The Sardius Experience is a videogame site that sprouted out up of nowhere to create some absolute must-read material:

• If you read anything, read the Johnny Turbo review. A true story of shitty advertising run amok, it'll have you spouting annoying catchphrases in no time (and one of them IS quite relevant to this site...)

• Also worthy of a look is a work-in-progress feature on shitty cock rock forcibly entered into various innocent Sega CD games.

• Hell, he even makes convention stories interesting.

Anyway, enjoy.

This is actually a pretty good site. The Johnny Turbo thing is making me laugh my ass off (I'm reading it now).

We also called him "Turbo", "Tubbs", "Tubby", "The Licious of Tubbs",
"Tubbalicious" or "Don Chubo". Johnny would always answer to any of these
names.

Okay, it's official: "The Licious of Tubbs" is the greatest fatty nickname ever to grace this earth.

Speaking of video games, here's an intriguing article about an unreleased Sonic the Hedgehog title for the Sega Saturn. Note the sketch of the female lead, who was spared from the ravages of furry Sonic fans by the game's cancellation.

Sweet mother of... Computolio's right.

It hurts to think about how the illistrator slipped so many homoerotic undertones into just a few panels as well as getting them past everyone. Go read the entire Johnny Turbo review.. now.

Damn, that is funny. These look familiar and I might have seen a page or two of these a long time but probably didnt spend much time reading them.

I just can't believe how over the top it all is. Or the tone of desperation to the whole thing how they keep hammering the point that they had CD games first and other information that isnt going to sell the systems. All I remember is that I hated BONK so badly that I never wanted anything to do with the system from the start.

I'll go with the theory this thing was a joke between either the division handling the ad campaign (No idea how large of a company this was) or several of the people involved got the artists and whoever involved to try slipping of that stuff in as a joke and seeing if it would go out like that. If a company was in that bad of financial shape, it might have (and obviously did) slip by. What with people worrying about thier jobs and everything. Cool story either way. Its gotta be cool to later find out a stupid character from an older advertisement is real , and all the other stuff they found.

Also, was the NeoGeo by the same company, TTI? the games for that were what, over $200 apiece and the system was like $400, maybe even more? It was ridiculous. I distictly remember even as a kid getting sticker shock looking at those.

I vaguely remember needing a new set of drawers after taking a look at the price myself.

Thank dog I went SNES.

Oh, c'mon- Bonk wasn't bad. At least, the game was a passable system mascot/pack-in.

The Neo Geo was made by SNK. It was primarily an arcade hardware platform, and as an arcade system it was among the most successful in history (the final few games for it came out only just recently).

The reason for the immense price of the home version was that it was essentially the arcade machine repackaged to hook into a TV. It was never intended to compete with the 16-bit systems of the time; it was primarily marketed as a toy for the rich.
