Beijing: A sci-fi fan in China has had plastic surgery to give himself ears like Star Trek’s Mr Spock.
The young man astonished surgeons in Nanjing by telling them he wanted alien-like pointy ears.
He told them he was bored with the shape of his ears and wanted to make them a ‘more interesting’ shape.
Plastic surgeons tried to talk the man out of the idea but he was adamant and the operation went ahead, the Yangtze Evening News reported.
Cosmetic surgery has boomed in popularity in China in recent years but the operation in Nanjing is believed to be the first of its kind.
You know, there are idiots in all fandoms. |

I can't help but think that Spock would have words for behavior like this, and they wouldn't be flattering. |

Would they involve the use of "colorful metaphors?" |

I think what he would say is...
Illogical.
Although people trying to individualize themselves too much.
I mean, Fashion trends, peircings, and tattoos are one thing, but EAR MODIFICATION? That's a little extreme. |

As I understood it.. ALL plastic surgery is IN in China rightnow. =)
Usually the girls just try to gain more western looks.
TV doesn't lie...does it? =) |

Yes, but EAR MODIFICATION?!?!? WTF?
Even here that's considered weird by everyone but LotR fanatics and Trekkies.
I don't think it's emulationg western culture, it's just a freaking weird guy getting weirder! |

Im just kinda surprised this is (apperently) the first incident of this.
I mean people nowadays get implants under thier skin...ball bearings and studs and shit to texturize thier skin. Its not all that poplular yet, but I think that it may gain popularity as time goes on. I don't really have anything against it necessairly...it depends on why you are doing it. I think a fucking tv show qualifies as a 'WRONG REASON' though.
In addition to trekkies getting 'spock' ears, I'm surprised elf/fantasy fans haven't done this in that context. Otherkin and whatnot. |

Ok, for some reason that yerpyerp thing strikes me as the creepiest 'fursuit' I've seen since SILFUR (and thank god that wasn't in RL). Please say this was some school project this person HAD to do and but had no talent for. (no, I couldn't have done better myself but I would hope for that realization to keep me from trying) |

I don't think so, but honestly, I have no idea. There was a bullshit story made up to go with the pictures - and no one believed it. Yes, there were more pictures.
I find that it reminds me of that 'rabbit' thing in Donnie Darko. It's... scary, no?
Also, silfur exists. You may now claw your eyes out. |
