I have no idea why I'm doing this, but I have my theories. Perhaps it's a deeply ingrained instinct of mine to air out my dirty laundry and expose myself (figuratively) due to my Catholic upbringing (boy, I've been reading WAY too much Joe Matt lately), or maybe it's just the fact that the bunch who posts here are the most rational, objective and just plain intelligent group of people I've ever seen in any way associated with this whole 'furry' thing (albeit through odium directed thereof), so I don't have so many misgivings towards exploiting you as an audience to my pointless, bandwith-wasting bit of 'mea culpa'.

Yes, I am Gabriel Gentile.

And yes, I'm the guy responsible for the whole "Rocky Horror Lion King" thing.

For those of you who don't know what I mean, I basically wrote a guide/script/whatever showing how to watch Disney's "The Lion King" with audience participation in the vein of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show".

Why did I do it? I don't know, really. Maybe because I'm such a big fan of both movies, and because, frankly, I had nothing better to do.

Y'see, I wrote it during my senior year in high-school. And as much as those who are currently going through the experience will portray as an angst-ridden, world-shattering experience, I can honestly say, in retrospect, that it was friggin' CAKE! I had absolutely no responsibilities, my parents took complete care of me, and I even had the luxury of my own car (okay, it was a mini-van, but beggars can't be choosers).

Furthermore, I wrote this purile little abomination towards good taste before I had ever even heard of 'furry' (ahh, for those bygone days, the sun seemed to shine SO much brighter back then), and the only times I ever had a chance to even try it out was with the odd (VERY odd) group of friends here and there. Each time, it was generally agreed to be a silly bit of time-wasting fun.

THEN... I discovered 'Furry'.

It started out innocently enough. I was attending the 1996 ComiCon International, and I was told of a 'party' going on later that night by an artist who's work I had recognized from one of my favorite RPGs. I attended this party, and the superficial goings on there only served to reenforce my impression that this whole 'furry' thing as "Oh, it's just people who like to read comics like 'Usagi Yojimbo' and watch movies like 'Animalympics', one of my favorites." (What a naive young fool I was).

It was there, at that very party, that I first introduced "Rocky Horror Lion King" to 'Furry'. I was living in San Diego at the time, so it was easy for me to access copies of my script, and we had a live showing/reading then and there.

And, dammit, I had fun! So did everyone else, from what I could gather.

It wasn't long after that I attended my first 'Furry' convention, the notorious 'ConFurence 8'. Interesting, now that I think about it, how my first convention would be the first step in breaking down my illusion of what this whole 'Furry' thing is about. And this time, I had brought a whole bunch of scripts, having figured "Hey, if this was such a hit at a party, maybe it'll be an even bigger hit at a convention!", and indeed it was. In fact, after a breif bit of convincing to some balding, skinny guy who was then in charge of the convention (guess who), it became an official event, at that ConFurence and several following it.

Now... HERE'S the point of my story (Jesus, FINALLY)!

It would seem that lately certain individuals (all of them involved in 'furry') have been trying to discredit me (which is kind of like giving liposuction to Kate Moss), by responding to everything I say, wherein it is known that I, Gabe Gentile, am the speaker by saying something to the effect of "Oh, it's just Gentile, that guy who did the stupid 'Rocky Horror Lion King' thing, don't listen to him!"

To this, I offer the following response;

Of COURSE it was STUPID! That's all it was ever meant to BE! Just some stupid bit of pointless, sophmoric FUN! It's not MY fault if YOU suddenly want to go and give it SIGNIFICANCE! I never intended to! Not even when YOU would come up to me and say "Hey, y'know, this could be a lot bigger! You could go nation-wide with this"! SCREW that!

I never meant this to be my OPUS or LEGACY or anything like THAT! First of all, Disney would sue the living SHIT out of me! Second of all, I, frankly, have got BETTER THINGS TO DO!

.
.
.
.

Okay... I'm done...

Sorry to have taken up your time. I just had to get that off my chest.

Thanks.

Lion King Rocky Horror picture show script? I'm sorry, I'm a little confused. You said you wrote this so that there could be audience participation in the Lion King? Wouldn't that just be like MSTing it or something? Why do you need a script for that?

Sorry, but this is the first I've ever heard of this.

But it's good you knew it was just stupid fun. Because that's farther than most furries ever come.

Aha, I knew you were. You used “GoManVanGogh” as your e-mail address nym, when you posted to AFF.

I didn’t even know that you made the lion king thing though, or even know of its existence until now.

but I can say that I am filled with apathy over the whole issue.

Christ, you remember that?

I wish I knew what substance I was abusing when I churned THAT crap out to make me actually think I had what it took to make a comic.
