First of all, we have this, which spawned a few threads on aff and alf.
Quoted herein (from zoophile.org):
Heyas all, It's Farley the Lynx, official mascot of Camp Feral!. In response to numerous requests for information, and growing attendance of people from the zoo community at Feral!, I felt that I would visit my other friends in the forest. :) I also want to tell you why Feral is the ultimate furry con experience, and a welcoming, fun, and safe environment for furry and zoo alike... What is it about the furry fandom that attracts us in the first place? For some it may be the love of role-playing, or of anthropomorphic art, or writing. For others it may be nothing more than finding friends around the neighbourhood, around the country, and around the world who share and understand their interests. Whatever the reason may be, at the very bottom there is a togetherness, a sense of belonging and of camaraderie that is hard to find in the mundane world. For many, attending furry conventions is a wonderful way to personally meet new friends, or to renew acquaintances with old ones usually seen only through the cold glare of a computer text display. In either case, conventions can be moments of magic that are over far too soon. Those who founded Feral! always noticed that, as fun and exhilarating as hotel cons are, there was still always something missing. The missing piece of the puzzle was the very same thing that ancient man knew best. Sometimes to really discover and experience the most important parts of yourself, you have to be in contact with Nature. To walk under dark night skies, where the only lights are the moon and stars that you gaze at in timeless wonder and awe. To hear only the sounds of birds, animals, and the wind. To huddle around the warming fire, sharing music, song, and closeness, like tribal man once again. To be feral of the spirit, and to live by talon, tooth and claw If you would like to attend Feral! 2003, or would like more information, please visit us at http://www.campferal.org

(Don't miss Donkeyot's post in that thread.) So is Feral! openly condoning beastiality? The alf threads predictably contain some "who-are-you-to-judge-that-there's-anything-wrong-with-me-fucking-dogs?" posts. Personally, I think it's probably just a troll, as "Farley the Lynx" isn't listed as official mascot or anything else at Feral's site.

Then, from a thread titled "new stuff added at www.crushyiffdestroy.com", we have this, about Quozl:
By the way, does anyone have a save of "The Quoz came Back" filk from
1996 (Google Groups doesn't have it), and Quozl's public admission to
finger-fucking his cat?

Which I can't help but feel is worse, since, being smaller, a rat has both less chance of escaping and less chance of surviving.

Related anecdote time: a friend of mine once had a *koff* "yiffy experience" with his pet rat -- purely by accident, I hasten to add. He decided to brush its fur, you see, and the rat was, well, overcome with sheer ecstacy at the sensual bliss of the experience and started squirming strangely, and well, let's just say that he had to wash the hand he'd been holding Mr Rat with... and never brushed the little scoundrel ever again. To this day the phrase "Well, brush my rat!" is guaranteed to embarrass him.

That's not too bad. Similar stuff's happened to me, in fact. I keep rats- females- and they go into heat every four days or so. If I happen to pet them on one of *those* days, they'll go into SPASTIC LORDOSIS.

As long as your friend doesn't jam his finger into a rat's anus up to the knuckle like this livejournal guy apparently does, I don't think he's got anything to be ashamed of.

It really is true (so I say, and can I say wrong?)
The inhabitant of this mortal coil who is in charge of “camper relations” at “Feral”
Namely one “Miami” (probably the very same “Miami pony” who featured in some Documentary about the furry fandom, And revealed the inner sinner in a terrible light)
Is in fact in themselves, somewhat an animal abuser in the manner that is most unnatural.

And The word that the lord imparts into our minds through the agent of fortune (rumour) is that camp feral is little more than an excuse for young men to commit the beast with two backs with other such young men, and also being attended by such people who abuse animals most unnaturally.

And what that is, is a god given call, a call to arms, a call to take up the Red Cross.

A call for those with ideologies to push, to jump on the bashing bandwagon and push them.
A call to gather power to those who will wield it against others (since power is exclusionary by nature)

Or at least it would be, if anyone cared or any real issues of power revolved around this, i.e it was important. And in this day of dwarves,(dwarves who stand on the shoulders of giants it may be added) nobody does.

theyd sooner arrest these guys for being "faggots" and on sodomy charges than because any type of abuse that is occuring

Greetings,

Someone brought my attention to this forum, and I thought it best that I clear up some of the rumours that have started.

