God, these *pukes from using this word* "stories" are total crap. Years ago, when only smart people had computers, fanfics used to be of much higher quality. Sure there were a few made up by 11 year olds, but they were not inundating like they are today.
At least with the NC-17 fics, you knew right off the bat what was going to be involved, and were never disappointed nor suprised. Now, all these kids are spewing forth more crap than a backed-up sewer main, with all these summeries hyping up their own works, only to leave the reader disappointed and praying to God for their 10 minutes of life back.
*Launches Patriot Anti-Lock missle*
Take for example, "Starfox". Here you had animal creatures blowing eachother up with lasers and weapons of mass destruction (The way it should be). There were a couple of authors who wrote amazing stories revolving around the Starfox universe. They read like war novels, were the roles were played by "animals" was secondary. Hell, some of the authors wrote a couple of sex scenes just to add varity to their stories and add character development and behavior. Even the NC-17 rated stuff was at least halfway decent. Granted it is kind hard to screw up smut, but at least the smut wasn't hyped up.
Ugh. Fanfiction is a dump now. |

Good fanfics are few and far between. For every decent one there's a hundred bad ones. Which is why I don't read fanfiction anymore. |

The story summaries alone are fucking hilarious. |

Wow, they even have: Flintstones, Underdog, G.I. Joe, Ed, Edd & Eddy, The little mermaid and even Fairly Odd Parents.
Nothing is sacred. |

The Little Mermaid doesn't shock me as much as, say, Fairly Odd Parents. Of all shows, how could that one spark any kind of sexual thought?!
Though the fact that there's Spongebob Squarepants stuff there proves that if there is a God, some stuff goes under his nose without him noticing... |

If you're talking about adultfanfiction.net, yes they tend to be rather unstable, try mediaminer.org, they allow NC-17, I found some really strange fanfics on there. |

Any mention of Blue's Clues reminds me of this.
A classic. Ah, the good ol' days. |

The most horrible thing I found on that site was The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy fanfiction. Now, that's my favorite book: I love sci-fi, and satire is a beautiful thing. Thinking of Zaphod getting it on with Marvin makes my stomach crawl.
Thank you, Internet! |

I never found fanfiction of anything. Then again, I never searched for it.
I feel naive and innocent. maybe that's why I draw the way I do. :) |

Someone once pointed me to a story where Michael has omo-hay sex with KITT...
Glanced thru it quickly... out of Oh-no-they-couldn't- curiosity...
It made me feel seeck to my stomach tho I was protected by the language barrier and I was told that was from
the cleanest end...

Fuck man, I stopped writing fanfiction back when the Apple //e was still current, Softalk was still published, and Beagle Bros. Pronto DOS was cool. Of course, that was a function of maturation. For anyone past the mid-teens to be writing it says something disturbing about the world. |

