I've seen too much of this shit from back when I heckled on Furcadia. I can't even get past the this huge ocean of apathy to write a witty, sarcastic persona to post in this thread. :(

For more FUNY, see the original poster's DeviantART gallery.

There's some substandard furry art (baggy pants ahoy), but the best part is the massive amounts of narcissistic photos of her.

if you dont know what a fursona is then your obvously not one of US... dont bother asking either.. . .im not gonna bother explaining it to you who arent like us. . .
so.. . .tell me whats your fursona?

Boy, quite the hospitable one, ain't she? I love how the whole thread just kind of blew up in her face.

There's a face to the whole fursona thing I had forgotten about until a few days ago when I was looking at Yerf or VCL or something... they all kind of run together. It's the whole thing about "This is me!" next to a picture of some double-donged rainbow unicorn with six breasts and lavendar bat wings. Not, "This is my character." or "This is my avatar." but "This IS ME!"

Ahh... yeah.

That's precisely one of the factors that make me feel uneasy with furrydumb - that so many people say "I am this" rather than "I play this character on a MUCK". Giving them the benefit of the doubt, it might just be a figure of speech, like people will say "He hit me!" if someone else's car hits their car... but still... it's spooky. I've played all the characters in Diablo II, but I never told anyone "I am an amazon". And not even the nerdiest of the guys at the internet café ever said anything like that; it was always, "I have this character here". Furrydumb is weird, man.

I can even understand saying "this is me" in the context of using a character to represent aspects of yourself. But, even then, a character is merely a fictitious representation of part of you. For example, I like birds, I shave my head, and I've had my nose described as "beaky." So, I sometimes draw myself in doodles as a bald eagle. But, I don't say it's me. It's just a picture I draw to stand in for me in a doodle or gag strip since it's a little easier than trying to capture myself in my styles, which are kind of a blend of anime and Bruce Timm, in a way that a viewer would recognize it as me.

So, even allowing for "this is me" being interpreted as a representation of one's self, there's something about the way many furries utter that that just trips something in the back of the brain.

I'm a video-game whore, and when my friends and I are telling each other what we're playing (we usually play the same online games together), we'll go, "I'm a swashbuckler," or something of that nature. But none of us think we're some sort of night elf warrior because of the way we respond.

Although, in furry, it's (usually) quite a bit different, as is typical. ;)

ZenZhu, Not Really Funny, you're both right of course, there are circumstances where it's perfectly logic to say "I'm a sword-wielding fox" or whatever. But, as you also mention, furries do it slightly differently.

I've lurked at furry forums just long enough to observe how often it happens and how accepted it is among furries to introduce themselves on a forum with "Hi, I'm CyberKitsune MagicTail, I have silvery fur, seven tails and cyborg weapon implantments" even though they are not on the role-playing section of the forum. And they'll proceed to litter their posts with such gems as "*shakes paw*" and "on the other paw" (that one really annoys me).

I'm generally not one to bash other people for their recreational preferences, and people are welcome to roleplay as a skunkfoxhermtaur if they so please, but often this goes beyond role-playing or character aspect-ing and closes in on delusion or wishful thinking run amok. Sometimes the worst of these suckers will admit they're human - with the add-on "I hate being human".

If someone sat around playing Diablo II and claimed to really, actually want to be an amazon, I'd say they were in need of a good psychologist or at least a looong break from playing.

I don't believe in "fursonas". I have "characters".

Like the user name I have. Sort of based off of an idea I had of an android with rodent-like body features combined with human features to enhance performance. (Sensitive Ears, Sharp Night-Vision, Natural Acrobat (from the tail), all that fun stuff.)

But I am NOT my character.

Hell, I'm not even the sum of my user name. It's just a way of identifying myself to the forums.

Fursonas are teh suck.

I'm so damned mundane, I chose a name that had the same beginning consonate as the animal I intended to use. Then, I took a name that wasn't likely to be taken. I should have done more research, methinketh... damn you, Lou Rankin.

I had to leave after the second page. It was like looking into some alternate universe where Ann Coulter was a whiny ass fangirl (instead of being the shreiking nazi harpie from Hell that she is in our universe).

You know, I thin this gets the heart of what bugs the living monkey shit out of me about most people that don't have a clear idea of what reality is. I've used the nickname creature since I got it when I was a football player in Jr. High in Texas. It's never been a persona/fursona/another-me. I am just me. That's it.

I think it just gets to the idea that a lot of people don't want to play the cards they are delt. They don't want to try and change who they are and make themselves any better. They just want to instantly be better or something different. I see it in the anime fandom with the the "I Wish I Was Japanese" girls and boys. Hell, you could extend it to the white middle class teenagers who want to be black and poor and in a gang.

Reality is what you make of it, and I think a lot of people just don't want to make anything of reality.

I'm going to create a new 'fursona'. An anthropomorphic penis. I shall be known as 'Mr. Phallus', and speak rather eloquently, whilst consistantly skirting about the issue of being nothing more than a big dick.

Top hat and cane, perhaps. But always with the rubbers for my, uh, feet.

Failing that, I'll give the character aMPD, loosely modled after Shmorky's HellDick(tm).

Hey, why should the fact that someone else has already done it be a barrier? I found this description on something I found via google image search earlier today:
Hee hee This is a Picture of a Good Friend of mines Charactor Flammie!!! For the peeps out there that know flammie, they will find this picture funny... And Belive me it is!!!! ^_^

Followed by a picture of the dragon from Secret of Mana. You know, the one that's called "Flammie". But the fact that a furry has taken an exact copy of it for their "fursona" makes it theirs, and not Squaresoft's at all.

Because, you know, it's only plagiarism when you're taking it off other furries.

foxybutt is © to himself!
picture © me!!! (no stealies or i squish you!)

I have been drawing cartoon cats since I was 4 but never once thought about creating a character to represent myself until I met the furry famdom. I don't konw whether its a good or bad thing that I've got one now, but I think of her as more of a mascot than anything. Not a sex tool for MUCKs or personal protitute to flaunt in VCL with no clothes on to horny geeks.

Anthro penis you say???

That makes you a failure as a furry, I'm sorry to say. But possibly a successful real life person.

But there's still time to change that. Quick! Draw some dick nipples!
