In responce to TNM's post in the locked 'famous furries' thread...
You MET Rapid T. Rabbit? Details, please.

I have to tell the story. It's more of a badge of honor, I guess. I met a 'teh famouse' furry and didn't...you know, die. On the outside, anyways.
Anyways...it was my birthday, and one of my good online buddies works at Disneyland. So I went with my family and my best friend, and we decided to meet up with my online friend (Let's call him 'George') after his shift ended.
Well, anyways, we all met up and it was fine and dandy. We went on some rides...
And then George broke the news.
You see, He and I are members of a (not-really-furry-but-sorta-furry) messageboard, and one of the members is Rapid. And Rapid had been wanting to meet up with George, and he was in town, so he convinced George that they just HAAAD to meet up.
And guess what? It just so happened to be on this very same day! Happy Birthday to me!
Anyways, we met up in front of the Castle, where, the furry in question, upon sighting us, went absolutley crazy, and literally JUMPED into George's arms before he even knew who he was. He'd never even seen a photo of him or anything. It's like he had radar.
Thankfully, I kept in the background, introducing myself quietly. RTR and I had had contact on the message board in the past, but he seemed much more interested in talking to George and my father about his favorite carebears, his fursuitting gigs, ect.
So I stood there with my mom and my best friend (poor thing...she looked terrified), until I managed to pry my dad away from Rapid. By now, I wanted to get the hell out of there.
I almost felt bad. The dude had no teeth, and was dressed for warm weather. Sure, it was California, but it was Winter, and freezing cold.
So after refusing George's pleas to stay for 'Moral Support', I explained we had to use up our fast passes. Which was true.
And so then we abandoned George.
With one of the most famous furries in the world.
Alone.
At Disneyland.
At night.
The next time I saw George, the first words out of his mouth were "YOU LEFT ME WITH A GUY WHO TALKED ABOUT NOTHING BUT CAREBEARS!"
And I told him it served him right for making the arrangements in the first place...;)
Anyways, just an interesting story, I guess. I thought I'd share it with y'all.

The thought of meeting up with some oddball furry from the internet does not sound tempting.

Almost  ?

Ok, sooooo is he just one of the "vocal majority"( ) that makes the fandom look bad? Any notorious attrocities like stalking Tress Mcneil? I can't believe someone would arrange to meet this guy in person. He looks pathetic.

Is he around anymore? Or did he kill himself yet?

I met up with a furry from the internet. Only cuz he seemed like he was completely normal, smoked bud, liked cartoons/videogames, billiards. He was acctually cool, not a REAL furry though, name was Chris. It was a bit weird when i found out he was hiding the fact that he's gay from me for like 3 months. Probably cuz i use the word faggot like it's my middle name, even though i got nothing against em. After i found out he was gay he cut me off :?:

You know, I feel really sorry for this guy especially after reading that. What a sad life. His "popularity" probably exacerbates his inner loneliness. Judging from his overly exuberant reaction to your friend he seems almost desperate for real contact. Such self-loathing. It's not really amusing to me...just sad.

"His own TV show" is a public access show somewhere on the higher dial in New York city, I believe.

He hasn't done much besides that as far as I know. He appeared on the Daily Show once, and is kinda pathetic. But, really, isn't that enough?

Yes, his Public Access TV show which consists of puppets lipsyncing to Bon Jovi songs. He interviewed the Pawpet dudes once on it, I think. But hey, I'm not one to judge.
At dinner that night, my dad kept yakking about how much he loved RTR. He was all "It takes alot of guts to go out on the streets in a rabbit costume!" So yeah, that was weird.
I don't want to see Rapid porn by the way.
If I did, I don't think I'd ever blink again.

The adult in me thinks it would be distasteful to make some sort of reference to fellatio here.
But the kid in me is suicidal over what a fat bastard I'll become!

I REALLY have no desire to see RTR porn either, so no worries.

I used to think RTR did something notable or important for the fandom; I recall hearing and seeing his name a lot back in the late 90s, but I can't for the life of me remember what his supposed contribution or claim to fame was.

I think his 'claim to fame' was being a relativley photographed/documented furry. He was in a few magazines and print stuff (he recently made an appearance in the enquirer or something), television, and being tight with Carrol Spinney (Big Bird).

THE LAUGH, IT WILL HAUNT ME IN MY SLEEP.

And I got to hear it first-hand!

From the now abandoned PressedFur archive:
A Hare Piece
The Daily Show, September 21, 1999 (Video)
Rapid T. Rabbit might be the first ever Furry (though only a few people would know this was so, since the word was never once mentioned) to make it on a national news program. Unfortunately for him, it was the Daily Show. Known for its "freak-of-the-week" segments, Mr. Rabbit managed to score one for Furrydom's reputation by taking the rope the Daily Show gave him and hanging himself with it.