Feral! is a Furry convention in a camping environment, and we pride ourselves on presenting a comfortable atmosphere for anthropomorphic fans of all ages and all walks of life. Our campers are the same mix of people you would find at any Furry convention... small and large, male and female, straight and gay, old and young, single, mated, and families... and even some known zoos.

Feral! is not about to discriminate against our campers based on any of these things -- and in fact we try to advertise the convention to ALL people who might be interested in attending. (Imagine that!)

However, we make it very clear that while at Feral!, all of our campers must abide by some rules. Topical examples:

- Campers should always abide by Federal, Provincial and Local laws - this means no sex in public and no bestiality.

- The public areas at Feral! will be "PG-13" at all times - this means no nudity, no sexual behaviour, and certainly no bestiality.

- No pets allowed at Feral! - This kinda negates bringing your own animal sex-toy.

- Do not approach the wildlife or coax it to approach you - So no wild animal nookie either. (Good luck trying this approach anyways.)

All attendees of Feral! must sign that they agree to abide by these (and other) rules. Anyone found breaking the rules will be reprimanded based on the severity of their transgression, up to and including immediate explusion from Feral!, and even being banned from attending subsequent related events.

In closing, we have had 5 successful years of Feral!, many with young adults and even parents with children there, and I have not heard of one incident or complaint about inappropriate activity with an animal.

Thanks for allowing me to clear this up,

Branwyn,
Feral! Planning Committee Marketing Head.

(on behalf of Farley Lynx, Feral! mascot)

The prosecution will stipulate that Farley Lynx's original post on zoophile.org and the Feral website made it clear that no pets are allowed, etc. That said:
FURRY IS SIMPLY A COMMUNITY OF PEOPLE THAT ENJOY ANTHROPOMORPHIC ART, RIGHT? WHICH IS WHY A WELL-KNOWN FURRY CON ADVERTISES ON A BEASTIALITY WEBSITE.

Oooooooooookay. You're doing great things for yer fandom's image, there, Branwyn. I'm sure everyone involved will appreciate it. Rock on.

lol, i cant believe this

"About Feral!
"Once a year, the northern forest comes alive! Each August, Furry Fans from around the world come together in the wilds of Central Ontario. Far away from the concrete, steel, and smog of the city, you can breathe the clear, fresh air of the northern woods,"

Ok, im listning, awayfrom citys, good, good, i hate citys go on.....

"and experience closeness, camaraderie, and fellowship in the wilderness."

Starting to sound a bit weird but.....

"The warm, pleasant sun of the Feral! days will present you with a plethora of activities to participate in. From games, and recreation, to artistic workshops, there are always fun, and stimulating activities to fill your time."

Still sounding good, arts and crafts, sounds like fun......

"As the day slowly begins to steal towards darkness, the beauty, and magic of the Feral! nights begin."

Oh,oh

"Under the clear light of thousands of bright stars, you will feel the true closeness to the wild, and to one another."

Why am i getting scared?

"Often, you will hear the sounds of wild animals,"

"Im going to stop reading before the next words which probly are "Become ing closer with Camp-members"

I have no-ida how to describe my fear of this place :P

If you are recruiting people to attend from advertising on bestiality sites, does this mean the official stance of the Convention is that you support bestiality and the people who commit it?

If so, why do you not publicly say this?
Since I’m sure that not everyone would want to be involved in something, which supports bestiality.
And therefore to not tell them that they are attending an event which supports bestiality (and therefore if it ever got any negative attention along this lines could impact negatively upon themselves as they would have attended such a place)

Is doing a potential disservice with what would be very real consequences to those people who choose to attend who do not know about your support for bestiality and the people who commit it.

I would never ever go to a pet shop that supported bestiality publicly, I would boycott it. As I’m sure, would many other people, as is their right.

You have a duty to inform people what they are getting when they go to your con. If they are getting a con, which supports bestiality, you should tell them that.

Posted: 7/24/2003 2:30:54 AM     Post subject: Further Clarification Re: Feral!

