So lately at my school there has been a problem: people have been dressing up with tails, animal ears, and wings (usually faerie). Thankfully, this act must have bothered some of the teachers, who decided to place a ban on such "casual" accessories.

The reaction can be easily guessed. While watching the (horrible) school news program on the television, I heard one boy in particular whine about how the school was, in quote, "Censoring our freedom." The rest of the speakers said something along the same lines, except for one boy who commented on how it was good when the school made policies for people to wear less (the amount of insinuation in his quote made the whole room I was in burst into laughter).

Going back on the track... there you have it. Fursecution wanders into high school property! Now, I wonder if any drama will start... I.e. a furry rebellion to bring the purple faerie wings + cat ears + raccoon tails (seriously, this is what they wore) back to school. If anything happens and you want to hear about, I'll post again.

"Censoring our freedom"? No, they're trying to prevent you from looking like a fucking loony. Looks like they were too late.

I've heard of this becoming trendy enough that I doubt most teens wearing this stuff are furries or even know about furries. It seems to be a growing offshoot of raver culture or something... especially the fairy wings.

As for "censoring freedoms," that's just the tripe spewed by the MTV-watching masses that think they should "rock the vote" and crap that makes me want to drive by when school's let out for the day and hold an oar about head-high out of the car window to give some of them a good smack upside the head. As the byproducts of the Dr. Spock generations continue to raise kids with the idea that freedom means you can do what you want, when you want, where you want with no reprocussions.... since that would make someone feel bad, we get this whole bastardization of "censoring freedoms."

Guess what, you walking lumps of oil and braces... the freedom to do something comes with the responsibility to know when it is and isn't appropriate. You're in school to learn.. not to prance around in your ears and tails and pixie wings and candy necklaces and crap. Save that for your panty-ass raves where you're bobbing your head to Juno Reactor and still standing with girls one one side of the room and boys on the other while someone convinces you they're a badass because they scored a six-pack of O'Doull's. If someone tells you you can't wear a red shirt because it's red.. then you can mewl about someone censoring you. But don't start whining because you can't run around in your little fashion statement and feeble attempt at asserting your "individuality" 24 hours a day. If you don't like learning to march to someone else's drum for a few hours out of your day, you can drop out and get a McJob or rent yourself out as a pixie hooker with cat ears to some pedophile for $20 a cum-guzzle.

Personally, I always wished schools would have adopted those snazzy uniforms they have in China and Japan. I went to a Catholic school for 7th and 8th grade, and the uniforms we have here are awful. I'm not saying Japan/Chine rules or anything.. but the school uniforms are at least snappier than here... and the girls' outfits are a little nicer. You could stuff Cindy Crawford into one of those Catholic-school white shirts and plaid skirts and the thing would make her look so dumpy that she'd look like an androgynous lacrosse player.

That and uniforms would have made it a hell of a lot easier to figure out what to wear each day. The teen years are bad enough carving out an identity without having to worry about making each day of the school week a fashion show.

You know, those Catholic schools very likely designed the uniforms to work that way on purpose. Lessen the propability of arousing any impure thoughts.

Waitaminnit... you're in high school, and yet you post on CYD... with definitely pornographic pictures... doesn't this violate some law or other?

Meh.

And your HS has banned animal ears and tails?

Also meh.

Tell the furries, "shut the fuck up, you bitches. You wanna see real denial of freedoms? Learn about Auschwitz."

Just show them that their tails and ears are somehow remotely related to Doug Winger, that'll snap them out of it.

Worse is when you have a drawing board and underage artists are making filthy pictures. It makes me feel so weird and it is one of the reasons I didn't want a drawing board anymore. I don't even know what kind of ethics that kind of crap is breaking but it sure as hell freaks me out. This goes on at Deviantart as well.

I wonder when the first furrypride parade will come out and where. If this goes on it won't be long, unless it has already happened and I haven't seen it on the news.

Well I really doubt that they would ever show anything about furries in finnish television channels, only the CSI episode with furries has been aired, no other furry connected things have been shown here.

And yes, it would look pretty stupid to have a tail up your ass at school/college/wherever, however I think that fursuiting and making people freak out and laugh on the streets would be fun :P

The furries decided to make a name for themselves a while ago and have been taking on floats at the gay pride parade in San Francisco as of late. If you wish to count it there's also the 'parade of shame' SA had a long time ago.

I really don't care, I've gotten used to it. SA and PoE kind of jaded me. If I hit a porno site I just click it out and keep on surfing the Net. I think it's only illegal if you try to sell minors the stuff/show it to them; if minors stumble upon it by their own will, they should just deal with it and move on.

Also, not all of the people violating the new dress code are furries, I forgot to mention that. There's a group of about five that were really into it, and I think two or three of them were into the furry scene (according to a friend), but the rest were Renaissance nerds. We have a huge festival over here, so lots of opportunities for fantasy people to flock around in costume.

Lucky bastard, the only furry (to my knowledge, anyway) at the highschool I went to was this guy, and yes, he behaved pretty much just like that offline as well.
I really really wish I could find a picture of him online, he looked kinda like an inbred goblin (tiny, scrunched-up head with a giant snaggle-toothed mouth) and presumably never cut or even touched his hair, resulting in a giant fungal-looking mass of greasy hair all around his head. While I don't remember him ever wearing any furry paraphernalia, I do remember him once riding to school on a skateboard wearing black hightop platform boots with fuzzy pink socks cuffed over the top.

