"Power Puff" and "porn" can never be in the same anything...
Not that i'm defending that unwatchable show; but just that this is another pic from an artist who is obsesed with the virginal purity of his coptwrighted characters. |

And he combined in Zig Zag on top of it? Isn't there a law of the universe or God or something that makes this a Bad Taste Transgression of the highest level? Yeesh. |

You'd be supprised... no, no you wouldn't because I'm not of the number of furries who think they should be in porn. That and the character has all the qualities of a Schwartz rip and a Winger original.
I like Winger, at least he is original. |

Can't say I'm a huge fan... especially not after seeing that Sabrina ZigZag entanglement (why God why)... but the guest artist 'JR's stylings from the previous day look vaguely similar to mine, so I suppose not all is lost. |

I like that turn of phrase. It sums everything up so nicely. Nice work, Schmorky. |

JR = Joe Rosales. The guy who does "Wildlifers". |

Oh yeah, thanks (can't believe I missed that). I've seen some of his work in "Hit the Beach" and checked out his site a while ago. Never run across a copy of Wildlifers, but maybe I should check it out. Great skills imho, a bit better than me. It's surprising that he got sucked into Badly Drawn Kitties... though that explains why I didn't make the connection.
BDK... *shudder.* |

I still wonder what's so cool about that Zig Zag character.
Speaking of Zig Zag, I was privileged to witness a hilarious spat on the Max Blackrabbit Yahoo Group between fans of James Bruner's "Zig Zag: The Story" fanfic and regular Zig Zag fanboys. It's a minor furore, but it neatly sums up the attitude of the average fanboy so it might be worth mentioning here...
Briefly, James Bruner's story is a lengthy (and ongoing) fiction about an older, wiser Zig Zag who's done with starring in pr0n flicks, and falls for a manly network technician (who may or may not bear a certain resemblance to the author). Remarkably for fanfiction, it features absolutely no hot hot sex scenes whatsoever, and is mostly concerned with character development and the story of the two leads' relationship. As a fan put it, "Zig Zag is actually shown as a real person, rather than a sex object". Now, whatever your opinion of the character, you must admit this doesn't sound like your average fanfic of any genre.
And the regular ZZ fanboys don't like it, to the extent of sending the author unpleasant emails (including, reportedly, actual death threats). Some of their gripes in the Yahoo Group include "Zig's characterization in the story is very badly off from the way she's shown in Max's own work", "basically just wish-fulfillment", and "she isn't a porn star anymore". And even "...it is a masturbation story, it's just masturbating someone's ego".
So basically, the fact that the character's being represented as other than a cum-guzzling bisexual nymphomaniac who'll do anyone, anywhere, anytime is seen as some kind of insult to creator and fans alike..... go fanboys, go! |

Wow, I'm mentioned on CYD! For the record, I like anthro art and stories but don't consider myself a "furry". :)

I did use bits and pieces of my past and experiences to fill in the background of the male lead but I do not identify myself with him. That is to say the story is not a self-insert fantasy. It's just anthrofiction and nothing more.
Remarkably for fanfiction, it features absolutely no hot hot sex scenes whatsoever
Never had them and never will. There's a long thread about this on my website forum but to sum it up, I think overt sex scenes in writing are unnecessary crutches used by lazy authors.
is mostly concerned with character development and the story of the two leads' relationship.
To me, what made Zig Zag tick was more interesting that what she did so that's what I write about.
Now, whatever your opinion of the character, you must admit this doesn't sound like your average fanfic of any genre. Thanks. :)