The thing I don't get about fanfic is a lot of it is pages and pages and pages and pages of stealing others' stuff.... and less so the NC-17 as it's pages and pages and pages and pages of, as you said, perverting it.
I mean, liking a written series, comics, or television show is one thing. Being a huge fan if it is something, too. But, dedicating time and energy to writing volumes of stories based on someone else's creation, or Gonterman-esque comic book chronicles just seems.... obsessive.
I mean, take Star Trek..... numerous TV shows, each with numerous episodes, movies, novels, and comics. But....... it's not enough. Folks have shows and stuff so memorized that it's just not new anymore... they need a new fix... so they write their own.
I'm not saying all fanfic should stop. I'm just saying it strikes me as kind of obsessive.... kind of Misery-esque. Duncan McCloud lops off the last head of the series, and walks off into the sunset. Some Tygger Graf-esque looking woman jumps up, spilling her popcorn, Twinkies, and Diet Coke spouting, "No... NO... NO!!! It can't end!!!" With much thunder and jiggling, she bounds her way to the computer and fires up Word. Her hot, chubby hands fly over the keyboard as she sates herself by creating her own continuation of the Highlander series as a Harlequin-type romance story with a few beheadings thrown in.
You also get bonus points if you manage to bring key characters back from the dead... especially if it by means of either:
A) Oh, I only appeared to be dead; or
B) The people in the other imaginary world think you're dead, but I transported you to MY OWN GODLY IMAGINARY WORLD just before the death ray hit you, so now you're safe, sound, and HERE TO CATER TO MY MASTURBATORY FANTASIES!!!!
Additional bonus points for involving Goldie Gold or Action Jack... just for sheer retro camp.
Of course, I've never really understood how some folks just get so into a TV show or something. I kind of look at a series or movie or set of movies as kind of like an art piece. You look at the piece... you admire what you like about it... you discuss what you don't.. you even theorize what you might have done different. But, you don't attempt to tailor the piece to your desires by hauling a few cans of spray paint to the museum to fix it up to your liking. You don't elaborate on a triptych you like by hanging your own additions to the work next to it.
Take one of my favorite shows.. Northern Exposure. It had its run. I enjoyed it. It came to an end and went off the air. No more Northern Exposure (until A&E and now Hallmark picked it up). Okay... that weeknight is a little different now. No more of that to watch. It was fun.. but it's over.. time to move on. I'm not about to go writing The Further Adventures of Joel and Maggie as they race across the tundra of Alaska in a monkey-driven, rocket-powered dune buggy.
I'm not saying fanfic is inherently wrong. It simply mystifies me how someone could dedicate time and energy into adding on to a show that is running, or perpetuating one that has ended/been cancelled*, when they could be dedicating time and energy to their own life. Of course, I know there are people out there that live vicariously through these characters they see on TV and in movies.
As for NC-17.... I know some folks do it for comedy. Scooby-Doo seems to be a favorite for slash, as we all always wanted to see Scooby and the gang run across something more than a disgruntled old codger in a wetsuit... like maybe a real monster, or a homicidal maniac. The speculation as to what exactly Fred, Velma and Daphne do when they "split up" is a universal joke recognized even by the vapor people of Pluto.
A lot of more mature fanfic, like much of regular fanfic, however, seems to consist largely of self-serving drivel that is created mainly for the purpose taking the creator's own manifestation in the story and placing him squarely as the hero/love interest in the story.... the guy that convinces Leia to divorce Han and run away with him to a summer home on Hoth, makes Luke Skywalker his bitch, invents the anti-Death Star wristwatch, and travels back in time to single-handedly prevent Skynet from ever allowing Palpatine to become the Imperial Emperor.... with a healthy dose of being the focus of a Bothan slave girl orgy thrown in every 2 or 3 pages for good measure.
I refer the jury back to Gonterman.
*Speaking of cancellations... dear God, put the Simpsons out of their misery! |

Get back in your Zoot suit!
Groening has already stated that he likes money and will run the Simpsons into the ground until he's no longer capable of being rich from it. While I can unerstand this stand - I'm wondering why more folks are pissed off at Watterson for killing Calvin and Hobbes - and no one's taken a potshot at ol' Matt yet to kill the pain.. ;) |

I'd have rather seen it go out on a high note, than waste away like some AIDS baby. But, then, I haven't watched it in a few years, as I'm usually out on Sunday evenings. But, as far as liking money and running a show into the ground so long as it continues to make you money hand over fist......
I can respect that. |

Dunno. I remember Garfield's first years, and thought it was a refreshing change from the usual daily strips.
Things changed after, 1982 or so. The strip became formulaic and static. |

You know, what I heard was he doesn't even do ANYTHING on that strip anymore. He has a staff of writers, pencilers, inkers, letterers, advertisers, etc. Well, maybe he does do a little. I mean, somebody has to count all that money from gullible newspapers. |

Meaning: Garfield is now soulless.
What about Boondocks, Mixed Media... or the best of all, The Far Side?

Shit, I can't recall, and a shame it's gone. Aaron McGruder is one of the few comic book artists I'd punch in the face for his 'talents'. He's a whiny bitch who needs to be taken down a knotch. Sorry, you're not 'the working man's new yorker'... you're just a ponce who likes to stir up shit - or try to, and call it 'humour'? Fucking die. |
