whenever i've looked at anime convention picture galleries or whatever.. one of the things going through my mind is, "well at least fursuiters hide their bitch-ass ugly faces and bodies under cute animal costumes" |

OMGKAWAII I WANNA YIFF TEH CHIK TING!!!1
*shudder* I went to an anime con once.. for every cute girl cosplaying there were an infinite number of fat, ugly geekboys dressed as Sailor Moon.
There were about 50 cosplayers...
So let'sdo the math, shall we?
1/infinity = 50/x*infinity 50/1 = 50, so x=50
50*Infinity=infinity, so number of cute girls=1/infinity 1/infinity=0 (rounded)
so cute girls at this anime convention = 0
My math may be screwy but the final yield is right, I think.
I love sophmoric attempts at seeming 'intelligence' ^_^ |

I live 'round DC, and I can tell you, during Katsucon, we went to eat in Alexandria (where KC was being held), and I had to stop at a drugstore to get some cold remedies (real bad cold), I saw a man. A very scrawny asian man. In a tight sailor-fuku. SCAAAAAAARY! |

As near as I can tell, he's saying:
"WAhhahahahahaah Furry is no too bad! (WTF? This line makes no sense to me..)
I live in japan, and most of the population here is a mass-media driven cesspool of drooling, braindead slugs, much to my dismay. (I believe this choice of words most accurately describes the thought he was attemtping to get across.)
At least furries (on this part he is sadly mistaken) do not delve to the levels that my fellow Japanese do whilst at these conventions."
BTW: I'm atleast 95% sure that this person is not actually japanese, and is faking it.
*edit* Another thought, after rereading it, the second half of the second sentence could be read as "These con goers are a mass-media driven cesspool of drooling, braindead slugs, much to my dismay." |

You should try going. Hell, Otakon is more fun.
Take a look at these:

The pictures are rather large, since I didn't process these for abuse later. If I ever get FreakStalker off the ground I'm going to be using them for the first couple postings. |

Anyway, as I was saying, anything in between the quotation marks is my interpretation of the higly unintelligible post by the person that I'm assuming is from Japan. it was asked that it be translated so I gave it my best shot. Sorry for any confusion this might have brought upon you.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going back to looking for winger-pr0n :p |

Me: Your translation is accurate!!!! I was hesitating in being objective.
DatdudeGil says: “BTW: I'm atleast 95% sure that this person is not actually japanese, and is faking it.”
Me: I’m not faking. Everybody sees these things but don’t have pluck up to say about. 8) |

Oh well. At least with a gut like that, your cosplay selections are limited to playing Strongbad (although Strongsad might be more likely for that clown).
Just glad he didn't think he was a Sailor Scout beneath all that flab.
(and yes, I have a gut myself. The dif is that I'm aware of it and refuse to cosplay in order to preserve the eyesight & sanity of those around me) |

Datdudegil: Sorry, I thought the quote had ended. Technically, with every new paragraph, you are supposed to put a quote mark, but don't put an end one until the final paragraph.
Yeah, I'm fat, too. But see, I shower (with soap and shampoo, and deodorant *gasp* afterwards), and I don't try to cram my huge (6'3", 250-270ish) body into a sailor suit.
There ought to be a law. |

OMFG! CYD is even pulling in the guys from Asia? KHOUL!
I'd LOVE to hear about any dirt regarding the "kemono" crowd. I hope TRUMP isn't their version of Eric Schwartz. |

Holy Shit.
Also wanting to know more about the "kemono" crowd. For starters, how much like the American furries are they? Do any of them dress up in full mascot costume to have sex, consider their fetish/hobby/preoccupation a full-blown lifestyle or demonstrate the phenomenon known as "Jailhouse Gay"? If so, to what extent? |

Some people like it. Some people can actually get away with it.

