Y'know, there's a question that's been on my mind for quite some time, now, but I wanted to wait until I could find an unbiased, informed source before asking it.

And since it seems that the majority of people who post on this forum have an equal amount of odium and contempt for BOTH of the invovled individuals, I figured this'd be as good as place as any.

So just what the HELL happened between Jim Groat and Steve Martin to turn them from good friends into bitter enemies?

well since no one has yet come forward with the story , ill go ahead and speculate

from what i understand they are both assholes

and ive seen this happen several times

when you have 2 people who have the sort of 'asshole' personality, and they are friends - invariably, one of them will do something to the other one that the other one will deem totally unforgivable , no matter how stupid or trivial

but thats just a guess

My understanding of it is that Martin made an ass of himself at some convention and this somehow spread to Groat. Groat, not known for being subtle in any sense of the word, was come down on from up high at a convention and it was later explained to him that because of shit Martin did anyone and everyone who tried to pull shit got hammered.

So, this lead to Groat bitching about Martin, Martin bitching about Groat, and general snickers by everyone else.

One ass making another ass look like an ass by generally being an ass.

This is mostly second hand knowledge, but I figure it was Groat being Groat. He usually has a collection of water pistals and such he carries around with him at cons, not to mention having various knives and such on him. So who knows. Martin is Martin and that's usually all anyone has to say.