I've never received any threats at all. I've received one bad "review" that faulted me for making Zig Zag three dimensional instead of a sex toy about a year ago but most people pass without comment if they don't care for what I write.
Some of their gripes in the Yahoo Group include "Zig's characterization in the story is very badly off from the way she's shown in Max's own work"
I state this clearly in my FAQ, the story outline and several forum posts. It appears that some people don't take the time to research what they're trashing. That's life on the internet for you.
My opinion is what's the point of cranking out more mindless hardcore pr0n? If one is going to take the trouble to write, they should at least try something creative. Right?
"basically just wish-fulfillment"
Hardly. When all is said and done, I realize that Zig Zag is just ink on paper (or pixels on a computer screen). I don't sit around fantasizing about life with Zig Zag because I actually have a real life that doesn't revolve around "furry". It's fun writing for a complex character and that's why I do it.
And even "...it is a masturbation story, it's just masturbating someone's ego". Heh. :) I will admit that it's nice making friends with people around the world who like the story I've written.
So basically, the fact that the character's being represented as other than a cum-guzzling bisexual nymphomaniac who'll do anyone, anywhere, anytime is seen as some kind of insult to creator and fans alike..... go fanboys, go! You can't please all the people all the time.
I got a nice framed piece of fan artwork at Mephit Furmeet last year that Malcolm Earle (Max Black Rabbit) signed. He said: "Thanks for helping me bring Zig Zag to life." If Malcolm likes it then I must be doing something right.
As for the furore, I've made it clear to Malcolm many times that if my story has any negative consequences for him whatsoever, all he had to do was tell me to stop and I would never write another word, no questions asked. Until Malcolm says to stop, I'm going to keep doing what I've been doing.
What's really funny is that I'm trying to get Malcolm to do a PG rated Zig Zag portfolio. That should really stoke the ZZ fanboys' indignation. :) |

Wanna get them to REALLY foam at the mouth (more than usual, anyway)? Ask Naylor for ZZ to make a guest appearence in his comic, where she's talking about the possibility that she may become a born-again and turn the studio into a worship center and conservative meeting place.
Then, buy lots of kevlar, and carry a gun with silver bullets. |

Be that as it may I am still bothered by your comic. This could be any number of special reasons:
1. I'm a jerk |

Sorry for the confusion but I write the Zig Zag story referenced by Mitch. Matt Scherer is the man behind BDK. |

Oh my god...
I dont even know what to say
Im just getting a kick out of imagining some stereotypical zig zag fan reading the story and getting all pissy and ..GRRR .. and storming off to write an angry email "I CANT EVEN JERK OFF TO THIS!! WTF IS THIS?!?!"
the fact that death threats may have been involved make it even more funny.
Oh yeah, that reminds me: hey Wayd, please tell me you saved some of those fursuiter's email death threats you and your wife recieved after anthrocon. |

I hope you succeed; that would be something I'd be happy (and relatively unembarrassed) to plunk down my dollars for.
On a similar tack...
I used to draw WB-flavored cartoony furry stuff before I kinda hung it up due to chronic elbow injury, corrective surgery, and general apathy. After seeing reams of drawings of Zig Zag shamelessly enticing other fans' characters to become porn stars and/or doing the casting-couch conga, I've been tempted to dust off my nerdy little skunk alter-ego and draw him into a scenario where ZZ gently (or not-so-gently) suggests that he just hasn't got "it" and flatly turns him down for a roll in the hay. Just to see what kind of reaction it'd get. |

At the time, I was still very much head in the clouds with furry thinking there weren't that many bad creatures in it and the nastiness and evil of some of it made me sick to my stomach with a kind of raw bloodthirtsy hatred I hadn't felt in a long time. I deleted all of the e-mails and that began my education in how sick and depraved some of the individuals in furry can be.
I've since heard the bulk of it began on a fursuiter mailing list. |

Well, ain't that a hoot!I'm scrabbling down here to make ends meet, and Eric is being his usual"humble"self..I've always loved how certain fanboys gush about their moral stances(then bog off to catch the latest fuzzy boob parade)Dear Jah,when will an old soviet piece of space junk,or an armoured car with bad breaks hit that worthless piece of shmutz?I'm sorry folks, but between Herr Schwartz's convieniant morality and his meddling with other fans and artists..wellIt's hard to be forgiving..as the old hippy said"Th' cat's karma is gonna run over his dogma".All my best to the gang here (Jerry) |
