It will have to be a complete shutdown. We turn her off, effect a wipe
of the Gonterchan-log and every subsequent event since we
downloaded it. I'll then reload all the CYD's programs from the protected
archives in the main core.

Georditolio, a shutdown means that the shields are going to be coming down too,
and we're hanging nose to nose with a Kimmughian battle cruiser!

I reacon the Host change is successfull then, Mitch?

Mark Merlino should win a Nobel Peace Prize for creating a fandom that purely appreciates anthropomorphics in a meaningful way.

Eric W. Schwartz is too righteus of a man to ever be the same person as TDK.

Now I have the sudden need to let the world know every little thing that turns me on. I think I'll post it in my Live Journal.

As if... I haven't had a scanner in almost 4 years since I lost mine when an adjoining apartment burned up. I linked one of my pics in another thread, but I have a handfull of things floating around out there online that are so old and crappy it's not even funny. Here's what I can remember having out there:

The cast of The Class Menagerie. I actually read that comic until the artist decided to wrap it up and turned it into a drama.

A pic inspired by Chinese fu dogs.

SuperMegaTopia's Elephant Girl. (Like I said, these date back over 4 years, when I wasn't quite furry, but not quite as non-furry as now.)

General scribblings. Please ignore what was supposed to be an elfish woman in the upper left... just think of it as a cross-dressing Vulcan, since there's too many things wrong with it to really be a woman. My style and skill have advanced significantly since then.

The story behind the first song was that I wanted to prove that anyone can make finnish hip hop in less than two hours, that's the song in the bottom. The other... Well, absinthe. I love absinthe.

Zen Zhu: Is there anything I can say to get you to start putting your art up again?

You are, like, light years better than me. The differance between your skill level and my skill level is, oh... about the difference in our respective post counts, times two.

AND A SCANNER COSTS ALL OF $50 DOLLARS, MAN. I just checked Newegg.com and they currently run as low as $43.00, which is pretty freaking inexpensive. Then again, I'm going to guess cost isn't so much a concern for you, but something else... your not afraid you'll get back into it now, are you?

SLaitila: Is there anything I can say to get you to never go near a micropho-- err, I mean... hey, you got an English translation to those lyrics?

Dear god, there are Fins rapping on my computer

Not many knows. It started popping in the late 90's with suburban finnish snow kids trying to be gangsta. When even the hip hoppers got sick of the fake machismo, it started to become whining.

Wormwood is illegal in finland also, I just love the taste of it. I think they've just used less wormwood in the weaker brands.

Not really. Real Absinthe has no stimulating or intoxicating effect that can't be had from any other alcoholic drink of same strength. Absinthe is just notable for having wormwood, artemisia absinthium, which has insecticidal properties, as an ingredient. Obviously imbibing a pesticide isn't healthy in the long run. I guess Absinthe's appeal is both the "decadent" image and the fact that the damn thing does taste good. I had a few some years back at the only bar in town that had stocked up before production was made illegal. That bar could still sell it, as it remained legal to sell existing stock. Taste-wise, though, Absinthe is pretty much like any other type of pastis. A good substitute would be Ricard. Although only Absinthe or the imitation wormwood-less Absenthe has that impressive emerald-green colour.

Thanks for the feedback, though the only thing I really draw these days is a bath. I doodle in my phone log at work when I'm on hold, but beyond that, the only place I draw much anymore is in the steam collected on my shower door. It's not that I really gave it up, but just don't have any drive or inspiration to draw these days.... no characters to design, stories to illustrate, or anything like that. The concerns of reworking my resume, exercising, cooking dinner, and cleaning house take up the bulk of my time these days. Not much left for drawing, even if I had something I wanted to draw.

Most of my creative energies at the moment are being put toward developing a technical writing portfolio (one of those career-changer challenges of creating examples of your work when your current career doesn't involve producing such works). I would like to reprise my old "Mundane Guy" pictures that were done to look like KMFDM album covers for you guys eventually.

I do need to dig up some illustrations I did for a book my old employer published. There's one of a deer that even I am surprised I produced. But there's also some sequential geologic cross-sections that I just realized I should put in my tech-writing portfolio. I'm hoping to play up my design qualities (as well as getting a web development certification)... so that maybe my next job can involve a little more creativity.

