ok in real life what I see around me in reality, the media the books etc. that are anthromorphic, or with talking animals are targeted to children only..

now on the internet, anthromorphic animals as such and the media are targeted adults only.

most people find something like humaniod animals in sexual or hardcore situation or furverts the most disturbing thing ever seen on the internet.. they say its much worse than human hentai.. normal people say they are a bunch of mentally insane type of people or sick-minded or a bunch of freaks.. i look at their crap because of curiosity.. i got cought looking that that at a school library(sorry for spelling) once.

i'm finding out the reason why furries are doing this is probably because of freedom of speech.. they can do whatever they want.

i am calculating that 25% of the furry fandoms are only clean types as such.. i am seeing more of the dark side of the furry fandom than anything else when it comes to the internet.

prior to the 80s this was not the case as far as im aware, i have seen evidence of it also
bode, speigelman , crumb, all have done anthropomorphic stories [comic format> that are either not appropriate for children or that children wouldnt understand ...also crumb's fritz the cat was made into an animated cartoon (rated R)
im sure there are more examples than these. id throw in reed "omaha" waller but since there is SOME connection to "furry fandom" there, i wont

also to bring anthropomorphic books into it: when you say "targeted at children" any specific age group your refering to ? because some of the books i have read : redwall and one from a long time ago tailchaser's song, wouldnt be right for younger kids (i dont think..)
redwall its seems is for kids , but its basically a war novel and pretty violent too..i think this has become more popular since i read it years ago (i was 17-18) and not sure what age group primarily reads it now

it sometimes seems theres too many pervert furries
well actually, it depend on whether you mean XXX adult or just r - rated "adult"
i have no problem wiht R-rated stuff at all
the only probelm i have with x rated stuff is the sheer plethora of it

and also in some instances its brushes too closely with way too fucked up subject matter (fetishes that i feel cross the line into actual immorality)

and actually this is one reason of many why i hate the internet - its really what ruined furry in a lot of ways (mainly after the WWW really got going) anyone can publish thier shit for almost nothing, and everyone has the opportunity to see it no matter how bad it is
which i know sounds like a good thing, until you are part of a larger group that is having its reputation tarnished by a squad of lunatics

i'm finding out the reason why furries are doing this is probably because of freedom of speech.. they can do whatever they want.

maybe, but that wouldve burned itself out with the first tentacle rape and mutilation pictures...i think its just progressive, as people start looking at ever increasingly fucked up pornography they need more of it
i think theres also a lot of "peer pressure" playing into it
theres always these fads that show up for a while

computolio would be a far better person to ask his opinion about that stuff though, cuz i really dont follow it

i have come to the conclusion that this is almost impossible to measure
because who are you counting ?
artists alone? ok well you can go through all the art sites and start tallying all the artists into one group or the other, then how about how many people are looking at said art for each group...what if one group is just more prolific than the other? what about furries who look at art in differnt venues or involved in other facets of the fandom?
go on furryMUCK and interview EVERYONE?
go to all the conventions and interview everyone/look through everything?
what about when furries set up dealer tables at non-furry conventions?

the reason i bring this up is because there is more to furry than whats on the internet

the main problem (as far as i can see) is that the most fucked up furries are the loudest, and everyone else does nothing , so that it looks like more of them are "furverts" than actually are

what about a "furry" like me , who looks at almost no online art, doesnt go to conventions (yet anyway), doesnt MUCK, doesnt fursuit, has no net presence (other than postings like on here/AFF), hell- i barely have any contact with any other furries
yet i very frequently buy the *paper* comics, with a precious few exceptions, i wont even read comics that arnt "funny-animal" or "furry"

and while 95%+ of what i have is g-pg-r , i do have about 5 or so X-rated furry comics (in case anyones curious: 4 issues of genus, rare breed, and hardiman's collected skunkworks, oh and also the charity one: the tribute to skunkworks)

so i cant say that i look at ONLY clean art but i dont consider myself a "furvert" or any kind of deviant either
i guess it depends on what you mean by "dark side of the fandom"
im just getting the feeling we are drawing that line at different places
