So I read Thomas Frank's "What's the Matter with Kansas?" and the bit about how when the fundie Christians there complain about persecution, call people fascists and Nazis, and generally behave like total nutbars, they're not doing this in the face of actual persecution, eg being jailed, exiled, executed, whatever. What they call persecution is in fact just criticism: Saying "Wow, these people are nuts, they want to teach Creationism in lieu of actual fucking science" makes you into a member of the anti-Christ death squads.

And this seemed familiar. It's probably common to a lot of groups that see themselves as being marginalised, or martyrs, or whatever... Often they are marginalised, often by their own hands, but rarely are they truly martyred.

Isn't it though? Saying someone is 'attacking' you by debating you online is a tad less delusional than believing everyone who doesn't think exactly like you is doomed to suffer for all eternity.

If furries are left on their own, they mostly on hurt themselves (and the occassional real animal). If fundies are left on their own, we have total theocracy for everyone.

At least the average furry is far less ignorant than the average fundie (i.e. my dads whole side of the family from texas). At least furries know the earth is older than 5000 years.

It kinda scares me that the religion i was raised to believe, sufism reoriented apparently believes that Meher Baba will wipe out all life on planet earth to "save it" inbetween the next 50 to 200 years. Apparently baba placed this date conviniently juuuuuuuuuust outside of the lifespan of all existing sufis i might add. So nobody can say "i told you so"

I like her work too, she's also a member of FCC. Personally though (and we've had this conversation on FFC as well) there's difference between tasteful nude art and pornography. Look through Xian's VCL archive and you will find find bits, but nothing hardcore. No sexual intercourse, not even an erect penis.

Unfortunately, even tasteful (or fully clothed for that matter) art can serve as wank material, but hey. At least some people have standards.

2. You could marry as many wifes as you like
3. Everyone was equally smelly and dirty (except the Romans)

Actually yes, Jesus warned of the dangers of thoughtcrime. When the fundies preach that eyeing up a woman is committing adultery in the heart, they're not taking it out of context. He said that. Of course Jesus said and did a lot of really strange things, like spitefully withering a fig tree because it didn't have any fruit for him, and telling Joseph that castration was the best way to avoid sin. That wacky messiah.

If you compare furries to any religious fundamentalist, then you give furry the same footing as the basis of that fundamentalism. Religious fundamentalists are based on religion. To give furry that much weight is a gigantic mistake. Then the nuts who ramble about anthropomorphics and desire to have sex with animal people going back to ancient Eqypt get all warm and fuzzy and that's not helping anyone, is it?
