Hi guys,

Just dropping a line on a few things. Firstly, I won't be doing that big research project. Some other things have come up which have taken my time (Hence, why I haven't posted here so much). I still would like to do something in the future on the topic. Oh well, never too late to begin. Give it time and I'll start when I have a few spare weeks.

However, I wanted to mention something else... Something on the state of CYD. I like this place. I like the articles. Especially New Meat. His stuff is funny-ass shit. And even when he posts his one-line responses in the forums, he says more than anyone could by writing out an essay-sized post (and he's funnier too).

However, lately I've noticed a few tensions. Quite a number of threads being locked. That sort of thing. Now, it's not up to me how the moderators run the forum. This is Mitch's website and he can run it any way he wants too. I respect him for giving the world such a funny site. It truly is awesome. I'm glad Mitch started this site in the first place. And I hope he keeps running it the way he wants.

Recently, there was that Shawn Keller animation DRAHMA in the News forum (Yeah, moderators, set your phasers to LOCK cause I'm talking about that -- but at least hear me out). I missed my chance to talk in the three threads that were started, so I just want to put forth some comments here. Nothing overly specific about the animation, but more a general hope for some calm in the forums.

I haven't seen the animation, and I probably won't mainly because the general vibe I get is that it's not worth the download (and I'm on dial-up so it takes fucking ages to get 6 megs). However, that's not so much a comment on Shawn. Shawn, if you are reading this, don't take the CYD frontpage commentary to heart. You have done some very funny stuff. Every now and then I read your "Horrifying Look at Furries" again, which to me it one of the greatest jewels of satire on furry insanity. I love it with allof my black little heart. But in regards to your latest animation and the comments it has gathered, you can't win 'em all, buddy. You tried and it might not have gotten the response you were hoping. No matter. Just try again. We still dig your stuff. Keep on truckin'.

Was Mitch entitled to put a negative review on his webpage. Hell yes. Of course he is. It's his webpage. He can put anything he likes on there. And we forum dwellers can shout, "Oh Mitch, that was mean!" until we're blue in the face. But it's still his opinion. Keep in mind this: I doubt Mitch now hates Keller after just one animation he didn't like. Quite the contrary, he's saying "You can do better, man. I know you can." And from the sounds of Mitch's comments, he's pretty much given some decent reasons why he didn't like it. It really is just some encouragement. You can't be too sensitive to criticism. Just understand what some people say and carry on. Learn. Evolve. Create. Become enlighened. Retire to a mountain top where you can dish out sage advice. Then accend to heaven with wings made of sparkles and rainbows. IT LOOKS SORT OF LIKE THIS:

But these aren't as much comments directed at things relating to the Keller animation (though it sounds like it). Rather, I've noticed some minor animosity among some people in other threads. General flare-ups that have caused threads to get locked.

But what I'm trying to say is, I hope people can remember why this site exists in the first place. Re-read the 'About' section:

This site was originally created for our own amusement, to document the more outstandingly bizarre aspects of the furry fandom, and with no particular agenda or program in mind.

The part I especially like is the "no particular agenda or program in mind". The way I see it, people have some strange expectations of CYD. CYD isn't out to destroy the furry fandom... Shawn Keller doesn't acts as our shining white knight who fights evil by moonlight with his flash animations. There is no real animosity, though furries will claim there is. There is no Us vs Them mentality, though some people on the forum seem to think so. No, what we have here is just a website that shows how goddamn freaky a fandom can get. And at the same time, we all have a laugh...

Jesus, I'm starting to sound like this guy:

Back to my point: I don't like fighting, even though it is a very natural part of our nature, especially OUR INTARNET NATURE. But what I do like seeing is everyone having fun is a familiar place where we all feel... well... good, I guess. Comfortable. Where we're enjoying each other's posts and having fun together and at the same time becoming an enlightened entity on the topic of furry retardness. Then we can fly our rocketship to a moon of enternal tranquility where we are all buzzing like one heartbeat beating together WAIT THAT SOUNDS GAY I MEAN LIKE HARDCORE COOL PEOPLE WHO LAUGH AT RETARDS HYUCK HYUCK HYUCK.

Anyway, I wouldn't like to see minor bitchslaps ruin a website and forum with such great potential. I think we are on to a great thing here. Here we have a bunch of weirdos who purposely put their freakiness on the internet for the world to see. CYD is like going to the circus and throwing peanuts at the freak show. Only difference is lobster boy and the bearded woman have some kind of weird retarded sex fetish going on. And there are freak show art commissions. Oh boy, some of them really make me chortle like a manic dental patient on nitrous oxide. Ho ho ho.

To summerise, I just want to say I respect Mitch and the mods for the hard work they do in providing me with entertainment. Thanks guys, I'm laughing my balls off at your work. I also respect Keller for making me laugh so much. Thanks man, keep on doing what you're doing before I become a withered old spectacle of my former self and start an accounting degree to prove so. I also respect every one of you who has posted a link here directing me to some piece of furry weirdness -- thank you, now I know who I shouldn't accept delicious candy from when at the bus stop.

And to all you crazy furries, you're still a bunch of oddball freaks! I hope you stay that way so I can continue laughing my ass at you through such means as CYD, Keller, and anything else that pokes fun at youall for being a bunch of sick degenerates. Bravo!

That's what I was kinda hoping with this thread... Not so much the "STOP COMPLAINING STUPADS!" but more so, "Hey, guys why must we fight?"

In a way, I hope this thread helps us in a Breakfast Club-esque way. Like, we start out fighting, then we all smoke some pot and realise, "Hey, you guys are alright! LET'S BE FRIENDS AND DANCE IN THE LIBRARY TO 80s MUSIC!"

I agree. I think people should be forthright in their opinions and not hold back. What I'm trying to say is not that we should restrain ourselves but rather not to take things so seriously. After all, that seems the whole point of CYD in the first place. An enjoyable place where fun is made of those who take animals and animal-related paraphernalia way too seriously. A place where we can laugh our balls off at such overly-serious weirdos.

I see so much potential in CYD and its forums. I wouldn't want it to go to waste and I doubt any other user here would either.

Quite frankly, The Goof is right.

We LAUGH at the drama that the Furries are guaranteed to cause, yet we are just as guilty of causing our own drama for the furs to poke fun at.

Look, some loved it, some hated it. Some took it more seriously than intended.

Perhaps it was just a bad time for communication. I heard Mercury was in retrograde or something...

In any case, no, Goof's not asking for us to tone down. We just need to realize HEY, some people like stuff, some people don't, let's move on, shall we? If someone has enough of a bug up their behinds, why don't they write an opposing review?