Tell that to all the college students that spend their parents' money to prance around classes when they're drunk, or painfully prance with hangovers... if they even show up for class. As long as they receive the degree, their working value increases.

There are bunch of schools on all academic levels where prancing is better encouraged than learning. There's no responsibility to do anything other than show up everyday . If students grow up with few academic standards in an essentially academic position, it becomes harder for students to understand other standards, and it's becomes more difficult for the administration to crack down. Inaction is often the easiest option.

Banning odd accessories? It's a start to having standards, but they'll probably stop there and regress. After Columbine, my hometown's school district banned trenchcoats and opaque bags... until the next school year when everyone's attention had dissipated.

*end annoying, bitter rant. Who wants pixie wing candy necklace cupcakes?!

My college really sucks, basically 3/4 of the class shows up for a 'semi-roll' then just slowly disappear within the first 15 minutes, they all do the bare minimum to pass and succeed well at it. The teachers definitely aren't ignorant to this; they enjoy it because as you said, "Inaction is often the easiest option." Before the teacher almost got fired, my computer / data technologies class had pretty much 0 attendance, everybody got the assignments on the website and emailed them to the teacher. Hell, they even did the final / midterm online. One thing that's made everyone try a little harder is because prices went up to 28 bucks a unit thanks to our glorious leader, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Thankfully I'm only 16 and 'technically' still in highschool my entire college units are paid for by Uncle Sam.

Try mentioning that Ch'mrr is violating Australian 'sex tourism' laws on the vclforum, and count how many seconds it takes for the thread to get deleted (rather than the usual move into the Closed forum)...

Each semester as a grad-student, I had to potty-train those types in basic geology lab. The ones that were the quickest to bitch about tests and studying, and the ones that showed up the least were the education majors. They'd whine and say "Why do I have to know this!? I'm never gonna use it!" Now, mind you, these are kids.. mostly girls.. wanting to go into elementary education, where you often teach every subject to one class, rather than specializing in a subject like in high school. One of those subjects I remember cropping up a lot was what they called "Earth science".... basically geology. So.. gee, I dunno.. maybe you might use it some day???

When they'd whine, I'd often ask them why they were going into education if they didn't like taking classes themselves. They'd always say, "Oh, because I love kids."

I sooooooo wanted to follow up with, "Then why are you insisting on damning them to your level of ignorance?"

When I see twinkettes dressed in fairy wings, I like to walk up and say;

"I don't believe in you!"

Then wait a couple seconds and follow up with;

"Well, wait are you waiting for? DIE already!"

Eh? To tell ya the truth the whole wing/ass-tail thing sounds more Emo than furry. Now, hats with ears are neat, but only if they are functional winter hats and somewhat subtle. I have a fleecy leopard-print hat with little ears, and a black fleecy with horns--their cute and warm which is why I wear them. Of course, you take those off when you go inside.

Tails, ears on headhands and wings are just stupid to wear to school--unless you are dressing up for Halloween. Besides, how the hell can you sit comfortably while wearing those???? Those kinds of things only belong in a rave or Renfest (wear it's okay to look like a dork if ya want to :) ).

As time goes on I hear more stories of kids behaving this way. A good way to solve this is to make our schools much harder. If you're studying 8 hours a day you don't have time to be a freak!

I have never seen a furry in my hometown (or university town) ever. They're around (by the probability that there's at least one in every major city), but they don't prance about like idiots with tails and ears. Yet. Please don't give them ideas!

That's... really unsettling. In fact that looks like my sister's ex-boyfriend JoJo, only skinnier. In fact, I'd like to believe it's JoJo's eventual fate to starve himself into such a hideous, bony little freak.

The only differance is JoJo was big into Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, not Sonic. He played that game all the time and drove me insane with it. Curse you, JoJo!!! You with your greasy hair, and your bad smell (he stank no matter how many showers he took) and your obnoxiously poor sense of humor. He was the most furry-like non-furry I ever knew... And even though my sister's married and off in the army, i.e., no longer living with us, the creep still calls here asking her to come back to him.

Study your logical conclusions in Geometry, me'boy. All sobby emo fags are all sobby, emo, and fags.

1) Are all sobby emo kids fags?
2) Are all emo fags, sobby?
3) Are all sobby fags, emo?

I'm putting too many coherent sentences in my posts...

I don't think cat ears and/or racoon tails are essentially furry. Look at a mainstream anime (all the catgirls) or a video games (like Ayane in DOAX). It's the modern pop-culture. It's not exactly furcos... what's the word? Cosfuring or something. Oh, fursuiting.

Also, Chicom uniforms are truly horrible. Look at a a Maoistic socrealism pictures. Everyone's wearing the same... I mean, EVERYONE. Nightmare, really.

just ageneral comment, anything can be psycedelica, if you get enough people on drugs, just look at what became of progressive rock in the late 60's, the reverse can also be true, look at "alice in wonderland." a book regarded by many as a prime example of psycedelic literature.
although "one flew over the cukoo's nest" is the only one I know of were the author admits to being on drugs.