This segment is priceless for three reasons: His "no-friends" laugh, his strangely disturbing room of wall to wall plushies, and his accident on the "Willard Scott Morning Show," which, interestingly enough, was repeated for the Daily Show's "Moment of Zen" ending.

The links to the video don't work anymore, and it's a shame, because it was worthy to see. I saw it a few years ago, and what I remember is a somewhat pathetic attempt by Rapid T. Rabbit to be adopted by NY's Transport Authority as their mascot (and he got a rotund NO as an answer), some confessions by Rapid himself ("The biggest ilusion of my life was when I met Big Bird from Sesame Street - How old were you? 6? 7? - No, I was 17", and then a picture of him at that age and Big Bird appears on the screen), images of him wearing his fursuit waiting on the curb for a bus -that doesn't stop to pick him up-, and the "Willard Scott Morning Show" incident, that needs a paragraph apart.

The images on that sequence showed a lot of people, some of them on animal suits, standing in front of a popular landmark of Washington that I don't remember well. All of a sudden, Rapid appears on the right side of the image leaping and bouncing and moving towards the center of the screen, when he suddenly drops and rolls on the ground while the group of people on the background look startled and then laugh at him. As he explains on the interview, he twisted his ankle when he was bouncing, however, he was very proud of the experience.

This is how he gained his brief notoriety on furry fandom.

Rapid, for having to explain the whole concept of 'furry' to George
Or George for having to LEARN the concept of 'furry'.

You could keep that from ever happening by showing him the "Anna in Wonderland" or MTV's "Plushies and Furries" videos. After seeing those, he'd probably get a restraining order on rabbit boy.

Might be worth it to make sure he doesn't end up living in your basement.

OH NOES!!! FURSUITING IN PUBLIC IN JEOPARDY!!!

http://www.livejournal.com/users/rapidtrabbit/93934.html

There you go, my ability to continue as a freelance, free-spirit mascot/performer in my hometown is in serious jeopardy because I am not "with somebody" officially important, since I am now denied those important corporate connections in NY and elsewhere by someone who lives in Tom Ridge's home state.

Regardless of what anyone says, our American free and open society has been destroyed...FOREVER!
In that respect, the terrorists have already won. :(

He hangs out with a crew I used to here in the DC area. For them, actually get anything done is a fucking book tour worthy accomplishment. That fact that RTR (and the Funday people) has been doing something for so long (something like 20 years if I remember right) makes him the second coming of some furry Jesus or some shit.

He calls himself a "freelance mascot performer". And he puts it on his resume  . It's all about people renaming they're bizarre sexual hangups to give them an air of legitemacy. WolfJlupus should call himself a freelance dog semen extractor and storage recepticle. That will look good on his resume to taco bell.

Am I alone in thinking the fursuits look hilarious, especially when the wearer is in danger? Like when he 'snapped the tendon' in his knee. That HAD to hurt like a BITCH... but despite his agony, the rabbit he's dressed as keep right on smiling vacuously into the distance.

Priceless.

And on his CNN interview, Tom Ridge seemed to show some delight in our move towards such controlling concepts as a national identity card.

God forbid we keep the illegal Mexicans and terrorists out of America... other countries have a national ID and are doing just fine. Then again, that is a political discussion that is best reserved for >>ANOTHER THREAD<<.

It can become a terrible infringement on my civil liberties if I'm told that I cannot do something anymore because someone else can potentially imitate my activity for evil purposes.

For example, not only can I no longer wear a costume on an Amtrak train, I can't even *carry* one onboard due to stricter carry-on baggage limitations.

Fursuits. The newest fashion trend in suicide bombers. As far as I'm concerned, fursuits should be banned from all non-sports/school related displays. :<

There's national ID, and there's national ID with RFID. RTR might be arguing against it, which is good, but for exactly the wrong damn reason, which is just blissfully stupid. And though 'the terrorists have already won', his argument to why is just... whoo damn.

At least he causes more harm to himself than those around him. Oh, and those looking for his Daily Show appearance, Shawn Keller's awesome enough to host it here (with some other stuff in the F Files).

For example, not only can I no longer wear a costume on an Amtrak train, I can't even *carry* one onboard due to stricter carry-on baggage limitations.

Why would you want to in the first place? Might as well be wearing a Hawaiian shirt, an oversized camera and a large sign reading, "ROB ME! I'M A TOURIST!"

It's probably a good idea though...

And NO, it's not. National ID cards are teh suck.