For those following this thread, or reading it for the first time:

I've been looking into the issue of the Feral! ads posted on the zoophile site previously mentioned.

After speaking with my staff, I have determined that those posts were not official posts, and were never authorized by any member of the Feral! Planning Committee -- due to the function of that particular board, anyone can post using any name; no passwords or email addresses are needed.

We have no control over someone who copies official ads from approved boards and reposts them to any other boards. We can't even keep people from posting in our mascot Farley's name. I would not be surprised if the same ads have also been reposted on other unapproved boards.

I am currently trying to have those ads removed from the zoophile board, due to the backlash and misconceptions they have caused on this board, and elsewhere. However, once again due to the function of the zoo board and the caution with which the administrators must conduct themselves, it is not easy to get a hold of someone who can and will remove posts.

Hopefully that clears up some of the fears and worries that have been circulating over the past week.

Finally -- I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all furries to attend Feral! I think that our success in running a fun yet reputable Con for the past 5 years speaks for itself. If you are interested in attending, or just to see more ACTUAL OFFICIAL AUTHORIZED information, please go to our website at http://www.campferal.com

If you have any further questions or concerns, please email me! My email address is always available on the Feral! website.

Hope to see you at Feral!

Branwyn, aka Dan Desveaux,
Chairfur of the Feral! Planning Committee.

(And, of course, Farley the Feral! Lynx)

I think we have the most massive back-pedal in the history of the entire fricking Internet, here.

"Farley the Guinea Worm" / "Branwyn"-s first post was to defend and clarify the Feral (insert horribly gay exclamation point here) ad on that beastiality board.

Now, we're told that WHOOPS WE DIDN'T ACTUALLY READ ANY OF THE POSTS ON HERE OR USENET, AND WE SURE DIDN'T REALIZE THAT SOMEONE ELSE HAD COPIED OUR POST TO THAT BOARD WE WERE DEFENDING WHICH WE DIDN'T REALIZE WAS NAMED ZOOPHILE DOT ORG AND WE NOW WISH TO DISTANCE OURSELVES FROM IT EVEN THOUGH THE COPIED/PASTED POST OPENLY WELCOMED BEASTIALISTS(excuse me, "zoophiles" - it's not "animal abuse", it's "love", I keep forgetting) TO OUR CONVENTION ANYWAY BEFORE WE ACCIDENTALLY POSTED HERE AND ON USENET ABOUT TEN TIMES DISCLAIMING THE WHOLE THING.

Right.

You people have an image problem, and you wonder why.

IT'S ALL ABOUT TOLERANCE OF OTHER PEOPLE'S LIFESTYLES - and dogfucking.

Gaah. I think you've spelled out pretty clearly what Feral (insert horribly gay exclamation point here) is about. And it ain't appreciation of anthropomorphic animal art.

Enough.

On a side note - hey Jerry, Burning Man is about one percent as cool as it used to be. You can't even take pictures without a permit, now, and security / cops are everywhere.

Oktoberfest, on the other hand, is well worth doing. IST DAS NICHT UN SCHINTZELBANK? JA, DAS IST UN SHITNZELBANK! Good times.

The only thing I can add to Repomancer's post is that everyone reading this please, please find and download that BBC "Anna In Wonderland" show bout the furries if they haven't done so already. Contained within is a wonderful scene showing just what a shameful spectacle the whole "Feral!" camp is. There's just something eerie about a whole bunch of basement-troll twentysomethings trying to bring their fantasy into a more rural setting, trying to make it look more real but at the same time making it look exponentially LESS real and failing miserably.

Otherkin do the same thing with similar results. I've seen photos of said gatherings; they're amazing.

P.S. Oh, and Jerry- What's this about Ernie Kovacs' birthday? Is it celebrated as some sort of festival or something?

Actually...
The camp she went to is one that the St. Louis furs do, therefore it's not Feral!, which is done north of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
I used to work on the Feral! committee, doing a number of things, and have been around enough to know the difference between events and whatnot. ;)
We've never permitted press into Feral!, except for Rick Castro, who had used a few little bits of footage for the infamous MTV episode. Rick was actually misleading a lot of people on how he intended on doing his article, which is a shame.... yet predictable enough for someone trying to profit through the media. :P
