Jesus fuck. I mean, yeah, he's competant, but he's still too Anime for my liking. Then again, I do have odd tastes.
I thought I was doing well when I sold my ASB set for $150 (Cost me $25 in '01). Currently, I've got almost 60 Genus up there and it's only ~$100. :(
It feels rather cleansing to be getting rid of the stuff - that, and paying the bills is a bit of a pre-requisite.

Sketchbooks are where the real money is at. I never really spent a long time drawing each page. I just scribbled out some doodles, anything that came to mind, and then sold the book. My NC-17 books went for $200 and my G-rated books would only go up to $50.
ha ha... Still refuse to go back to porn though. |

I'm starting to understand the lure of the furry porn...
Shmorky, how many individual drawings would there usually be in each sketchbook? And the sketchbook itself, would that just be one of those cheap, blank-paper, hardbound, made-in-China things or would it have to look fancy and expensive? |

I used 5 x 8 inch books. Those cost less than four bucks. |

GM's a good artist? But $1200 plus?? Geez! For that, GM should come to your house in a French Maid outfit and give you a mindblowingly good blowjob as well!
It's filthy-rich retards like the bidder that make artists think they can make crazy mad cash for their "art" and charge insane-o prices. |

Actually, I seem to remember a commission recently by “soapuppy” or someone like that, which, despite the artist admitting that they don’t draw very good backgrounds and would rather not have one in the picture, still went for over $500.
I was rather astonished that someone would hand over $500 to an artist who by their own admission didn’t do backgrounds very well. |

David, check out PaintedKaffe's auctions on FurBid. She wants, as a buy it now, $60-80 for some really badly rendered drawings with no backgrounds. |

Wtf? Part of me wonders how on this green and blue earth, somebody could get that much for a bunch of sketches (unless you're R. Crumb or something), and another part of me wants to start drawing gay male furry-boy prOn and selling it for the big bucks.... if this is the skill level that's needed, I'm more than there. Hmmm... crisp green dollars to pay the rent... oh wait, I'd have to live with myself... never mind. |

Well, Shmorky has been hearkened upon more than one occasion to reminiscent of a young R. Cru-*gets bludgeoned thoroughly before he can finish the all too ovious end of this statement* |

WTF!?!?!
I just looked now and one “latinvixen” had an auction going for over $600.
Again, the caveat attached to the auction was “simple or no backgrounds”
The medium used was markers.
Now, I respect the fact that this “latinvixen” seems to have fairly reasonable skill at rendering anatomy.
But I mean, I just can’t get my head round this mentality which is prepared to pay $600 for pictures done in markers without a background.
I just don’t understand this lack of backgrounds, to me, A picture without some form of background is just a sketch or a warm up or summat.
FOR GODS SAKE! WILL NO ONE THINK OF THE BACKGROUNDS!?!?!?! |

I tell you, pornography(or similar to hentai), sell for large amounts of $$$.
Only a very few of the furry artists do this. |

Point...there's one artist I loath, she's arrogant and unable to do anything but the same stuff by rote, all her heads look alike, but they lap it up at $150 a time because she does porn..... :? |

I see no problem on certain pieces of art reaching high prices in a certain market. I already confessed I'm a diecast car collector, and thus I sometimes find auctions where people pay incredible prices for a mere piece of metal.
Besides the objective price of a certain object (the price of paper and usage of pens and other consummables, or even the time you work in that piece) there's a subjective price for many things. For instance, you can get almost the same feelings you can get on a Ferrari with an Acura NSX and thus pay a fraction of what you'd have to pay for a Ferrari, but a Ferrari "is a Ferrari". Or a Porsche: I recently heard that the real cost of building a Porsche is only the 40% of its price (taxes apart); the rest is benefits. Those people buying Porsches are paying that high simply 'cause it's a Porsche.
Furry fandom is an established market, and, like in any market, certain people is willing to pay over a thousand dollars for something in particular not because their objective value but the reputation surrounding the artist in particular, etcetera.
The saddest part is that, in furry fandom, these prices are only reached when you draw erotica, or, more specifically, pornography. In my particular case, should such an interest exist for less sexual stuff, I would probably be willing to take part on it, but the terrible side-effects that drawing erotica could have to me and my (stalling) career as an artist, I prefer to leave it beside and try other venues, even if they're much less profittable.
In conclusion: I don't mind if people pay that much for furry art. I do mind, and worry, about people paying that much for pornographic furry art. |

What? her success at pissing me off? no it's more a case of she lied about me and basically told a lot of people some very nasty things about me....besides I don't see why I should be jealous seeing as I'm like ten times more skilled artwise than her though I'm still not a good as I want to be. That and she's got a ego like you wouldn't believe, even threw a tantrum over some guy because she thought he had copied her...strange I didn't know it was possible for someone to hold the copyright on dragons holding cards.... |

Robbeye “Quelyntr wolfcomet” Nicholson used to have a website and a gallery on “elfwood”.
Both are gone.
I don’t know how good you have to be have a gallery on elfwood though but this was one of the only two images of hers I could find and it’s about 2 years old:
http://darokthedragon.free.fr/images/darko%20sun.jpg
The picture is too dark, But after lighteing it in PSP by 44%, It looks like a passable "digital painting" to me.
She's done some art trades, for example with "Bloodhound Omega" who described her as "talented" but that doesn't always mean much judged on the circumstances.
In the words of "drakkor":
"she had a nice "dragon-mascott" called Cyrus on her web site and that I loved. So because she wanted to sale one naughty original of Cyrus (check it here), I decided to buy it."
Picture (NOT WORKSAFE!) is at:
http://www.drakkor.com/guestart022.html
Again, The picture was drawn in 2002.
That's all I could dig up on her. |

Those disappeared because she's paranoid about people copying her, even accused one person of copying her for having a similiar pose, like there's really a lot of poses for snarling lupine quadrapeds to take, and she yanked her website after I resurfaced, not really sure why....
Nowadays she does a few auctions on furbid..otherwise she's pretty quiet except for the stink she kicked up a few months back because I resurfaced on a board and she tried unsuccessfully to get me kicked off it.... |

I really, really, really, have to find the time to finally draw the fabuolous "Great Yiff Beast"
I have actually managed to mentally conceptualize it. Now, will someone Puh Leaze Dump a quart of Drano into my brain!
Ummm.. Sulaco, there are folks out there who do not think with their wangs.
To borrow a line from "Fiddler on the Roof", "If I were a rich man..."
You would be stunned by the concepts I would offer up for commissioning.
A thousand dreams, a thousand wonders, a thousand possiblities. A simple one, From John Denver's song "Whalebones and Crosses"
An arctic fox morph in inuit garb, harpoon in hand, head bowed before a cross under an arch of whalebone ribs that soar out of
white and pale blue ice and snow
scupled by the wind.
Above him, in the black arctic sky, the aurora
flows a spooky banner.
And that is just one of the wild ideas I nurture.
Ya' just got to wonder, don'tcha..
OTOH, when I think of Jerry Collins Latex Bamboids, look at my latest Women in Waders calender...
But we just won't go there.Anything is possible when you're dealing with people who only think with their wangs. |