Are they?

I'm used to national ID cards, and they're not a big problem at all, but a fast and nice way to identify myself oficcially. I've got a number myself, kinda like a car plate, and all the other official documents I've got, like passport, driving license, social security card or military card (!) have the same number. But those are useless without that ID card, that identifies me in any circumstance. It identifies me as a person, as an Spaniard and as an European, since it's the only document I need to travel from Lisbon to Helsinki.

If you want to open a bank account, the "DNI" as it's called in Spain is the only valid document. If you want to cancel a phone line, you've got to fax your DNI to the phone company. You want to buy your car, you've got to use your DNI. Every time my name appears on an official document, I appear like this: "Miguel Angel Estrugo Hernández, DNI Nº xxxx...". And I know that, as long as I don't write any number wrong (and that would be as stupid as writing my own phone number wrong), nobody will think I'm other than myself.

Of course, the document we have here in Spain is rather simple. It features my name, current address - that I've got to change if I move - and a picture, plus the magic number.

I honestly don't understand why so much paranoia about the national ID card. It's the best idea to identify oneself. :b

It seems that RTR only serves only to show how extremely idiotic some people in the furry fandom (and the US in general) can be, regardless of political views. But that's a whole another thread there, so.

National ID cards in and of themselves aren't necessarily a bad idea. Technically, my US Passport is a 'national ID' - any time I need to identify myself, I can present the passport. Because it's such a pain in the ass to get (requiring, in my case, no fewer than four official documents), it pretty much trumps any other form of ID I have.

National ID cards ARE a bad idea in the US, because our government is not exactly composed of the most technologically savvy people. Additionally, they've shown themselves to be incredibly untrustworthy as far as privacy and safe data retention are concerned. It's arguably non-partisan, as well; both sides seem to be equally clueless and equally unable to be trusted.

Getting this back on topic: RTR IS A STUPID FURRY. NUFF SAID.

One time someone threw something at me when I wasn't in costume

Despite the fact that this guy brings it on himself I can't help but feel a little bit bad for him. Not because he get's shit from people, but because he's so terminally clueless that he would mention something like that in a interview with out realizing how much more pathetic it makes him look.

Don't head down the pity path. I felt so awful for him I contacted him as a sort of "I feel sorry for you" thing. I figured he needed a friend. Oh my god, I'm going to get SO much shit for admitting this--but I actually talked to him on AIM once or twice.
He's terrifying. Really. For one thing he wants me to meet him and go carosel riding together. I can decline politely, liveablel. Cheering him on as he rides a rocking horse? Oh...kay...not so bad but a bit creepy. The fact that he knows I'm 17 to his 50 and keeps coming on to me?
WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG.

Oh, Lordy, I repent for my sins and beg forgiveness! I guess I was totally asking for it though. Flame away, seriously. Just...don't feel bad for him. He's creepy and probably gets horrid looks and reactions for more than just fursuiting.

I'd suggest taking cover in a convent, but even the power of christ may not be enough to ward off this evil. In all seriousness, that does not sound good at ALL. You didn't do anything like give him your address or real name or anything, did you? Cause if not, Block him and be done with it. If you did... well, pray for mercy because years of rejected libido are now erupting in your general direction.

I have a helper complex. He seemed so depressed and well, pathetic, my instinct was to cheer him up. Wasn't too hard to get his screen name. As it goes most of the time, though, I picked the wrong person to wanna cheer up. He got a bit scary.

To Captain Cowgirl: Quicktime.

let me just say that I will never be able to look at carousels ever, ever again. I thought they were creepy before, now they're just dirty and make me scream inside with fear.

Funny how furries have that effect on people.

"media player classic" with "quicktime alternative" codecs works nicely.

The Quicktime Alternative browser plugin doesn't seem to work too well with Firefox, unfortunately. I can't get the audio on YTMND pages to work. But now I am steering dangerously close to derailing the thread.

Again I voice my fascination with how furries are never content to have just one fetish. Being furry just isn't enough for some reason - you have to be into bondage or vore or... carousels. The common personality traits of furries makes it difficult to get laid as it is; why make it even harder on yourself?

Nothing much. His bitterness. His hatred of life. His thinly veiled disgust covered in sunshine and rainbows. Then, his "seduction". "Oh you need a job? I need a secretary. Wanna ride horsies sometime? I like it when a girl watches and cheers me on while I ride rockinghorses. I have one of my own, but no girl. Maybe you can cheer me on sometime. You're pretty. I'm lonely". Where, in this whole time, I am saying "Uh huh. Wow. Aww. You'll find her someday" and thinking "HOLY SHITFUCK MY PIC IS IN MY LJ I'M DEAD"

I can literally hear the guy on the far left saying "Hyuck." The three people on the far right could pass for normal if they found a new group of friends.

