I remember that, not too far ago, Shawntae Howard posted a message on alt.fan.furry entitled "Crush Yiff Destroy: Losers of 2003". Even although he confessed he did it just to troll a little, I'm still amazed at how some people perceives CYD.

I also have heard that posting on CYD is becoming a clique for furries. It looks like the only thing we do here is bitching and moaning about how evil furries are. I don't know if I'm right, but that's my perception.

This forum is the liveliest part of the site. Many people come and go, and some people stay. I think I'm among the latter. I come here and discuss several issues with the people around, most of the times furry-related, and prefer to avoid political issues.

I'm not going to hide the fact that I have a critical approach towards furry fandom, but I always try to reason my positions and expose why I don't feel attracted to it. I have no problems to speak about those things with those who define themselves furry and visit this forum with frequence. And I have seen the same attitude among some other frequent posters on this forum

So then, what makes CYD so terrible for some furries? Why there is such a "CYD Clique" that makes Howard wonder if "is there a larger group of flamers on the net than these 7 or so guys?"

Really? There's a lot of posts about the weird things people in the fandom have done, but I don't think anyone has actually described furries as evil, apart from maybe a couple of comments regarding Cub Central and all that.

In my experience any criticism of any aspect of furry, no matter how mild, is sure to get some folk all het up. And more than two folk singing from the same sheet is surefire evidence of organized fursecution ;)

As for Shawntae, he seems a little hotheaded now and then, and the caricatures that Jerry Collins sent me and which I put up on the site, some of which poked fun at Eric in a fairly robust way, annoyed him quite a bit judging by his reactions

as a rather recently new CYDer, I have to say that I haven't seen very much in the way of 'furries are evil', more of, 'furries do some really odd things that are pretty goddamned funny.' I don't think I'd be here if this were an all-out "destroy teh furryz!" atmosphere. It lets me poke fun at my own fandom and I find that quite amusing.

You mean it takes more than two? Hell, i thought just one was surefire fursecution thses days :P

Btw: I, so far, have not felt the effects of the 'scritch of death', as when i point this site out to my furry friends (who happen to consist mostly of a chunk of the Fatalis Toon Talk board members from about two years ago, yeah, I was a bad little per(fur?)vert at one point.) They seem more amused than anything, and at least one has joined the forums, if to do nothing more than keep himself as amused as I am. (One Scott Ferguson, more commonly known as Foo)

Dear God, that's a lot of quotes and parentheses. (oh yeah I scewed up that spelling, anybody care to correct that?)

Eh, you most likely eventually will; but you'll find those of higher intelligence and at least some sense of self-esteem don't mind having a bit of fun poked at them, even if it is (only partially) true.

On the whole, most furries realize that it's a fetish, and it's odd. Granted, you get all levels, from those who just like drawing cartoons to those that dream of being sodomized by a hermaphrodite fox-dragon. The deeper the rabbit hole goes, the funnier, and scarier it can be.

I like to refrain from saying "most furries are..." and follow it up with anything that lets them off the hook. The small percentage of total asshole scumbags would be irrellevant if it wasn't for "most furries" who either give them a pass with refusal to deal with them, worse yet cloak their existance with excuses and denials, or altogether encourage them through the above plus active stoking of their diseased mentalities.

Hyperdysfunctional dumbshits are at record levels in furry and kept that way by a much much larger group of relatively normal if eccentric folks who turn a blind eye to the problem.

They remind me of people here in the US who after terrorists blow the shit out of a few thousand innocent people want to turn around and embrace the killers, when common sense says sooner or later they'll be next. Extremely obvious self-destruction through embrace of those dragging your whole existance down seems to be a fairly common theme in human affairs. Excuse me, hyooman affairs.

Wah!

We're not evil, we're just misunderstood. :)

eh, you make fun of people, they'll get upset, it's simple.

as for howard, well, i can understand how he feels. it seems that there are major posters here who post a whole lot, and they seem to be the same few folks over and over. I think that is reason of the perception that it is a small group. I personally think that's just because some people are more talky than other - big deal.... Despite the fact that there's quite a large membership over here and over at EAF as well as other splinter groups out there that dislike furries. In my travels online and in the real world, I have met more than a huge share of people who don't like furries and a whole ton of people who have real, personal vendettas against furry fandom for whatever reason. and interestingly a lot of those peoples have good, valid reasons, too. furries would be wise to understand that this isn't just "a few people" and also understand why their actions are causing people to dislike them so much. It's not because of them doing "funny" things, it's because of their bad attitudes and what that does to affect them and everyone around them.

Does this mean we're cool?

And why the hell does Computolio get all the glory? I mean, don't get me wrong. He does a lot here. He's one of the prime movers and shakers of CYD. But it is Mitch's site. And there are a lot of other folk around here who work darn hard to make CYD whatever it is today. WHERES THE LOVE
