Sometime in the last year, doing a bit of 'furry history' research, I realised that I used to log into the Tigerden BBS with my old 1200 baud on my parents computer around 1989 or so (I would have been approx 11 years old). It looked mostly like any other BBS on the surface, I do remember there being an adult section I believe, which I did not have access to. All this was interesting to me in itself, but while reading Mr. Estrugo's recently posted article it came to me: "oh shit, I chatted with the SysOp!" I remember, maybe sensing some strangeness with the board, I paged the Op and asked him about the place. I really wish I could recollect more, but I think we had a short conversation and he said something to the effect of "we really like animals" but didn't really go into it further. Of course it gives me a case of the "what ifs". Like what if I had lied about my age upon registration and stumbled into some crazy skiltaire erotica or something.

It wouldn't be until 1993 and my Unix account that I discovered the incredibly audacious 'genre' of 'funny' animal erotica/porn. (oh can you possibly guess whose art I saw first? Winger, of course.) I had actually been introduced to anthros through science fiction (My favorite author was Allen D. Foster back then, and yes, I read QUOZL around 1990) and cartoons before this point, of course.

In case your wondering of the extent of my descent into the fandom, in 1998 I attended my first, and only con, CF9. Well, sort of attended, I was registered, but I only went for one evening, but that was enough for me. I bought some nice artwork, got to briefly meet a couple of cool artists whom I respect to this day, and got the fucking hell out of there. It just... wasn't for me, thanks.

Okay, I ASSUME the SysOp was Merlino, being that the BBS was located at his house. Can anybody confirm this?

I honestly have no idea, but I'd point towards This Guy. I know TW ran a BBS ages ago, and I swear it was called the "Tiger Den". Perhaps there were several.

Regardless, I'm sure "Kratsminsch" could be helpful for early 90s timelines. I would almost consider trying to drag them here, but Mitch and Compy would kill me.

Thanks much, I might just drop 'im a line. But I think I'll do a bit more research first. Hmm, looks like that page hasn't been updated since '01...

Well at thw time, I used to hit that BBS on my old 2400 baud system. But as I recall the "TigerDen" BBS was being run by one of Merlino's "Boytoys" at the time, I can't remember who it was, but it was not Merlino himself.

If I knew it was gonna be that kind of party, I would've stuck my dick in the mashed potatoes.

...sorry.
