Post subject: News Tribune's Conifur report |
|
|
A News Tribune reporter visited Conifur and produced this article:
Common furry terminology:
Chirp: "hey everyone!"
Rawr: threatening
Yip: pleasure/fun
Woof, bark, yip: conversational terms
'Yip'? YIP!?
And they interviewed everyone's favorite space weasel!
Mark Merlino, who created what was probably the first furry convention in California about 15 years ago, has a furry character called Sylys (he pronounces it Silas).
"I'm a pinemartin," he said, showing a drawing of Sylys the pinemartin, who has enormous, intelligent eyes. He says Sylys is his "fursona."
And this nice reporter even refutes those nasty rumours about the fandom:
Conifur attendees are called "furries." If you've seen the "CSI" episode about perverted, sex-oriented furries, no, that's not what this is all about, said Matt Romanek, director of Conifur.
"We don't have anything like that," Romanek said. "If there were anything like that, me or my staff would take care of it right away."
Oh noooo, there were none of those nasty perverted yiffers at Conifur, certainly not! Good job that reporter didn't do any, you know, snooping or - God forbid! - actual damned reporting or the ointment would have hit the fan and no mistake:
I was chatting with the guy, talking about how the whole twink fox getting boned by werewolves with huge cocks is a cool thing. So he shows me some cub porn , something like a 2 , 6-9 year old fox cubs getting fucked by their obviously adult babysitter. |

Conversations go on 24 hours a day, and, because participants are adults, sometimes wander into sexual or sex-humor realms, Merlino said.
Yeah thats true anywhere, but Merlino of all fucking people to be talking down that aspect of fandom....
Kathleen Ramos of Bellevue and her husband Nathan got a room at the Sheraton for the weekend so they could attend Conifur with their son Tyler. Tyler, 17, wore a wolf costume he made.
I cant imagine attending anything with my parents at 17 ..
Tho having parents present is probably a really good idea for younger furries |

Chirp? The day I say that to anyone as a greeting is the day I have myself committed.
Whatever next, are furries going to make an entire language to themselves?? |

I'm sure that's the kind of "fair and balanced" reporting furries like.
BTW, where's that creepy final quote from? |

I'd like to mention that Ubuntu Linux is pretty good, despite being Linux. It took virtually no user intervention, and with a few minor GUI-driven tools, is now playing DVDs under X. Last I looked, no free *IX did a decent job of that..
We now return you to your furry related prospects. |

Furries will no doubt brag and crow all about it, thinking that they are finally "winning the hearts and minds" of the hyoomanz at last. But, all of us here know this brief period will not last. Sooner or laters, the urge to be a yowling pack of oversexed howler monkeys will prevail, and it's "C.S.I. II: Electric Boogaloo".
With Mark Merlino back, you can be sure of it. |

In all fairness to the reporter, that's pretty much what's to be expected from a major daily newspaper. They don't want to print anything that's going to make the average reader choke on their morning donut and spit out their morning coffee all over their morning...uh..pants.
Also, if it's a local paper, they probably do a little quirk piece on this convention every year. So if they're all mean and nasty this year, they'll find access next year to be that much harder.
That's probably part of the reason Merlino's in it. Most furries are so terrified of the media these days, even innocuous little puff pieces like this one, that the only people who'll talk to reporters are the consummate attention whores. |

That was from Sibe's Conifur 2004 report on alt.fan.furry. From which this comes:
So I had him my sketchbook and he
looks at it and says "Is this sibes? " I let him know that I was in
fact sibe, and yes it was. So he hands me the sketchbook back and
says that he wont draw stuff in it.
I found out that , wow... drawing stuff for me vs. drawing cub pr0n.
Thats his line between morality and immorality. That kinda made me
smile to think that even drawing something for me was far worse then
drawing cub pornography. |

Ah, the infamous Sibe. This bit from his con report is pretty good too:
I was chatting with the guy, talking about how the whole twink fox getting boned by werewolves with huge cocks is a cool thing.
Um yeah. But he does have a point: being Sibe is a problem, but pandering to pedophiles isn't? Furry logic: Anything goes - except when demanded by someone you don't like for completely different reasons. |
