The FAF, already mentioned on an earlier post, has got a new forum. That's the link to one of their threads, where they comment some of the most disturbing things they've seen on British furmeets, small informal local meetings where British furs spend some time together.

Most of the answers to the original question (the thead goes off-topic pretty fast) mention bizarre sexual behaviors that happen on those very furmeets:

Those reading CYD's forums are already familiar with the "sex is the main drive behind furry fandom" theory, despite the affirmations of some naive, blind voices within the fandom that still claim the furry fandom is only and solely devoted to anthropomorpic animals and thus anything mixing humans and animals IS furry by nature.

When I read some of the replies on that thread, I couldn't avoid thinking about the subtler messages hidden behind those posts, about the little environment where it happens.

I couldn't avoid deducing that, in fact, some people go to those furmeets looking for sex, not to talk about funny animals and the stuff. The sentence "40 year olds who want some boy pussy" is really, really scary.

I couldn't avoid deducing that wearing a "fursuit" in one of those furmeets seems to be an invitation to be sexually assaulted, or raise the sexiness of the person wearing it by 7000%. Actually, "fursuits" as conceived by the furry fandom are eerie enough to be analyzed on a post I expect to upload on a few days.

And I'm surprised to see everything seems to be perceived as fairly normal and perfectly OK with the furry mentality on the UK. Nobody cares, or dares, to say, "That's just gross", or the more expressive "What the fuck are you doing, you moron!?". Perhaps that's what made some of those furs to split and create the FAF page I've mentioned at the beginning of this message.

Some time ago, I heard that some pubs on the United Kingdom banned furries, since they're incredibly annoying for the rest of the attendance and the staff. I can't tell if that's true or not, but, if I'm proved right, it would mean that furries are perceived in the UK as negatively as hooligans. Fat gay hooligans, in this case.

Well, that's not just the UK. That's pretty much the universal problem with furry, isn't it?

I'm surprised they don't have tons more horror stories from furry conventions, although it would probably get redundant after a while. All you have to do is go to a convention and see for yourself that most people are showing up to have sex with one another. A significant minority are just there to socialize, true, but even they know the rules of the game and don't go opening closed doors without knocking first.

Well...

Issue being there aren't furry conventions in the UK. The 'furmeets' are a few to a dozen self-declared furs meeting at a bar, a theater, or someone's house. There just aren't the numbers needed to produce true con-bullshit. You'd be totally visible there - and wearing a fursuit is a great way to kill your anonymity. Oh, and if you really fuck up... you can sneak into MFF or MFM, but the second you walk through the door of a bar, everyone sees you. Especially true at a private house, where the owner has full legal rights to kick people out.

Of course, it works both ways. You've got two major groups (London and North), and if you don't like what the leaders allow, you can take a hike. North UK seems particularly fucked up, which is where most of the FAF guys come from (if I read it correctly). Speak out strongly and you don't get invited to the next meet. And it's not like AC, where everyone knows when and were it'll be a year and a half in advance.

Well. So I gather. Hopefully someone will help me here.

Well, hello again. Sorry about the ammount of its taken for this to get posted, the first FAF meet was held on the Saturday and as been a roaring sucesses I think.

Anyways Rail is correct. These are no cons as such (though I do hear conventions for the UK are in the works) and are simply gatherings. Being a member of the NorthUKFurs I can quickly run you through what happnes there.

With no major cons here Furs in the UK attend their own "mini cons" so to speak, or meets. These are spread out across the country, 3 on the west of then Pennines (sp?) and 3 on the east, after 6 months the cycle starts over.

They are for the most part moderatly well planned, involving (time wasting) activities such as firstly gathering in a bar to "talk" then, dpeending almost enterly on the venue, going off to do somthing else, like see a movie, arcade etc. Populations vary wildly with Sheffild meets touching between 60 and 80 attendies while the Chester meet that was held on the 30th this month (the same day as the FAF meet) attracted a mere two furs.

What m_estrugo said though is also correct. There is a pub in the city of Leeds, now im not sure wich one EXACTLY it wsa but iv been led to belive it was a favrotie one of mine called "The Dry Dock" (or that was at least its nickname) It was a ship, plonked right in the middle of a roundabout, converted into a bar... or its at least a bar that looks like a boat... either way I liked the place. Now while I wasnt at this meet I have heard the reason they were thrown out was becuase there was pretty much a bondage ... "episode" going on in there involving, you guessed it... furs. I may be wrong but other FAF members will no doubt see this and fill in the gaps or correct mistakes.

Unfortunatly NUKF meets are RIFE with people who ONLY want sex and unfortunatly, no one will do anything about it. Hence why the FAF was formed. We all basically hate this and now have "invite only" meets. Now im not being patronising with the speech marks there. The meets are technically NOT invite only, but if you turn out be like those we are moving away from you will be asked to leave. So umm.. yeah thats it I guess.

P.S. The First FAF meet attracted 6 attendies, was orginally going to be around 9 or 10 but people had to drop out at the last moment. The meet involved gathering at a bar for food and drink in Manchester, followed by 3 hours of learning then playing poker and a then movie. Even with the low attendies, it was still more fun than regular meets and more sucessful than the Chester meet.

Edit: Id like to point out iv written what they are mostly SUPPOSED to be like, not how the actually happen... you know... so they cant complain.

Now if only US conventions would do the same. This is what the fandom should have been doing from the start. As dependant as furries generally are on peer acceptance, ostracizing the sex maniacs would probably help clean up a lot of the freaky behavior.
