So I found this page in the referrer logs: WolfCountry, a site about wolves and lycanthropy - but which is NOT furry, as one can plainly tell from their FAQ page:

2.1 YOU SAID THAT THIS IS NOT A FURRY SITE AND I SEE LOTS OF FURRY INFO HERE!

1. WolfCountry do not condone, nor promote or glorify the Furry "yiffer" lifestyle
That's right, I do not hate Furries but I do not like at all the "yiffer" lifestyle. This means that I do not encourage, promote or practice their activities, and if you're clueless about what they do, here are some examples of what a "yiffer" does:

- Spend all the day in chats, mucks or BBS asking silly questions like: "Must a wolf furry eat a bunny furry in real life?" or "How many breasts must have a furry she-wolf?"
- Use ugly fake fur costumes made by mom and pretending they are real werewolves or "stud" cartoon characters.
- Use fake tails that hangs in the butt that moves with batteries and showoff them in public.
- Go to conventions called "furcons" to buy expensive and horrible articles... żOr do you think that a picture of a horse-man with breasts and penis is beautiful for your living room?
- To have several "stud" messenger friends to imagine an orgy and if it can be for real, much better.
- Say all the day that "I'm an animal trapped in a human body and/or I hate humans" until mom calls them for dinner or they need to turn off the computer.
- To draw and/or share yiff pictures (Anthropomorphic pornography) which are zoophile versions of gay pornography.

And more in the same vein :)

This guy probably chooses the Druid every time he plays Diablo II, despite the fact that the Druid is the shittiest character.

He's a "were". As I once was and how I discovered the furry fandom.

Weres are in the same vein as furries but just slightly different and closer to "vamps". Weres typically have totems (often self-proclaimed) and have deep affiliations with their totems. They tend to look for a lot of into on actual were-creatues and therianthropy in hopes that they actually exist. They tend to focus on dreams and "spiritual shifting". For them, being a were is a spiritual thing. A lot of weres are otherkin.

Some weres create art of therianthropes and in doing so discover the furry fandom. Although a lot of weres don't consider themselves to be furry because either a) they don't feel a kinship with "furries" or b) they somehow consider themselves to be less pathetic than furry fantards. A good example of a were would be Coyote Osborne from the TLC "Animal Imitators" special.

Frankly, I think weres are just furries in denial.

Doubly entertaining if you imagine the whole FAQ as being read by Paul Verhoeven (just watched Starship Troopers with commentary last night; I think I'm in love).

A werewolf wannabe who blames the ills of the fandom on 'yiffers' is almost as sad as a typical furry blaming it on 'the small minority of furverts'.

I find the two most common types of weres think of themselves as either neo-pagan (and I'm not a christian, so I don't use that term lightly) wolves or your run of the mill 'I'm a dragon'. The former is as sad as a furry in terms of social habits, the later is usually more sexually fucked up than even the worst run-of-the-mill furry.

If you ask me, weres are even crazier, and a whole lot sadder. I mean, there's furries I'm good friends with and some I can tolerate, but the instant I hear anyone say "Hey guess what did you know I am a wolf ok?" An unstoppable torrent of laughter escapes my face with the intensity of some sort of clown-nova.

You don't get much more desperate than that.

You know, ingrown hair can drive you crazy. Might want to see a doctor about that, they've got special shampoos for it now. Course, that's require showers, but that's ok. The burning means its working.

When he changes it in a month from now, your comments will make no sense...

Did you make that yourself, Rankin? I've seen the original, but who edited it into a furry?

Isn't your totem, like, assigned to you?

Nobody wants the Dung Beetle. Well, almost nobody.

..and I don't remember who did the image manipulator re: avatar. I found it, figured it would be annoying as fuck, so I set it as my avatar after the 1608 post.. which was closed too soon, before I could explain what the while thread was.

..now I'll have to wait for 2010, or just die off :(

Tell that to the 618,593 weres who happen to be wolves. In the were community you aren't assigned a totem, "you just feel it" meaning "wolves are cool so my totem must be a wolf".

Now you bring this up, I think I'll assign you a totem. From hence forth your totem shall be the earwig. Now you must draw lots of pictures of earwigs (with lots of lewd ones) and come the next furry con, be sure to have Marci McAdam draw you a con badge of your earwig fursona.

Of course! The year English poet John Milton was born! Ha-haa, it all makes sense now...

Yes, for not being able to choose species, it seems most weres are large predatory animals. I think second only to wolves is the massive amounts of dragons. At least I can sorta get (after some acid maybe) being an animal that exists. Third would be cats of somesort.

I have yet to hear anyone say 'Yes, I'm a weregoldfish'.

Oh, and score irony points for being a wolfie.

Well originally, the only weres WERE wolves, as far as the legends go. Then there are kitsune foxes from japan and assorted other shapeshifting types, but wolves really had the market cornered from the get-go.

I'm not into the notion of having totems assigned or felt...if you want to spiritually manifest any principle or archetype, go ahead. But there are standards that each 'totem' has.

Example: wolves. predatory, strong-willed, fierce, meat eaters, pack animals. This means that TRUE wolf types would be interested in hunting, or at least proficient in combat arts. They should be in good shape, and enjoy talking and interacting with others. THey also have to be non-vegetarians and actually have determination to suck it up when things get rough. As of this post about 20% of the wolves in fandom fit that description.

Interestingly, the otherkin response to lack of social skills is that "they dont understand be because I have a wolf soul!"...pardon? seems as if canines have a history of interacting well with humans, and each other. If you're a shy, socially inept tard, maybe you aren't worthy of the wolf totem yet. Ya think?

NOTE: Bonus points to the were-fox white boys who have 10-syllable japanese fan names, and will go out of their way to correct you when you mispronounce them. Extra bonus if they have a cheap katana from a swapmeet they claim they can use.

I know this bloke who got totally burned out on the whole furry aspect, but still wanted to be there to chat with friends he made. He recreated himself as a goldfish in a Tonka truck. It was the most awesome description I ever saw.

...then he changed it to be a human, and never saved it. Shithead.