Well, considering the guys the come over every year for Further Confusion are really into it, even owning their own monster suits (which are actually pretty damned cool), I think the Japanese furry fans are taking things even farther then US and Euros could. |

I would have to assume a bright, shiny, happy yes on all counts, given the extremes that japanese people tend to take most things to, but I'll get cracking on actual research ASAP.
Oooh, I get to lookit japanese pervy fur pr0n, w00t! *fapfapfap*

I think he meant Anime and Furry
In which case I'd say that statement holds very true.
There are also these 'ugly conventions' apperently being held at Wal-Mart everytime I go there, I dunno what thats all about. |

Depends on how you want to define the pathetic. In sexual terms there is a lot pathetic on both sides. In furry you get guys who are so geeky and socially maladjusted that they have to turn to screwing each other because no woman will even look at them without laughing. In anime you have women who are so sick of the maladjusted geeks that they turn to drooling over gay men. On both sides you get a couple metrosexuals like myself who are straight and take decent care of themselves and it throws the balance off.
Rather insane. |

I have this pleasant little daydream that the way to causing the ultimate destruction of the entire world would be to forcibly dress every male in furry out of the International Male catalog thus causing such a massive reality whiplash that everything grinds to a halt. It's probably the fact that they'll never look that good on purpose that keeps the universe operating, sadly.
Damn. I missed the Greek Key Cannes Suit. |

Okay, just wanna be sure. Some people seem to think there's no difference between the furries who post on AFF and the people who post here, as if CYD-ers are still closet furries that are in denial.
Which reminds me to ask; how much for a commission of Foxy/Purple/Stile in a 3-way S&M and erotic piercing snuff orgy scene?

I think Hobart's art is funny, really. He can draw what he wants on his own board. He has the right to. It's "parody."

(Dammit, no monocle here.) I think Hobart is a bit of a one trick pony, or maybe a half-trick pony. Regardless, his 'sticking it to the man' attempts are so transparent, you can almost see through his opaque flesh.
I'm a bit suprised about Nani; I'd like to say I'm sure he meant no ill will, but fuck if I know. I just think he's a funny and decent oekaki artist.

That's not gonna anger him, BUT THIS ANGERS ME.
That didn't anger me as much as it made me vomit up my brain as it attempted to escape the vicinity. |

ha! actually, I just counted and I've been to 19 anime cons (i'm in the biz of selling geeky products :) ). while there are a large amount of horrid looking geeks who make unwatchable attempts at costumery, I will contend that there are quite a large number of attractive females who cosplay at them (as opposed to the 1 or 2 that dress up at any given furry con). Also, a good 40-50% of any anime con attendance is under 18, and I find no problems with kids having fun dressing up. Of those over 18, a huge percentage of them are just college kids, usually 1) the 'alternative' crowd from art schools or 2) theater/drama majors who love costumes. I give lots of "acting crazy" leeway to people of those ages. The very small amount of older adults that weren't dealers or guests seemed like normal folks, not maladjusted morons like furries I've met - who are mostly geeky male adults with the minds and attitudes of children. I think this is probably the major difference between the 2 types. Call me crazy, but the last time I was at a furry con it was mostly male adults 20s-50s, not children and college kids. At anime cons, I'll sometimes see a middle-aged man in a sailor fuku but they are rare and half of THEM are just doing it as a joke or a promotional gimmick.
Just yesterday I was at the store and I read an EGM magazine (if you don't know, it's a very popular mainstream video game magazine) which had an article where seanbaby went to a cosplay event. He went with the full expectation of making fun of them but by the end of the article he says they aren't so bad and some of the girls were hot. But in the middle of the article he mentions seeing fursuits and makes a comment about how they'll probably be used for disgusting sex acts later. Further cementing my own belief that cosplayers may be weirdos but probably 5 times less horrible than furries and fursuiters. Both are strange people, but IMO it's apples and oranges, and one group is definitely freakier than the other. Heh, i've been dealer and attendee at both types of cons, anime and furry. but hell I'd rather gawk at female ass than old man ass with a dirty tail attached. |

