That's it. I take it you weren't particularly horrified by its tasteless bad humour, then?

NB: thanks to Mouse for passing that curiosity on.

yuh

when i seen it, i wouldnt say i found it offensive
BUT
i really didnt find it funny
and not for the "tasteless" aspect either
because normally i find shit like this funny - or at least have the capacity to

what i didnt find funny, was that this was terribly executed (from what i gather, and from seeing it) on several levels

i can see what charla trotman was going for (humor-wise) by reading this. you have the kind of dry, definitive statements that all end in periods. that really isnt the problem..the problem is that it that it drags on too long
she really should have wrapped it up at the "Fuck You."
..seriously , it would have been way better
(i made a few simple modifications to this thing and it took the edge right off of it, IMO)

because everything after it , just gives it a nastier tone , and its not surprising some people took it seriously

also this is the type of thing you leave in a "take one" box or with free pamphlets or whatever, you dont walk up to someone and hand it to them - then wonder why they would take it personally

a jokes a joke, but in a case like this - is it really unreasonable for someone to feel they are being made fun of?...not really...i dont think so anyway
especially when you take into account what some of the people who complained about this did
if you were , and you were being handed a pamphlet by the leader of the burned furs that says: Try Suicide. No, Seriously.
doesnt really matter if its a "burned fur" endorsed pamphlet or not

when i modified it one of the things i did was add the "MAD magazine thing" - thats what i call it anyway ..not that im even sure if they do this anymore, cuz i do not now nor ever did really read MAD
but i looked through a couple issues years ago and realized the humor (at least in those 1 or 2 issues) is derived from the fact that there was not 1 single solitary sentence that did not end in an explanation point. (even questions were ended with ?!)

try it sometime, see how drastically it changed the tone of things

not totally pertaining to charla trotman (im not familiar with her humor-style anyway) but this is good example why if you are going to use this style of comedy, or use realy nasty satire - you have to know what the fuck you are doing and be precise or your gonna fuck it up bigtime
(shawn keller did similiar - he understood his audience well enough to write a comic about them, but not enough to sell it to them....far as i know "horrifying look" was also dismissed in almost all mainstream comic places it even got a review in..."who was this supposed to be sold to?" is a very valid question)

its the difference between a comdian who is considered a genius or one that is remembered as an asshole (eg. andrew dice clay)

at any rate...yeah , its stupid to get upset about it
i dont think that many people did either , just judging by the fact there was little or no information about it other than like 1 or 2 threads on AFF

its the type of thing a few people get pissed off about , bitch about it for a week on forums and everywhere else, then completely forget about it along with everyone else

BTW, it appears she drew the picture (sig), i dont know thats its been confirmed she wrote it...although it does appear to be all 1 person/drawing.

Well, I was hoping it wouldn't be actually posted, seeing as how she's probably not going to be pleased when she sees it up here. Remember, this is someone who wants all records of her involvement with furrydumb erased, and although that is impossible I've tried to make an effort towards keeping her identity low-key... Oh well.

For the record, the flyer got her thrown out of the convention. She revels in the irony of that experience to this day. After all, being kicked out of a furry convention for distributing "offensive and disgusting" material is perhaps the greatest Pot Kettle Black experience one can have in the geek world.

Would've helped if the figure in there was fursuit-clad, but as I understand it it was a spur-of-the-moment thing. Also, if she was indeed HANDING THESE OUT to individual furries, then you can bet your ass that each and every one of them deserved it. She knew her shit, and still does to this day.

hey, you guys asked for it, i just got ahold of it and passed it along
what gets done with it is none of my business really

i dont think it should have gotten her thrown out of the convention, that is stupid. but i also dont think she should have been that surprised people got upset ...ESPECIALLY if she was targetting people with it...which probably wasnt the case anyway. also there is the matter, she signed the picture (i think thats her signature). oh well its out there now, aint ever going away. i dont think its that big of a deal.

and whats with this duality of wanting to expose furries like Eric W Schwartz, Quozl and never let thier past get away from them - while at the same time trying to cover up for ones who have left or done damage? (pertaining strictly to the way facts and history are handled, not character - obviously)

(edit 9/12/03: just to clarify - the above was not meant as an accusation, just a question/observation)

BTW
a furry gets murdered on CSI thats gonna air oct 30th 2003
someone posted about it on AFF

I found if quite funny. I especialy liked the appaling bit about the sewing needle not being sharp enuff. My mom tried a coat hanger herself, but clearly that wasn't efective either.
