While reading the responses to this ad, I began to formulate a somewhat bizarre theory.

To begin with, we all know that some men are turned on by big buttocks. It's also common knowledge that the majority of Western males do not share this fetish. OK so far. Furthermore, it is very well known that the Western world has an obesity problem - particularly the USA -, and that "bulking up" should not be encouraged. This may explain - even justify - the hostile reaction that these billboards have recieved. However, the woman in the billboard does not look excessively flabby - just firmly rounded.

We often laugh and jeer at the obsessions of furries, because their fetishes deviate from normal sexuality. This is understandable - and, besides, most of them aren't very subtle about their fetishes anyway. Exhibitionists invite attention, good or bad.

So what has this got to do with the billboard in question? Well, call me strange, but I have made a connection that is very disturbing indeed.

It is clear from the public responses to this ad campaign that "normal" sexuality has become so narrowly defined that everything else is perceived as weird. The natural male heterosexual attraction to a woman's buttocks is rigged with too many standards of "normality". With so many cultural rules attached to something that is supposed to be natural and pleasant, is it any wonder that some simply throw the towel in and give up even pretending to be "normal"?

A man - or, more to the point, an impressionable teenager - who has a preference for women in the size 12-16 range (it doesn't have to be higher) will have trouble finding what he is looking for in mainstream media. Naturally, he may look elsewhere. But where will his searches lead him?

If someone flippantly states that a size 14 woman has "a butt like a horse", there is bound to be at least one impressionable teenager nodding his head as he reads/listens, saying to himself "Yes ... she does."

I'm not certain if this is true for even 1% of furries, but it does bear thinking about.

What you said has merit. It is often hard to fit into what society considers strictly "normal". I know my own liking of hentai(anime porn) doesn't fall into normal exactly. :oops:

But at the same time I don't go around proudly proclaiming to the world how great hentai is, nor to I cry "persecution" when people poke fun at how ridicules most hentai is.

People have been saying the media holds women to impossible standards of beauty for like 20 years. I'm glad to see somebody rebelling against the "ideal" of anorexic, airbrushed mannequins with giant silicone boobs and botox-paralyzed faces.