Also, is it just me, or does RTR kinda look like a circa WW2 caricature of Tojo?

The dude on the far right is as normal as they come, and the blonde is his GF. They're cool.
The guy on the far LEFT, however...

Well, he's pretty into the whole sex-with-cartoon-character thing, plus, he's borderline retarded.
One memory stands out.
My friend and I where in an AIM chatroom, when that dude came in, and, since he knows I draw, begins requesting toon porn.
Now, I'm not exactly a good artist, I just doodle, basically, but I kinda played along and asked him what of...
...
...
About 5 minutes later my friend and I find a few presents in our in-boxes.
They were nude pictures.
But they weren't of the cartoon character in question.
They were of the guy, himself.
It made me very, very sad. Incidentaly, this happened the night before the RTR incident. I remember deleting that pic from my history faster than you can say "LOL INTARWEB"...
But my friend saved it.
And showed it to another friend of ours.
Who proceeded to foward it to just about everyone on our little corner of the web.
It really, really wasn't a pretty sight.

Part of me is seriously considered asking for a link to it just out of morbid curiosity. Another part of me is screaming that I'm an idiot. As usual, that part of me is ignored.

Show, please.

Not the seethingly appropriate Gay Fuel theme song in the back.

It really says a lot that I was more repulsed by his snaggletoothed grill than i was by his erect penis. Wtf is wrong with people? I'm sure this is illegal, i woulda called the pigs on him or sued for mental distress.

I couldn't catch my breath long enough to even call a lawyer.

It's about 6:30 in the morning, and I'm looking at this dude who's masturbating and in need of a shave. Fuck.

I think I'm glad I'm at work, and my desire to remain gainfully employed overriding my morbid curiosity.

Still, are you sure you want to be admitting here that you moderate a furry forum? Assuming you're not Captain Cowgirl there too, anybody from there who happens to be lurking deep in enemy territory is going to be left wondering who the traitor in their midst is.

You banned that guy from the forum correct? I didn't know those were a furry group of friends until i read cowgirls post a few up. WTF? look at the dude on the right and the blonde chick! I was sure the minute i looked at this that it was some sort of retard outreach group that RTR was either reaching out, or being reached out too(most likely). I mean my god, we got normal looking people hanging out with......those things. Is all this worth it to be a furry? The horror......

Hm. Once you've seen Goatse, this kind of material isn't so bad. I mean, it's just an ugly, naked guy; it's not like he's doing anything atrocious. Oddly enough, the thing that struck me as most weird about the pic is those creepily grinning cartoon bear faces on the wall/closet/whatever that is.

It's a bit like how a handful of folks here regularly drop hints that they draw furry porn. It's almost as if they have some urge to almost confess and/or be found out.

The fact that they are most likely masturbatory material in one way or another is most disturbing.

Either that or it's an attention whorish tactic, knowing deep down that nobody will give a shit and hoping all the same that they get some sort of quasi-support group. Then there's the fact that one or two of the most popular members are open about their furry porn, and perhaps they want the novelty-fame without realising they need the bouyancy of a personality.

Not at all. Considering my fav thing to do here is punk peoples horrid shit in the attrocity archive, i'm proving that i'm not a complete %100 hypocrite by throwing a little self deprication into it cuz afterall, i'm basically guilty of doing the same shit but on a much much much muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch lower scale of the WTF o meter. I will never punk someone for doing something that i'm guilty of without punking myself first. So i guess in a way it IS a confession. But it is most defenitely NOT attention whoring, i don't give a shit about the internet.

I don't care if i'm "found out", i already took care of that for all of you in a way by preemptively admitting to it. I honestly wouldn't care that much if someone found it and posted it here much like Skunkfuckers Inc. was harassed into posting his a long time ago, luckily that behavior is now a bannable offense so I'm not really worried. I'm just honest about my shortcomings.

It's not a furry message board. We have a few furry members (Rapid, myself, and about 3 or 4 others), but we are by no means a furry message board, although the fandom we are based around has furry undertones.
BTW, I'm totally incognito here. And if I'm found out, it's not much of a big deal to any of us. Me and my fellow mods/admins always get a kick out of the strange folks on our board ;)
And I'm not really a furry-in-denial...I draw furry art, look at furry art, and am friends with a few furry artists. I still like to laugh at the crazier, more absurd parts of furrydumb, of course, and that's why I joined CYD...so I can bitch about beardy old pornsters and babyfurs without my fellow furries telling me I'm judgemental. :)
