The player of the MUCK character Purple Hase is very concerned about people on the Puzzlebox MUCK wiki being able to-- gasp! shock!-- edit any old page they please. Heaven forbid someone on a wiki should be spreading misinformation!
It's ... surprising to me that the Wiki is maintained entirely on the honor system; anybody could go in and edit anyone else's character info, or so it would seem. Although this hasn't been abused deliberately, there have been some bruised feelings in the past regarding people entering information into the Wiki on behalf of others.
By "some bruised feelings", of course, lionmage means "my bruised feelings", as demonstrated by this mouldy old post:
It would seem that it became general knowledge that she's Strange infected. Now, how did that come about? Because someone wrote this in the Wiki, apparently anonymously: "A bunny possessed by her symbiote and Strange" This is no better than getting "outed" by a newspaper or magazine because you're gay.
Thanks once again for showing what messed-up priorities y'all have, furries!
But wait... there's more! I have here a list of Communists... no, wait, let me start again. I have here a MUCK-mail message which was sent to me when I dared to edit in references to a MUCK character, Diafeara (there is no Diafeara) which disappeared in a puff of angst a while back and now, officially, never existed:
Undoing someone's effort to remove themself from the documentation of the muck as a component of nuking their character LJ is not "minor cleanup." It's being a smarmy asshole.
And so, friends and neighbours, I would like to put in an official request to have the custom title "smarmy asshole". |

Surprise, surprise. Passive aggressives voice displeasure that priveleges of speech is not exclusive to only them.
Also: For the record, I love the term "disappeared in a puff of angst."

Aw. Custom title or no, you'll always be a smarmy asshole in my book. That's what makes you so gosh-darn lovable.
Also: Seriously needing an obviously-ironic display of support. "*wingsnugs*" has been suggested elsewhere, but it doesn't have enough bite. |

I could tell you, but then I'd have to admit to being there. So instead, let's just boil it down to this:
Said person was under the delusion that they were hiding an in-character trait. And they got bent out of shape when said trait was pointed out on a wiki, of all places. Apparently, they have a pessimistic view of others, believing that they will use out-of-character knowledge in the in-character interactions. Like any of it matters, which it doesn't.
Edit: Grammar fix. |

You've watched a play, right? Suppose you're watching a stage production of Romeo and Juliet. The actors playing the parts would be in-character. Being offstage or otherwise being not their parts is out-of-character. Play=Muck. With me so far?
Imagine you're at this live stage play, Juliet's talking about wherefore Romeo and that. And someone whispers to their friend about how Juliet is planning to use a drug to fake death, and it will backfire. This being a small play, everyone can hear. Loud aside = Wiki.
The play must go on, so Juliet would normally play her role, Romeo would play his, ignoring the information given. But in this case, Juliet suddenly gets all huffy, and storms off the stage to complain about being 'outed', because now Romeo won't do the right thing.
Do I need to use hand puppets? |

It doesn't matter, it's a stupid plot-related thing. Let's just say that the "getting 'outed'" remark is probably even more ridiculous of hyperbole than you think it is.
(I considered editing that specific remark out, but decided against it; not exactly one of the brightest decisions of my cranking career.) |
