I've been quietly observing things over at Jay's little forum, just to see if they have anything new to say about CYD. And boy oh boy, the Cult of Jay's really got a bug up their collective butts this time, particularly over a certain recent pic we here have been enjoying.

For those who do not realize it, this "Guest" is just one of the posters over at the second-rate hate-fest called "Crush... Yiff... Destroy". They've been trying to bash Jay and his comic for some time now, largely just making themselves look like idiots. Jay refused to get even mildly purrturbed.

So one of them, apparently a fellow called Schmorky did this rather unpleasant 'editing' of Jay's artwork in order to get a rise... or at least a few laughs out of his fellow bashers. Now our rude "guest", who may be Schmorky but probably isn't, has decided to try to piss everyone off so he can masturbate to it.

Unfortunately, he was quite correct in guessing that if your bad opinions of an artist won't upset him, you can always get to him by defacing his hard work. I don't blame Jay for being angry. Jay was purrfectly fine letting these jokers rant and rave all they wanted, and they didn't like that, so they stooped to the lowest sort of trolling, disrupting his forum for no cause other than to upset people.

10/13/2004 - The primary big news right now is the pending removal of the Furrymilitia forum. Before people get too upset, the forum was well on its way to being axed along with the site changes that were going to take affect. One can't exactly have a "Furrymilitia" forum when Furrymilitia was going away. I was also getting tired of moderating it. Even regulars were starting to stray from the rules, like children who are told to be quiet, and still their voices gradually escelate to intolerable levels as they forget everything they were told five minutes later. I'm not really a forum kind of guy. I don't go to other comic forums. I have no real interest in chatting with huge groups of people about stuff like that. The Furrymilitia forum was largely there for fan service. I answered some questions and made a few clarifications. Some regulars there seemed entertained. It was okay. It's probably the last time I'll get talked into creating something I don't really care to manage, by my readers.

The removal of the forum was hastened by the appearance of trolls that took delight in Talk About Comics' severe lack of moderator tools in handling them. There are no tools for blocking guests or IPs, and there are no tools for preventing new topics from being created. There's no listed protocol for deleting a forum. So, an e-mail is in to the administrators asking them to do it. It's just waiting on them. So, don't go to it. Don't look at it. Don't read it. Don't post. For the forum regulars who were actually responding to the trollers and explaining things to them... what the fuck is wrong with you? I know it's harsh language. But, you should feel ashamed. You know better. Are you new to the internet?

Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to ban guests. He is posting from different IP addresses, and if I set up a dummy account for "guest69" he can always pick a different name.

However, I have disabled posting by all guests on the Furrymilitia forum for now. Is that OK?

BTW "guest"'s behavior isn't spamming, it's trolling. The difference matters because there are different goals and different ways of dealing with it. Spammers must be hammered hard, preferably in the physical world; trolls, on the other hand, are best ignored.

Several things amuse me here:

1. For a guy like Jay Naylor, who is a diehard republican who's obviously very stubborn in his ways and so damn sure that he is right and you are wrong if you have a different opinion, he sure seemed to fold pretty quickly in the face of one person's mischief. I hope this will be an omen for how things will go for Bush and his mafia a few weeks from now (sorry Wayd, but Dubya's just plain got that bad combination of stupid/evil. Try to see if McCain can run in '08, okay?)

2. Schmorky has proven that the art of satire is still very capable of toppling the bad guys. Not saying that he's the one who posted it, but the fact still remains that his toon is still one of the most fall-on-yer-ass-laughing funniest I've read in a long time.

3. Jay drew a scene in his comic where his personna boinked his sister. There's no denying it. He only has himself to blame for all of this. :lol:

That's one of the things that's really amusing. Furries are very quick to defend their screencaps of the Lion King with a dick drawn on Simba in MSPaint as "satire" or "parody." Any picture of Lola Bunny or Fifi la Fume riding the narrow end of a broomstick is likewise considered a justifiably unauthorized depiction of a copyrighted image or character. But, let someone alter a furry's picture for the actualpurposes of satire and suddenly it's "ART TH3FT! (c) M3! N0 ST3AL13S!"

Well, that's cuz you used WERDS! If it isn't furry slash fiction or textfucking, all words are lost on furries if not surrounded by a balloon trailed out by some cartoon animal. Your breakdown of the comic was too wordy and drawn out for your average furry to scan through..... once they got a few sentences into it and saw it wasn't mindless adolation, all they could see was red. It took a KARTUUN to really drive home the point that, "Hey, these guys don't worship Jay!"

I will give Naylor credit for one thing, though. Even if he is copping the attitude of "I'm too superior and right to dignify these trolls with a response," he has, to-date, encouraged all of his pissy minions to do the same... rather than storming over here and stomping his feet in anger. I would say that he's just respecting the fact that we're entitled to our own opinion about the value of his comic... but I doubt his motive is that lofty. After all, what we are doing in relation to his comic is basically what his comic is doing in relation to society in general. He can't claim moral high ground here, since his comic is really just mocking what he percives to be society's foibles in the exact same way we are mocking what we percive to be his comic's foibles.