Whoa dude,
everything thats 'wrong' in furry fandom has an anime fandom counter-part. In fact half of the fucked up shit in furry fandom is because half of the furries are anime fans too and they repeat something they saw over there. They are practically the same fandom
But my biggest complaint against anime fans is that half these people think they are somewhow culturally elite now because they watch japanese cartoons. I was in a book store one time and I was looking at some manga book, and I was having a hard time figuring out where to start reading or how to hold it. And suddenly, I was terrified some manga nerd was going to see me trying to read this fuckin thing backwards. |

I don't know where you get that deduction from.. but I'm not saying anime fans are squeaky clean, they have the same issues that furry fandom does with their rancid geeks and the hentai and all that. but cosplayers is made up of very young people.. kids basically. the average age of a cosplayer is like 17/18 or so. so I think with that in mind their behavior is acceptable. We are talking about cosplayers here - and conventioneers. lots of older anime fans just don't go to cons from my observance. The ones that do keep a rather low profile. A select few dress up but it's so rare it's not such a big deal. But furry cons are overrun by a whole different type of person - age and gender. compare a 15-16 yr old girl in an animated character costume with a 33 year old man in a teddy bear costume who's jonesing for another dude in a dog costume. which is weirder? the girl is a kid, she likes cartoons, big deal. but the man, that's a whole different ball game. that's not representative of every single person from each culture but it's a generically true observation from both areas. I think those anime cosplayers have a screw loose somewhere and I think they are waaay too obsessed with cartoons but frankly I find it way less disturbing considering they're just kids. cosplay culture has been overrun by high school girls. furry is a bunch of middle aged men. when i walk into a convention of either type, that is the first difference I see. that's why i say it's apples and oranges.
and again I'm talking about cosplaying, not anime and furry in general as fandoms. if you wanted to talk about THAT, well, you might as well lump trekkies and everyone else into the same pot, they all are the same. although IMO, furry fandom is still stranger than most others just based on the idea that furries actually believe they are animals. That's like, taking it a whole new level of fucked up beyond just liking animation. |

I don't see the difference between this and furry. Same level of pathetic.
Pretty much.
Though anime fandom is centered around something just slightly less aberrant. Anime can boast about stuff like Akira, Princess Monoke and Jin-Roh. Furry has... Um...
I'll have to get back to you on that one.
Still, the fans are just as bad. The anime club at the community college I've been going to is a host of monsters that are easily as bad as, perhaps worse, than the average unclean furfreak. None of the Japanese students go anywhere near these people, if you can even call them people. |

Hilarious, i know what you're talking about. I was in an anime club that was full of these folks. all guys, all old, all very unclean and scary. I've been part of anime for a long time, there was a time that this was the ONLY kind of anime fan. yikes.
funny though, i just don't see many of them at the conventions.
It's as if they know they won't fit in, or perhaps they are too reclusive and disgusting to take part in something that kids and cute girls are running around at.
interestingly, there are some cons that these guys do go to, or at least you see a ton more of them than you normally would. probably has something to do with whoever is organizing each con. i tend to end up at the very social and hip younger ones. i keep hearing that certain cons are "party cons" and others are "fan cons". I dunno, i just make my xtra money off fans. |

The only thing, viron, I was going to add here is that
yeah, while the fat/old stereotype is funny and Ive never been to a furry con (nor do I intend to go to one) - still a vast majority of the furries I run into are younger than me , and I going to be 23 in a month. I think whats going on is that the more high profile and more fucked up furries are way more visible and they tend to be older.
Since furry fandom has a lot of ways people can indentify with the fandom, this is why you have like for ex. a 15 year old furry fan, who doesnt go to cons or anything, but is always on furry muck or IRC or whatever.
Statistically, most of furry fandom (WAY over 50% im sure) is under the age of 26. |

This thread, is sad, but true.
I can tell many horror stories, but it's close to when I hit the sack, and I don't want nightmares all night.
(Yes, I've seen some scary ones) |
