Is anyone going to this. I figured I'd sign up and go to see what all the bub bub is about. Should be fun seeing as It will be my first furcon aside from hanging out with friends.
So what am I to expect up here in Washington?? the worse of the worse or semi normal people. |

I've found that many of the furries in the Puget Sound area are a special kind of fucked up.
There are two main camps here, so far as I can tell:
A) The 'old guard', who hate everyone who isn't over 30 and have managed to convince themselves they created 'furry'.
B) The younger crowd, who think that Seattle is some kind of twisted San Francisco where the furry community is as important or more important than the gay community.
There are a few scattered decent folks in the area, but as is the standard with furries, the semi-normal ones are hard to find and the freaks are the most vocal.
I'm not sure how good or bad Conifur will be, as I haven't gone near it in 5 years, but IIRC it was being run by the (A) furries, and when I went, actual programming and socializing that didn't involve the exchange of money was frowned upon. |

From what I gather, it's best to have a known non-flake friend either come with you, or going to it as well. Both is best. Safety in numbers and whatnot, and that way, even if it all sucks, you've at least hung out with a real human being or two.
Foxid, is this where some boytoy got offended by the 'straight' pin? |

I've never been to a con, as I'm in the UK and there aren't any. However, I've been to a few (too many) meets, and I can only imagine a con would be at least ten times as wrong. |

I believe that was Anthrocon, actually. But I wouldn't put it past some of the kids around here. |

Well I guess that is good, I live no where near Seattle and don't really care for the gay community, so I think I'm clear. As for bringing a friend, I was hoping a friend sense high school would come with me as a type of body guard. Don't believe he will be all cool with going to a fur con though.
I'm just going to see if all the talk about most of 'furry' being fucked up in the head is true :D |

What, you don't take our word for it? :p I've been to four conventions, and finding out that they really do act in person like they do online is what convinced me to start putting some distance from the fandom. |

Furry concention woes come from their long leash (if any) on their personal behavior, but from the two I went to, the 'weirding the norms' behavior was marketedly low. Granted, some didn't think and wore bondage strapped fursuits anyway. Hell, the social mixer at AC 05 had an impromptu sumo wrestling tournament. Until one guy hurt his shoulder... DUH.
Where furries REALLY cause uproar, drama and purposefully try to turn heads is at general sci-fi or other non-specifically-furry cons. When furries feel threatened, they act so much worse. |

I strongly advise against this, that could ruin a friendship with awkward silences and lack of eye contact in the aftermath. It would be like getting shit faced and making out with your best friend of the same sex, things would never be the same.... |

Agreed. Only go with someone who's already seen the worst of it, and knows that it's not something that should reflect on you. Otherwise you could have a friendship ruined by having to explain what the word 'Yiff' means, and why you shouldn't be associated by the guy parading around in a fox costume with leather straps. |

All that, then the inevitable question.
"Why did you want to come here again?" Followed by
"So...your into this" Then the inevitable
"YOU SKUNKFUCKING FAGGOT!!1 SA RULES!!" |

hahahaha That wouldn't be a problem, yes said friend is a goon, but he already knows I'm a furry. He gave me the " Is he going to yiff me in my sleep " look. After that though hes come to terms that I'm not as batshit insane that the fandom seems to be.
I'm just hoping to meet someone who isn't crazy and have a good time...hopefully. |

Honestly, why bothering into going to a furry convention when there are so many more interesting things to do with your time/money/attention?
I like doodling funny animals, and in the two times I've been on furry conventions, I thought it was an absolute waste of time, as I thought my interests and the interests of those attending the conventions were diametrally opposite. Actually, on my latter con, I ended up watching "Return of the Pink Panther" in my room with a couple of friends instead of attending the panels, parties or performances programmed for that day.
Speaking of furry cons, I've heard the attendance of this year's Anthrocon was smaller than the previous year for the first time, and less attendance is expected for 2006, as Anthrocon moves to Pittsburgh, thus pushing it further from the east coast's main furry concentrations. |

It was mostly smaller because so many went to the abandoned Adam's Mark. WAY IT GO FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS FURRIES. |

That's allright. However, if I had the chance between going to a furry con or elsewhere, I'd go elsewhere.
Like, for instance, renting (or buying) a nice classic car and drive it on Nurburgring. |

well, I missed the pre sign up date because of family things. So I may just miss it and wait till next year when things are more calm around the house :(
As for the why bother going? I don't know. Just seems like fun to meet new people of the same fandom. Goons are fun and all to hang out with but how many times can you hear homosexual slangs thrown around in a day. and besides its only 40$ if you sign up ahead, and I live right down the road ( ...not really but close enough to drive unlike MFF :( ) |

Oh my god, he's in junior highschool :x
I will never go to a furry con, thank you for showing me this pic. It's like you know they will be there but then you stare them in the face and it's a whole new perspective. So what does his little outfit have to do with cartoon animals? |

OMFG it's his totem animal don't be so racist
Anime is getting worse too... I know a few people who refuse to go back to anime conventions for the same reason. |

I always thought jailbait was somebody underage who was also attractive.
You have weird taste I guess. |

Jailbait is a person below the age of consent with whom sexual intercourse can constitute statutory rape. I don't have to find someone attractive in order to know that someone else will. Personal preferences aside (and mine don't run in that direction, FWIW), the guy's dressed like one big invitation to do the horizontal mambo.
Not that being dressed like that necessarily means "I'm game"; I saw several people in that type of gear (sans the fake ears & tail) at the last Nine Inch Nails concert I attended. Then again, concerts aren't there for porn trades and meeting online yiff-friends, while that seems to be the driving points behind furry cons. |

LoKi speaks the truth. One year at MFM there was this really faggy couple there, and at one dinner one of them decided to attend in ears and a strapless dress. You will see many furs like this. Have fun! :D |

The best thing to do atound them is to simply act like they look no different to anyone else. I mean, a furry can like cock without having to dress up like a dumbass to parade that fact. Since they only seek attention, ignore them.
Actually, that could probably apply to a lot more things in the fandom. |

Hotpants-boy could've just put a siren on his head shrieking 'I need attention!' rather than looking like... That. I'm sure many would've obliged to give him attention other than trying to prod their genitalia into the poor guys bum that way.
Being not-so-straight myself, I can honestly say Hotpants-boy don't look much, his face is the catalyst for a few laughs. He'd be more attractive with a mask or something. A brown paper bag would do. |

Meh, Only 19 cant really drink legally, and Seattle is a pain in the ass unless using the buss system. But always down for doing something...as long as that doesn't include me being murdered ;_; |
