beepo and roadkill, which is actually Deep Fried Weekly now
www.whatisdeepfried.com
is probably my favorite of them all, these strips also appear in print occassionally (thats how i found it).
in fact jasons whole site is great i really recommend it

as far as actually furry comics go i like miguel estrugo's
www.AliceOtter.com
and also his other project that hes working on with Tom Ziolkowski: webcomicstar
www.aliceotter.com/webcomicstar/

this is that guy that was trying to get coz/effect made into a cartoon:
you normally cant get to this comic from the site unless you have the link:
http://www.squirrelworks.com/zones/boxerstudios/battlegate/1.0/p-01.html
Battlegate - his art is really good (IMO), i havent had the time to actually read much of it. (or Coz/Effect)

Mousekaroos
http://www.mousekaroos.com
not actually furry as far as being FOR furries
good cartoon, its kinda slow paced sometimes, mostly dialog "talking heads", but i think its kind of interesting/weird

http://www.platosrepublic.com/
http://www.ozyandmillie.org/

also bear in mind that ANY comic with a talking animal character is labeled "furry" almost all the time @ belfry

(off the top of my head: plato's republic, and almost inexplicably - beepo & roadkill)

submit some good comics to them, they will put them up there

i submitted several that are on there now , and i noticed the site's hit counters went up considerably from doing so

i guess im just saying that "furry" or not, just cuz the belfry is run by furries, it is a legitimatly good resource for finding webcomics and even sites of print comic books

Given that the Belfry lists just about any comic it finds out about --- including mainstream non-furry material, raging from "Get Fuzzy" to "Sluggy Freelance" to "Rose is Rose" --- uh, YEAH, I think you SHOULD be able to find something non-sucky.

It's pretty much a foregone conclusion that a web comic's going to blow if the main character:

a) is a fox
b)is a kitsune
c)is ever described as " a laid-back kinda guy who's popular with his friends despite his corny jokes"

I'd give you the last two as absolutes, just because they indicate the cartoonist is a lousy writer. -:)

The first two...well, I've never seen a GOOD kitsune-as-main-character webcomic yet. But I've seen a couple of well-done ones involving foxes: "Faux Paw" is by the Carspeckens, who are known for keeping their humor clean and their art is of good quality. It's rather middle-of-the-road, though, being the kind of thing you might read in a newspaper, so I haven't checked up on it in a long time.

"Mynarski Forest" has much more tongue-in-cheek, borderline evil humor, but the art style (while colorful) is extremely busy. And the main character there's a fox. So there ya go.

Actually we made a furry artist parody in one of my electronica project's music videos. I dressed myself up looking supposedly like a mid 70's bulgarian pimp would look like with a tweed suit jacket, a silly hat, and hitleresque mustache. The "artist" Ramon Papinski was in a pub sipping disgustingly cheap red wine and drawing macrofurry porn. After that trying to enter a night club and getting pushed away by a bouncer et cetera.
