I have never seen an anthro gorilla, chimp, monkey, orangutan, or whatever.
Is this because they're too close to humans already?
Fun Facts: If you asked someone what the primate with the largest penis was, they might say "gorilla", but they'd be wrong. Gorillas have 2-3 inch penises, and very small testicles. Testicle size among primates (probably other animals too) depends upon the promiscuousness of the females in that species: If it's a gorilla, with a silverback having a harem of females, tiny nuts. If it's a chimp (IIRC) where the females are all over the place, large testicles. Humans are in the middle.
But strangely enough, human males have the largest penises of all the primates, and also the most visible against the rest of the body. Human females also have the largest breasts. |

I think its the faces.
The most popular style of art is a human with animal head and tail and fur but otherwise human body. Monkeys are just humans with tails and too much body hair and apes and gorillas dont have tails at all so they are more like cavemen then furries. |

But the tails make all the differnce! If I was crazy enough to have a fursona, it would be a monkey. But I'm not. :P I sitll want a monkey tail, though...
And as far as apes go, I'm kind of surprised there aren't a lot of furries out there claiming to be bonobos. Bonobos sure love sex! :P

Lemurs are very popular, especially the ringtails. Apes and whatnot are difficult to 'anthro', seeing as, like bears, they are very humanlike as is.
If you want to see apes in furry art, torture yourself with some Kurt Logan. |

I think it's mainly cuz outside of lemurs and a few of the smaller primates, they're not cute enough to be anthro'd. |

I'd also chalk it up to what Albino Hagfish and others have said elsewhere, akin to why you never see many dung beetles, leeches, and other cool things. Comparisons to monkeys are, for the most part, negative. |

With all the critters in furry. What speaks against humans ?
Humans are the super duper yiffy. I am all for anthro humans.
A bit hard to draw the first two times but quite easy once you got the hang of em. |

Interesting... this Uncanny Valley thing might explain why I dislike MTV so much.. =)
So many critters there that resemble human... but act strange and wave their limbs at me...
Yo, mothafucka!
Aand I do know one guy who'd said he'd like some chimp sex... =P

But yeah, whatever you want to call it, she still does it. But not nearly as much as her gooftroop/gorillaz pr0n.

How did zeriara get so popular, anyways? Art trades? Drama? All I know is that she's semi-popular and that's it.
Maybe it's the mix of Goth and furry, two really annoying "lifestyles" that individually have their own crazy little batch of followers but together have an unholy force. |

I think it may have been from being in the same circle of "goth furry chicks" as Mayra Boyle aka Huskie. |

I thought Deviant Art passed a "no porn" policy?
I assumed there were few simian furries for the same reason you never see too many hippos, elephants, tapirs, rhinos, alligators, squid, moles, opposums, or any of the other non-cute critters. People just don't think they're as attractive as foxes, wolves, and tigers. |

You could have calamari vore porn or something.
I can just see a grilled squid cut open at both ends and used as some sort of masturbatory device.
Question: Why can I "just see" this? My theory: My brain hates me. |

She's a female. On the internet.
Seriously, being a female furry (or "anthro") artist with some actual drawing ability seems to automatically ensure popularity in furry fandom. |

*cougcough* Once I asked her if she was a furry, and she spouted off something abou tperferring the term 'anthro artist'.
I'd be more willing to accept "anthro artist" if it weren't for all the goddamn drama that follows her and that whole teenage-angsty-gothy-furry-chick demographic that seems to be growing within the fandom.
I also love that every character drawn by the aforementioned populus is anorexically thin enough to be 2-dimensional with a personality that's 1-dimensional, yet their creators are in serious need of a Hambulance.
Seriously, being a female furry (or "anthro") artist with some actual drawing ability seems to automatically ensure popularity in furry fandom.
I find the bolded part incredibly questionable when it comes to most of these people. B'sides, one doesn't need any kind of artistic ability to be popular in the fandom; all it takes is a cheap webcam and some crappy still shots to prove* that one is indeed female.
*Easily faked, of course; just GIS for 'webcam' and pick any random camwhore's gallery. |

Well, I agree, if we talk about every female "artist" in the fandom. But I did mean "some actual drawing ability"; I was thinking of well-known female furry/anthro artists like Michele Light or Amber Panyko or Ursula Vernon. Even though most of furrydumb's top artists really aren't that good when push comes to shove, they're still a hundred times better than the likes of the Urban Hermit and whoever else make up 95% of VCL's "artists". Zeriara at least has a slick, eye-pleasing drawing style and a good sense of use of colour. She's one of those that do have some actual drawing talent but pisses it away on fanservicing bollocks.
B'sides, one doesn't need any kind of artistic ability to be popular in the fandom; all it takes is a cheap webcam and some crappy still shots to prove* that one is indeed female.
That's probably true. But the key - or at least the biggest key - to popularity in the fandom still seems to be the ability to do commissions of people's fursonas (urgh - I really dislike that term). |

A very valid point. Remember, kids: Furry isn't ONLY about sex. It's also about ego stroking and vanity! 8)
Also, I'm glad you made the point that, although the 'popular' and 'talented' artists are in the upper-eschelon as far as artwork production within the fandom, they're really not all that good compared to people and artwork OUTSIDE the fandom. Michelle Light might blow 90% of VCL out of the water, but all she really draws is the same exact character with the same exact body and face, in different poses and with different colorations. (Though the same could be said for the vast majority of 'artists' in the fandom, moreso if you removed 'different poses').
Anyhoo, I'm pulling this farther off topic. To get back on topic: (Real-Life) lemurs are cool. But they don't LOOK like primates. I'm willing to bet the vast majority of people who play them / draw them don't even know that they're primates (They obviously don't know there's more than one species of lemur; then again, this is furry fandom, where half the worlds' species don't exist). Of course, species confusion is a major tenet of the fandom... |

Indeed. Good sources indicate she buys magazines like Playboy to trace get inspiration to draw her char's bodies. |

Michelle Light hasn't always been the pin-up factory artist she seems to be content to live as now. Ever seen the pencil work she did for various issues of Shanda the Panda? I admire artists who can draw comics well (that includes a certain CYD member who draws and writes a certain comic, BTW). |

Okay, if I picked a primate, I'd be a 400 POUND GORILLA! Ramming my fists into the STOMACHS of every phurry who believe in this stupid animal totem spirit BS.
All the while some kick-a** heavy metal plays in the background.

There could be pictures of him climbing a scale model of the Empire State Building. |

That sounds like one of my hairbrained movie schemes from when I was a kid.
