Post Modernism is, I have always felt, something that is unfairly maligned today.
Post modernism is not about claiming that SUPERIOR WESTERN SCIENCE is equal to tribal myths about gods making the earth out of cow dung.
Once, it was a given that Chaucer was “better” than almost any other English literature.
And post modernism, instead of saying “yes, this is better than this”, asks WHY do we think it is better than almost any other English literature?
It is about asking WHY we believe what we do.
This means that post-modernist thought is rarely popular since it challenges people’s assumptions and their givens.
Furry fandom, like any other social group creates a consensus and people get upset when this consensus is disturbed.
So, Post modernism is utilised selectively.
One the one hand, some people will embrace the aspect which allows them to criticise The Matrilism of Western Science but balk at the aspect which asks “why do you think you are a magic wolf?"

From Egyptologist David Lorton:
"To begin, I'd like to raise two points. The first is that, although it's put a bit discreetly, the operative image here would seem to be autofellatio. Ancient Egyptian texts state that the creator god Atum (although in this text the sun god Re is standing in for him), created Shu and Tefnut by spitting, or that he created them by masturbating, but it is unusual to combine the two images. This, in and of itself, invites us to contemplate autofellatio. But, the text is not as discreet as it seems in my translation, because there is, I now feel, a problem in what I did with verse 13. There, I rendered, "I had brought my own mouth," which in and of itself makes no real sense in context. This is indeed a literal translation, but there is a rare idiomatic use of the Egyptian word ini "to bring" in connection with an organ of the body, in which it means "to reach out with and use" the organ: thus, "to bring the arm" can mean "to reach out and use" it.
So: god reached out with his mouth and took the end of his penis in his mouth, and he used his mouth. And, helping things along by masturbating with his fist, god ejaculated into his own mouth, and then he spat out the semen as the god Shu and the goddess Tefnut."
Maybe the furries are onto something when they say whatever it is that gives furrydom its essence dates back as far as ancient Egypt. Atum is not one of the "furry" deities, though.. much to their chagrin, I'm sure.

More importantly, "Why do you think you're a magic wolf and criticize the evils of modern technology while using that same technology to criticize it and download pictures of naked magic wolves?"
Seriously, these nuts trash modern society.... usually holding the Celts or Native Americans to be some kind of high and mighty example of the ideal they aspire to.... all from the safety of their air conditioned home behind the keyboard of their computers while watching DVDs of The Lion King and scarfing down Taco Bell burritos and Mt. Dew while checking up the release date for Doom 3 or something. They paint modern society and technology to be so awful, but they couldn't keep themselves busy without it. |