Still, even if he is simply sitting back and harumphing, he hasn't come storming over here with his 9mm penis surrogates to tear us a new one. Whatever his motives, I'll at least extend him credit for not throwing the temper tantrum many furries would have. Of course, he doesn't need to. He has plenty of BD minions to do that for him.

Naylor seems pretty relaxed when it comes to criticism of his work or himself. I had a look at the FurryMilitia forum some days ago, and his general attitude seems to be that disagreements, trolling, spamming, etc, should be handled quietly and gentleman-like. It could be a side-effect of the self-righteousness Mat Sherer described - why bother getting angry when you know you're right?

BTW, I don't think Naylor qualifies as a genuine furry. After all, he's got a comic with human characters in the works. A real furry wouldn't waste time on such things.

Then again, maybe he isn't as laid-back and un-furry as he pretends.

No, he retains his site, but it seems he's been planning to give the site a name change - which I guess means a whole new site - for some time now.

Like he says in the newsflash I quoted a few posts back, there were some trolls on his forum - anybody can post on the talkaboutcomics.com forums without registering, so that invites stupid behaviour; I've seen that on a few other of their forums as well. So I suppose Naylor just got tired of dealing with having a forum. Forums are a pain in the ass enough when you DO have administrative control. Some jackass invaded Naylor's forum, and not only pissed him off, but pissed off all of the fanboys of his, which in turn created even much more of a rucous.

I'm annoyed with the entire concept - it's fine to poke like at someone who's doing something stupid such as nailing their testicle to a tree, lighting their hair on fire, having sex with their sister - or, indeed, their plushie - but outright trolling someone's messageboard is beyond good taste. I fail to see why we take the pratfall for someone's doing. If it's 'making fun of', 'riling', or otherwise 'not kissing the ass of' a furry related venue, it's SA, and/or CYD.

It's nice to have a reputation as a bad-ass, I guess, however, I don't don't relish being cornered with the "Oh, you're a supremistisisistisit, NAZI" bullshit, or those idiots who join and make an ass out of themselves to defend their liberty and right to have sex with their Meeko.

And Jay dismisses them for being wrong (because they don't agree with Jay, you see), and rips the feature down.

You know, seeing all this attention on Naylor was long overdue. I remember reading that comic once and really liking the way he drew animals (not humans, of course.) However, It's not hard to notice his little infactuation with incest.

Ha. I remember hearing about when the guy who invented his sister (Lucy, I think) and Naylor would typefuck on Taps to roleplay this incest out. That was when they were on good speaking terms. Now they hate each other for some really stupid reason. All we have left is that last portfolio Naylor made of Fisk and his sister, Lucy, fucking, fucking, and more fucking. When I first checked out a few Better Days pages some months ago, the current storyline was about some high school jock - Ted, I think - being really mean to Fisk's sister Lucy. I read about five pages, and under each page there were 20-30 comments - and the vast majority of those were loyal fans crying for Fisk to bash Ted's head with a baseball bat, neuter him, kick his teeth in, etc, etc, etc. I actually thought it was slightly scary.

A few weeks later, when I dropped by again for another quick glance, the comments feature was gone, and there was a message from Naylor on the FurryMilitia "news" section regarding this. There was no mention of the deranged scriblings of all those blood-thirsty maniac fanboys. What he did mention was that someone had had the gall to leave a comment about the USA being "the Canadian sphere of influence". That must have been a joke... but that prompted Naylor to remove the feature.

Back then, I was rather surprised at Naylor's priorities regarding the comments. Having read quite a bit by and on Naylor by now, it all fits all too well.

I'd just like to share a completely random, off-topic story about squirrels with you Don.

You see, I was about 11 or 12, returning from a fishing trip in which my shoes had gotten wet. So naturally, I had them off. When we arrived back home, I got out of the car and got my shoes out. I turned to go inside the house and I see a squirrel in my front yard, now me, being the mean little shit I am; decide to scare it. Just for kicks. So I took one of my shoes and tossed it towards the poor, innocent squirrel in a high arching, gentle toss. Uttering these fatefull words as I did so "Hello Mr. Squirrel, meet Mr. Shoe." Now, I don't know if the sun was in the poor lil creature's eyes or if it couldn't believe I had the audacity to harm such a majestic critter such as itself. But it didn't move.

And the shoe came down from 15 feet up in the air, directly onto him. THUMP! I stared in horror. The squirrel had fallen over and wasn't moving. I thought I had killed it.. but a few seconds later it jumped up and ran up the tree it was beside, falling twice in the process.

Needless to say, I was howling with laughter.

And that's my story about squirrels.

The only story I can think of is seeing a dying squirrel grotesquely flopping around on the ground for about an hour, until some kindly fellow squirrel comes along and drags back into the tree, presumably to eat it.

Yay Don drew something for me!

I'm pretty sure it was a grey squirrel, since there's alot more of those around here. Also, I can't believe I left this out of my story. When I threw the shoe I said "Hello Mr. Squirrel, meet Mr. Shoe!" Adding that to the original post now.