If I find anything worth digging up, I'll use my wife's scanner and put them where I can share them.

I feel exactly the same, ZenZhu. I guess all I need is some discipline. That's the difference between me and a pro: a pro draws even if they aren't in the mood.

Sounds like an active substance to me! :

Thujone belongs to the family of monoterpene ketones(4). There are two principle enantiomers found in wormwood, (-)-3-isothujone (a-thujone) and (+)-3-isothujone (b-thujone). They make up 90% of the wormwood oilÌs weight(1), but a-thujone has a much higher toxicity than b-thujone. The ratio in nature of a to b-thujone is 1:2(4). The IUPAC name of thujone is 4-methyl-1-(1-methylethyl)bicyclo<3.1.0>hexan-3-one.

--

They discovered that a-thujone is a Ïmodulator of the g-aminobutyric acid (GABA) type A receptor.(8)Ó They compared a-thujone toxic effects to that of picrotoxinin, a GABAA receptor antagonist. It was found that they both had similar toxic effect and the toxicity in both was suppressed by diazepam, phenobarbital and ethanol. They also found that drosophila that had a single point mutation in the GABA receptor that made them resistant to dieldrin were also resistant to a -thujone. a-Thujone was found to be Ïa competitive inhibitor of <3H>EBOB binding, i.e., of the noncompetitive blocker site of the GABA-gated chloride channel.(8)Ó a-Thujone was also found to be a reversible modulator of the GABAA receptor in the dorsal root ganglia neurons

Whoah, I'm not disputing the psychoactive properties of thujone; just saying, the wormwood is such a small ingredient in Absinthe that it doesn't give any particular effect when you have a drink or two. Drinking a lot of Absinthe would probably have some weird effect besides getting drunk (and besides ultimately suffering some damage from the insecticidal properties of wormwood), but like I said, I only had a few. It was fun to try, but again, taste-wise, you could just as well have a Ricard.

West coast of finland where I live, the town is Vaasa, less than 100k people living there. In the east, the nearest coast is china. Typically east and west side in finnish hip hop are either the eastern or western parts of the capital (helsinki) area.

Well, yeah. But the Soviet Union tried to invade Finland and failed.

And then they fought against British and Americans. And against Germans, too, and they won everything. I guess they won WWII by themselves.

A story comes out of Eastern Karelia where a group of soldiers had been forgotten in a field sauna. Finnish forces were on the retreat at the time, but the enemy was not thought to be very close. While one group of men were enjoying the löyly, the front line moved, the guards retreated and the sauna and those in it were suddenly in enemy territory. When the men came out to cool off, they saw that the line had been breached and that they had been left behind the Soviet front, without weapons nor equipment, completely naked. There were forty or so of them, without so much as a pair of trousers between them.
The dugout in which they left their equipment had been destroyed. Somewhere in the distance they heard the clank and roar of tanks. It had been a tight spot. So, perhaps all these men were taken prisoner? It makes sense, but no. First they went back into the sauna and had a good hit of löyly for the road. Then they split up into small groups and disappeared into the forest, re-crossing the front line wherever they could, during the night. They were naked and scratched when they got caught up to their main group, because they had struggled through peat bogs and thickets for the best part of two days. But finally the group was all together again, and when it was seen what condition they were in, they were promptly ordered off to the sauna for yet another good taste of löyly. (Story adapted from Businessman's guide to the Finnish Sauna)

I'd think twice before invading a county with so many saunas.

AFAIK Finnish soldiers never fought on the Western front (even a volunteers to the SS).

For 105 days the world held its breath and learned the word sisu, while Russians died at the incredible rate of nearly 10,000 per day and the Finns lost 250 per day. When the armistice finally came on March 13, 1940, the Finns counted 25,000 dead, 55,000 wounded, and 450,000 homeless, a terrible price for a country of only four million people. However, even the Finns did not know the devastation that they had caused the Russians until years later. All this was at the hands of an army of less than 250,000 (mostly light infantry, home guard units) with hardly any anti-tank weapons (except Molotov cocktails) and 41 operational fighter aircraft. In the words of my father-in-law, Antti Olavi Pönkänen, who fought in this war: "Our lakes are full of dead Russians."
