I've just finished the series now and a certain aspect in the show made me think what if this had happened in our future...and how would furries actually respond to this thing.

One particular character I like, has his head replaced with that of a wolf and is genetically altered as punisment for his crimes committed in a certain city, instead of facing jailtime. He's not the only one,all other criminals from that city get the same treatment.....A head of a beast for 100 years,no jail or anything, just the shame they have. :?: :!:

Do you know how many obsessed furries would commit crimes if this had in reallife happened??

That bugged me when I watched the show and though of those wishing to look like their favorite animal.

So, all they'd have to do is make sure to only use the heads of "undesirable" animals...

Like pigs, walruses, tapirs and the like.

First off, lemme say I fucking love that show.

Anyway, to correct you, they were altered as well as recieving jail time. The whole rule to that prison was if anyone recieved a jail time of (I think) 100 years or more, they were genetically altered so their head would resemble a beast (a symbolic shame kinda thing). The guys with the beast heads in that show were escapees and illegal immigrants.

I found it funny that in the show, being turned into an anthromorph was a punishment meant to inflict shame. I smell a parallel with reality....

Great or not, the name disturbs me.

Like "FENCE HOPPER 2045 YUKIYAMATORI" would.

I've only seen it a couple of times it's aired on MTV. Is it somewhat letterboxed or something? When MTV shows it, it seemes a bit skewed vertically and things look kind of stretchy.

Like "FENCE HOPPER 2045 YUKIYAMATORI" would.

The "Heat Guy" part makes sense, since he has to vent his excess heat once in a while and stuff. I wonder if he was dubbed "J" as something of a pun, making "Guy J" kind of similar to gaijin, as he is a foreigner, being a robot in a city where robots are not allowed. I'm probably just adding 2 and 2 and getting ORANGE.

In Transmetropolitan there are people who get genetically altered (or whatever) so they are were-wolves. Basically they can just become regular looking wolves for periods of time. So in the comic sometimes you see people in thier wolf-form fucking on the sidewalks and in public places. (Its a crowded dystopian future)

Its been around a little while tho I only have the collected books 1+2. I checked real quick and couldn't find it. At least not with a description of what was going on. Im sure theres someone lurking around somewhere who has read and understands way more of it than I have.

Transmetropolitan, its humorous most of the time or supposed to be. Most of the stuff they have created in there I find more fascinating than anything else. To me, most of the stuff - in the context of the future they've created makes perfect sense.

I could see all kinds of people doing weird shit like that if the technology was there. The main group that modifies themselves (from what I've read of the thing so far) is transients. They are turning into aliens. They look like 'greys' roswell-style aliens. Most of them are only half transformed so they are freaks and are treated like a sub-class of people. The book being written the way it is tends to have you feel sorry for them while simulataneously heavily criticizing them for doing what they did in the first place.

Maybe somewhere in the back of their mind, furries that hope body mods will be a reality in their lifetime fully comprehend that it will basically put them in the same category as folks with 100 rings in their face. While the folks that tend to be into the tattooing and piercing are typically fully cognizant of the social views of what they enjoy, and seem to laugh at themselves quite readily, it kind of seems many furries would use body mods to reinforce their martyr complex. Many of them seem to want to stand out and be picked on.

The "furry" anime I don't quite get is Wolf's Rain. Do they actually transform, or is the human appearance an illusion (kind of like humans who don't believe in unicorns simply seeing a horse as in The Last Unicorn) or what? I'z confuzzled.

It's just that...what humans see is humans, not wolves...

Another science fiction novel regarding biotechnology and the uses for it, be it legit, illegal, perverted, or otherwise is "Slant".

It's ok, sometimes it drags on, but overall, it does bring to light what bio and nano technology may bring.

Mouse, if you want, I can mail it to your house if you are interested.

No one knows. But oh well, the show sucks anyway, save a few good characters (who're gone, and replaced by Brother Bear-esque Natives with a chief with a melting face).

As for the title of Heat Guy J, J is the android's name, and "Heat Guy" is his nickname in the underground, due to, as ZenZhu pointed out, the steam he expels.
