The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund warns that a recent bill introduced in the House of Representatives could give parents the power to sue anyone disseminating any media containing "material that is harmful to minors."

H.B. 4239, also called the "Parents’ Empowerment Act," would allow the parent or guardian of a minor to sue in federal court anyone who knowingly disseminates any media containing "material that is harmful to minors" if the material is distributed in a way that "a reasonable person can expect a substantial number of minors to be exposed to the material and the minor, as a result to exposure to the material, is likely to suffer personal or emotional injury or injury to mental or moral welfare." The bill has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee.

Cool. Soon we will sue the entirety of the American school system right out of existance. Right after FOX, CBS, NBC, ABC, Sci-Fi, History Channel, History Channel International, PAX, Golf Channel, Food Network, MTV, and everything else in the freaking country that anyone finds in any way objectionable.

It might be easier to simply hand out paring knives to all and sundry and declare the beginning of Armageddon. And less expensive. As it is, I wish I'd been a lawyer.

This part here actually might be a tall order. Then again ..maybe not.

If this thing got passed im sure you would see cases pop up all over the place though, people just trying to get money.

I would say something 'on topic' about this affecting furry porno comics, but with the pitiful sales figures, a lawyer might have trouble finding a copy. with most of a print run being bought up by rabbit valley and "furry stores", and distributors misplacing shipments...Its not like these things are even getting into stores

I think at its current print run: only every other comic shop in the country can get ONE single copy of an issue of Genus, if they even want it.

Im sure the vigilante soccer moms thing would be going on..but still - I'm sure even these soccer moms would actually HOPE for thier kids to be exposed to something "damaging" for the chance to get big money cash settlements in court.

This just seems like a law for people who want to cover their own asses when little Timmy decides to break the law.

Guy that sells dope down the road.

Welcome to America where no one except you is at fault, I and my family (the victims) are infallible. Because you are; The Stranger. And it's just so much easier to point the finger at you, an unknown face, than myself.

IMO, people (in america atleast) have a huge problem with accepting responsability for their actions(or lack there of). But pass a law like that..?
