FA is back, sort of NWS

I'm just wondering how long until someone breaks their shitty code again...

While FurAffinity is still in beta, trolling and slander towards other members will not be tolerated. Likewise, rampantly exploiting broken code WITHOUT reporting it may be considered trolling. We expect you to break things in the beta, NOT use those vulnerabilities to wreck the system.

If you find a bug report it, and help us get the kinks worked out of the system. The faster we get the bugs out of the way, the faster the site gets back online.

Isn't rampantly exploiting code moreso hacking than trolling? Telling people to break things without breaking the system is leaving yourself open to all sorts of the bad kind of hackers...

"This is a beta test, so please don't break it..."

*sigh* I was going to say something witty about furries never getting the point of things but it's very late and I can't be arsed.

Well it may be in beta, but that's no reason to deprive people of their furry smut, even for a moment! Let's keep our priorities in order, here. Wank material far outweighs the value of having a stable server to host it on.

I was acctually surprised, i had never gone to FA and browsed through a few pages just now and didn't see a single dick or anything that was overtly NSFW, at this rate, FA will never survive, if theres no porn furries can not be interested. Obviously i'm missing something, you have to create an account to see porn huh?

Preyfar/Dragoneer is a saint, or simply has nothing better to do with his time.
The FA shitstorm pissed off a lot of artists though, after the 6-month span where they ran from DA to SA to FA only to have a fat fuck's drama sink the whole thing.

Both FA and AP look promising, I want them to succeed, I really do, but I know darn well that they'll probably be down in a month. Pity.

Then again, I'm still waiting for Yerf to come back up.

I give more of a chance to Art Plz then FA. At least AP is not being run by Jerhyn.

was yerf actually any good? I heard it was mostly proffessional artists, or at least had quite a few of them so it sounded promising.

I don't see any reason why furries can't just use dA and VCL respectivley. They compliment each other so well for their needs. You can put the copyright characters on dA as 'fanart', and the furry smut on VCL. Hell, dA admins will usually look the other way to furry smut with th dicks blurred out, and drama is liberally spread over each. Yerf, dA and VCL all have different priorities, and philosophies, and I don't see why furries need stuff like the old pro-porn Sheezyart or Furaffinity. If they need an all encompassing smut dump that badly, they can set up their own site.

But that would require work!

Yerf was good. It was a place where one could view good furry art without seeing poorly-drawn smut, a place that you could show to non-furry fans without them being squicked, and a friendly atmosphere although it got a bit elitist in the past few years regarding new applicants. The best time by far to get accepted into Yerf was in the late 90s when entrance was admited by an email rather than a message board. Viewing the recent uploads page everyday used to be a pastime of mine. The "grandfathered art" was another reason I liked the site. You know that David Gonterman, Huskie and SWMNBN were once part of Yerf? DaveyKins for a brief time had some art from BAM and comic pages on there that I wish I could view again.

Check it out, there's still an archive.org, uh, archive of Yerf for the moment. (Also an incomplete archive of the old Squeaky Clean Furry Archive, part 1 and part 2.) Enjoy it before some batshit furry artist starts squealing COPYRITE MEEEEEEEEE.

FA is still a drama masterpiece.

Suule (FA lapdog) uncovers "artplz beta" which turns out to be HTML mockup everyone had seen months ago: http://www.livejournal.com/community/furaffinity/58426.html

FurAffinity users go batshit insane and quit due to percieved troll invasion: http://www.furpawz.net/fa/viewtopic.php?t=211&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

"hey guys i'm looking for other fatfurs and inflation fetishists to rp with" http://www.furpawz.net/fa/viewtopic.php?t=212

I'm starting to think DA kicked out the smut masters and SA pissed off the furries at the right time.

The last link is a LOLer and a half. WHAT THE SHIT.

dA never 'kicked out' the smutmasters, SA did. dA has always been anti-porn, be it yiff, hentai or photographic porn. 'Cheesecake' stuff tends to be ignored, but it's not like dA ever was a suitable place to upload your hermtaur raping the Chyrsler building.

Yerf was the only furry art site really worth bothering with IMHO, for the reasons Stoneth lists. The accusation against Yerf for being "elitist" is typically furry "can't say anything bad about anyone" thinking, though - Yerf commendably demanded a certain minimum amount of artistic ability and good taste of its members, which is why you didn't have to wade armpit-deep through shitty art to find a few diamonds, as is the case on dA and VCL (which is why I can't be arsed to waste time on those sites, unless someone hands me a link directly to something cool). On Yerf you could browse the recent uploads and find lots of neat stuff without having your retinas burned out by crudely drawn wolf cock (or well-drawn wolf cock, for that matter - Yerf was the direct offspring of the aptly-named Squeaky Clean Furry Archive and had a strictly enforced no-porn policy).

It was on Yerf I first saw art by talented people like Scotty Arsenault, Kelly Hamilton, Jenn Rodriguez and Stina Lövkvist, who may or may not be furries, but they do make nice art. Yerf also had a good community where people would give constructive criticism of each other's art, rather than the mind- and useless OMG I LOVE YOUR ART found elsewhere in furry fandom.

Too bad Yerf had no backup and site admin Dingo turned out to be a wanker who's taken over $ 2,000 in donations after the crash and still not got it up and running again, almost a year later. I stopped checking a long time ago. But many of the good Yerf artists have gone pro or semi-pro and also have sites of their own by now, so Yerf served a purpose. Was fun while it lasted.

betting

50 euros for under a month :D!

*erhemm*

I miss FA D: it was so much fun... the drama.. the inflation furry-smut hell.. it was just too much comedy, now it all is gone..
OR IS EET!?
8D

Hehe.. random note.. Once I found a hilarious comic at FA. In it was this guy who was giving a blowjob to other guy and quess what the one yelled while he was enoying it?
"Oh shit!! OH SHIIIIIT!!"
HAHA! I wouldn't yell "oh SHIT" while being licked.. I think it would kinda.. ruin the mood?

Yerf sounds good D: I wasn't fast enough to see it..
I miss having an art-site without toonsmut what is easy to browse. SA and DA are pain with browsing randomly.

You do now. The old version had no such restriction. Funny, I considered suggesting such a modification on their forum while they were down, but I figured I'd be bombarded with cries of "OMG CENSORSHIP!!!!" so I didn't bother. Thank goodness for small favors.

What's sad -- and kinda scary -- is that FA is back already and Yerf shows no signs of being ready anytime soon. Just goes to show where people's priorities are.

In the meantime, I guess I'll hide out on VCL until something better comes along, or I get my own site. Deviant Art just started to piss me off for so many reasons (popularity contests, pointless comments/no critiques/stupid rule policy) and even though I have a year subscription I couldn't be bothered with it anymore.

I tried FA under a different name for about a day, but its even worse than DA. So I give up.

It's real shame about YERF really.
