While glancing over a few infamous furry Livehournals, I happened across this entry from our favorite furry blowhard.
http://www.livejournal.com/users/xydexx/514534.html#cutid1
Apparently we can all recant our burned fur ways and bask in the glory that is furry if only we beg for the inflatophile's forgiveness. But wait, read the fine print! Any names sound familiar? Yump. Our good old Xydexx has a deep loathing for failed Reform party candidate Roy Calbeck (Scott Malcomson).
I searched for forums here, found nothing and went to google. It seems they have a bit of a dramatic history with one another.
There is, firstly, The Wiki wars.
Then, you can look in the halls of LJ Drama infamy.
Or, you can just read this crap.
It never occurs to either of them they sound exactly like each other, wasting hours away debating point by point and stroking thier own egos in the process. Both taking furry, the internet, and their drama... DEADLY SERIOUS.
Fun.
Someone should seriously set up an archive of furries that lits their aliases, a short description and bio, then all their drama laden grudges, and why they hold them. It would be hilarious, and prove you don't need groups like the Burned Furs to divide furries when they do such a good job of it themselves. |

Doubtful. Just another commonplace fallacy the furries fall into; the over-defensive furry-politician types. The ones whose credibility depends on acting superior to anyone critical of them. |

I could start with the original promoters of CF marketing it as an "alternative lifestyle convention" in gay trade magazines, causing CF's membership to expand far beyond what would otherwise be reasonably expected.
 Things are starting to make a bit more sense as to how furry got to this state
Rabble rabble rabble rabble rabble rabble rabble rabble rabble rabble!!!!1
I swear, when i read this shit i have to keep reminding myself that these people are adults. Fucking pathetic |

Actually, Malcomson used to post here years ago, although I'm too lazy to find his profile right now. |

Haw. Roy and Xydexx. I still contend that they'd be a great celebrity deathmatch. |

Why does Xydexx go on and on and on about the Burned Furs - a group that ceased to exist years ago?
I wonder if flogging a dead horse counts as a furry fetish? |

But that would require them to be celebrities.
And I miss that show. |

I think Xydexx is part of the furry fandom not because of his fondness to furry art / literature / any other artistical expression, but because it's the only collective that would admit his quite minoritary sexual fetish without asking too many questions.
The original Burned Furs' idea was to fight against the fandom's general apathy or permisiveness towards people like Xydexx -hence why it gained so much popularity before some freaks derailed the whole movement through hystrionic stupidity-; however, in a first moment, it seemed the Burned Furs could succeed on their purposes, and that scared the hell out of a lot of people who were attracted by the fandom by the easy, kinky sex. It seems the experience scared Xydexx, too, and hence why he's always so scared every time somebody dares to question the fandom's low moral standards.
On the other side, it's also true that, while the Burned Furs disappeared a while ago, the reasons for it to be created are still alive and well on the fandom; hence why every time somebody accuses the fandom of being a cesspool of stinky, perverted sex, Xydexx jumps defensively to defend his little fetish, affirms furry fandom is perfectly normal and morally acceptable like a Disney movie and accuses the Burned Furs to be behind the affirmation. |

m_estrugo, that's a damn good explanation. Makes sense that the furries with the most wigged-out fetishes wouldn't want furry fandom to suddenly become about something as mundane as funny animals. Still, it's too late for that change; the perverts won. Once in a while, you do get non-Burned Fur furries saying, "this fandom needs to get its act straight" - and they're always ignored. |

The burned furs were ruined by the uber-conservative edge of the fandom like Ben Bruin who joined up thinking it was one giant 'fuck you' to the gay priders of the fandom, not just a subtle outstep from the absurdity. Really, from an experimental point of view, it only proved that even the furries who weren't fetishers could be batshit insane as well.
Also.
I can see by the writing on the wall that AngryPuritan needs to get out more.
I take back my statement about Xydexx and Calbeck being so similar... Scott was more engaging. You know though, if Xydexx really is so opinionated about the fandom's state, the shadow-threat of the burned furs and CYD... why doesn't he sign up here? I mean, after Simo and CS how much worse can it get? |

Was SIMO banned? God I hope not.
(Sarcasm plz)
Anyways, aslong as everyone at CYD keeps a cool head and doesn't go into the deep end (any which way) I think we'll be fine. |

Does anyone have a "burned fur flame war" timeline or something, so that noobs like me can figure out what's going on without having to wade neck deep through bullshit?
There's a lot of "Oh, that happened back in the flame war". Is there an article that explains what ACTUALLY happened during "the war"? |

Yes, there's Computolio's two-part "exhumation and examination" right here: Burned Fur Part 1, Burned Fur Part 2. |
