I've never been to a furry convention (and to be honest, I have no real desire to go to one). I do however, like to keep an open mind about things and am interest in what one is really like, both the positive and negative aspects of it and how it might seem to someone that has never really gotten into the scritching stuff and such and has no interest in wearing a 'fursuit' and simply enjoys anthro art, prefering to keep the adult stuff to a minimum and even then staying away from really explicit stuff and prefering not to take it further then tastefull nudity.

nothing happens at furry cons. seriously. if you want to buy stuff, that's cool because they have lots of that. But otherwise it's like they said, a gathering of geeks and nerds who are fatter than usual. some of them are walking around in stupid-ass costumes, but usually only on saturday night. and you will probably not see anything insane or deviant at all unless you seriously go looking for it. you MIGHT see some gay pda but that is discouraged so it doesn't happen as much as it did back when I went years and years ago. You also might see someone in a costume showing too much skin, but that is normal at any geek con. You might see a transsexual type person too, but that's nothing to gasp at, and lots of them you won't be able to tell. There's porn everywhere, and i would say there is more at furry cons than i normally see at other types of cons. on the whole, you will notice people who might seem "off" in a way but it doesn't mean anything if you don't interact with them.

late at night, if you decide to go to a party, there is a chance you will run into something crazy but i think you have to be looking. however, for the most part if you walk into a party they will be drawing, watching tv, talking, or doing any number of absolutely normal activities for geeks. if you are sociable you will have fun.

although i prefer other types of cons, they are way way more exciting than furry cons ever will be. furry cons, IME, are rather uneventful and far from shocking in any way. that's because most furries go to meet their internet friends, not to actually do furry activities. seriously, there's not much furry activity to do. if you were at a trek con at least you would watch star trek or meet celebs or whatever, but furry cons are just.. nothing. maybe a panel on drawing or something, or watching cartoons IF the con has a video room. Then they have the masquerade which is seriously uninteresting and VERY corny. So corny it's intolerable. Then the dances happen, but they are usually not my style. Too much frat/college bar-esque dance music, not ACTUAL dance music like techno/house or similar.

Furry cons, more than any other type of con, are social cons. Lots of yapping and not a lot of doing or any kind of excitement.

I dunno. I just use it as a statement because I find it amusing - it's hardly anything more than that. I haven't had any pie in over a month. :( I also turned down ice cream yesterday.

Most places on the web are pretty international, but it only seems logical that most of them use the main language of the people who set it up or the majority of the users.

After all I wouldn't go to a chinese board, jabber at them in english and expect them to understand or respond in english.

Just to be a dick... Rusty said that - not I. I dunno if I've ever considered myself entirely furry, or entirely not. Honestly, I don't care. I've been spending far less time dealing with anything associated (even here, if you notice), and I've never been more tired. Amazing what happens when you get an actually-taxing job, rather than some shit-shack one. ;)
