I've created an LJ art community: http://www.livejournal.com/community/no_furry_art
We will strive to give a professional and excellent display of anthropomorphic art. If your an artist that enjoys/applies anthropomorphics to your art, but you totally loathe the "furry" label and it's fandom, we want the best..we want you!!
Thank you! |

Furry IS the 'sick perverted side'. That's all it is. From what I read,
furry = jerking off to pictures of hermaphrodite mice
anthropomorphics = cartoon animals, human-like animals, etc.
There's many furs who aren't interested in porn. They seem to be too afraid to speak out about the people who DO. They're afraid that Foxxefyre StormClaw won't be their fwiends anymore, or they'll be cast out, so they just float around. Hope that explains it. |

Well, anthropomorphics is a real word.
Furry is, but not in the way furries use it. Grab yourself a dictionary and look up furry. It doesn't tell us humaniod animals, see anthropomorphic.
Some moronic furry fan came up with a stupid meaning and added it to an already existing word (which you can't do). A word is now a twisted label. |

What makes one word More “real” than another?
Because all words are ultimately nothing more than arbitrary human constructs.
I mean, When I talk about a Dog. I’m talking about this creature which lives on earth.
But who says that the word dog HAS to mean that thing?
Or even needs to exist at all?
Only other humans. So to that extent, It’s nothing more than an arbitrary definition with no legitimacy other than what we care to give it.
So, Ultimately, you cannot claim that any one word is more “real” than another.
If more people studied critical thinking, there would be less trouble. |

Bad choice of "real". How about anthropomorphics is an actual word? |

www.livejournal.com/interests.bml?int=anti-furry Livejournal Users who list anti-furry as one of their interests. These are individuals to watch for. "Individuals to watch for" indeed. They make it sound like they're some sort of dangerous and violent threat that will hunt furries down and stab them in their homes.
http://www.somethingawful.com - Anti-fur Agenda's abound Anti-damn-near-everything agendas abound. Can these people not take a joke?
Well, at least it's not as bad as this little google result. It's almost as if they can't comprehend or acknowledge the fact that sometimes people do things with photoshop for reasons other than to support some fetish or other... |

 I... I must admit. I know Strega, and they're not as dense as the standard 'fur' - Just has soem rather odd fetishes. I was the only one who had the guts (lol funnay) to go to lunch with them for the last con I attended.
I returned highly unscathed. They found it odd that I was so jaded that I wasn't peturbed - and believe it or not, they're not the type to talk about this crap incessantly. I was a bit suprised. |

Actually, it was more like 'porn <--> furry'. They wanted furry, but none of the weirdness associated with it. Didn't work.
But when it comes to the whole thing with furry vs anthropomorphics thing, I find that silence works best. Do whatever work you do and let it speak for you, just don't bring up the f-word without good reason, and things go pretty swell. Drawing unecessary attention away from your work and towards whatever label politics you're trying to avoid will just get messy. |

I can see some connection between the word furry and the word airsoft..
I live in Norway and I do a sport called airsoft (it used to be called softgun) - the reputation of this sport was very very bad for no real reason.
This is a picture of me ready to go airsofting. I and all the guys I play with are concerned about safety, everyone must use goggles and never take them off during a game, we only play at spesific places (we do this legally unlike softgun-people) were we are allowed to play, most people are over 18-years old and are generally very responsible people. We use bio-degradable bullets.
Then compare that with this - cheap weapons being used for robbery, kids shooting eachother in school, walking around with them in public and such things.
The bad reputation softgun had affected the more serious sport. Someone in the serious sport had enough and decided to change the sports name to "airsoft" - that really helped. People dont assosiate us with much of the bad things they used to assosiate us with when the sport was called softgun. Some people still think we are paramilitary or nazi's (some airsofters use SS uniforms when playing WW2 games - they are not nazis though).
I think us normal furries should find a new word for our interest, that way people will relate our new word with the stuff we do instead of the stuff some other furries do.
I have no suggestions whatsoever as to what this word should be. The anthropomorphic word is way to long to be used in daily speak, the word must be short and easy to say like furry. |

That was you? I heard about it when it was brought up over at the Eat All Furries community.
Sounds good! I wish it god fortune. I love free art tips, so I'll keep an eye on it. |
