There are SOME people involved with this whole "Furry" thing that are pretty cool.... as in "functional" and "able to cope with reality"...... for the most part.....

Anyway, thought I'd name a few of them;

Albert Temple
(his comics are a little heavy-handed sometimes, but otherwise a nice guy... perhaps TOO nice...)
Scotty Arsenault
(as far as I know, his only vice is ice-cream sandwiches... but hey, at least it ain't that "Nutella" crap)
David Simpson
(*sniff* our little hippie is growing up)
Amy Pronovost
(though I suppose she makes up for it with her "Star Wars" obsession... still, I wouldn't mind seeing HER in a "slave Leia" getup... ROWR-ROWR!)

Anyone I'm forgetting?

I don't think that drawing a nice Vehn diagram of 'ok', 'so-so', and 'bad' really defines CYD, personally.

I've got friends who are furries, and friends who are ex-furries; as well as a shitload who don't know/don't care/don't want to know.

I find that this seems to go against the general premise of CYD; it's not that CYD hates you, your favorite spooge artist, or your choice of lifestyle. It's more of the 'You do something stupid, we will call you on it'. That's what makes this Anti-CYD and the self-persecution (sorry, FURRRsecution) so sad and hilareous.

If I really need to define a few artists, or otherwise 'known' folks in/out of the fandom, I'd have to say my favorites are: Shmorky, Donotsue, and Ken Singshow. Shmorky's fucked in the head, in a good way - in an amusing way. He's also a rather prolific artist who doesn't suck. Donotsue - he's a good friend, and he's an excellent artist, even if he insists on showing me his pigs. Ken? He's just a nice guy.

Part of the theme of CYD, in my perception, is also that we can laugh at ourselves for having been part of the lunacy to varying degrees at one point in time. Hell, some of us may still be part of that. What defines the furries mocked versus the CYD folks IMO is not really the level of furryness/furry-but-cool/nonfurryness, but that we can laugh at ourselves regardless of furry factor. We recognize it as a hobby... not something that shapes and molds our identity. We're not furry... we just enjoy furry stuff.

My brother is much more into furry stuff than I am these days. His boyfriend and some of his friends are fursuiters, and he goes to cons. In fact, some of you may know him or his art, but I'm not going to identify him to respect his anonymity. He's got a few traits I think are problematic of furries... but.. that's stuff he's gotta work out for himself. So, I don't hold it against him.

My wife was having a bad day the other day... lots of people out an about pissing her off. She only knew of furry through me.. but, she said, "If I was my zebra character, I'd have my ears flat against my head." I didn't say "OMG... furry.. not cool!" Nah... we all know there's plenty of folks that really enjoy it that are cool.

Anyway, while we're dropping names of folks that may have some fame but don't seem to be one of furrydom's problem children, a fellow by the name of Kobus (Sonny Windstrupp? Something like that) always struck me as decent, though I only knew him online.

Amy Pronovost

I've lived with her in a share-house. She can be decribed as a "Professional Mask Wearer"--- that is, she puts a substantial amount of time and effort into a manufactured personality that everyone likes, but after hours, she's a spiteful, xenophobic, untrustworthy creep.

How many times are we going to have to go over this? I believe we already established that WE DON'T HATE EVERY SINGLE FURRY IN TEH WORLD a long time ago. This is beginning to turn into a "the lady doth protest too much" sorta situation. By this point, if there's anyone out there who still thinks CYD is a blanket hate site, let them. We've already done more than enough hand-wringing around here to disabuse people of that notion.

I'm not fixing The New Meat's double post, since it's something important enough to be said twice.

Heh. When I first came to this site, I wasn't entirely sure what to think of it. It did seem to be a bit hateful, but I didn't exactly think it was a blanket-hate. For one, most of the articles and drawings focused on specifics segments of furrydom, or specific people (IE, Eric W. Schwartz, Brian O'Connell, Steve Martin, etc.). For another, upon reading through the threads, I noticed that a number of people here are not militantly anti-furry. Rather, they let their opinions mingle with each other in meaningful (if perhaps occasionally sarcastic and, at times, mean-spirited) discussion, and seem to be open to alternative views. This is in stark contrast to what you'd find in some places (places that I don't go to often in the furry sense, usually), where flaming seems to be the order of the day and mandatory.

I'd have to say that I am a furry hobbyist. I do not fursuit, although my mother has suggested that I might be built right for one. (If I did fursuit, I'd probably do something that was either rather silly or was rather realistic - nothing erotic, that just kind of ruins it for me.) I do not dress in silly outfits for furrydom, nor do I feel a need to. I keep a lot of my furry conversations, erotic or otherwise, STRICTLY to the realm of Online, rather than bring these interactions to real life. (I've found it a bit disturbing that people would willingly have sex while imagining they were animals...they may like it, but I don't think I would.)

Well, that's just my two cents on this little line. You don't need to agree with me if there's something not right. *snicker* So long as we can all have a good laugh over it, I'll be happy.

Personally, I think this site has some good points on it and some good arguments. I had no idea that entire webrings and sites were devoted to non-sexual furry stuff until I saw CYD (hell, I nearly didn't click on the link when looking at the name as I thought it would be some weird fetish site involving squashing things until someone told me otherwise ;)).

I'm not sure if Scotty Arsenault would qualify as a furry by now.
Back in 2002, when his online comic Commander Kitty was one of the most popular comics on the net, he posted this message to a comics-related forum:
what's wrong with furries?

I have no idea. Everytime I sit down and contemplate this thing, it gives me a headache. I'm at the point now where I really and honestly don't care what anyone calls my work. I used to be really into it all.. I administered yerf.com for a couple years, and went to the conventions. I think it was the conventions that soured me on the whole 'community' thing. After going to one of them, and actually communing with the community, you realize you're wasting your life if this is all you hope to accomplish. Being the best furry artist is like being the nuttiest turd in the bog. Now me, yeh, I still draw animal characters, but to me, it's a comic first, and whatever else second. Concentrating too much on the furry angle is... something that.. is a bad thing..
I'm no good at rants. Somebody else take it from here. Hockey is starting. The end.
