Well you're half right. I myself would be considered a furry by some. But, I never really got involved in the fandom itself (I don't consider myself a furry since my love of adult-themed works with anthros doesn't consume my entire life), so I never really encountered many other furs, and although a few of the ones I did bump into were strange, I'd never really known any who were blatantly mean-spirited and hypocritical.

I've had this type of disscussion with people before. Theft requires that the original owner no longer have the item in question. Hence, you can't steal someone's ideas or creativity. This is a case of someone maybe vaguely copying someone's idea (probably not), so if you were being a stickler about it it'd be an IP rights violation. But, it sounds more exciting if someone says "they STOLE my ideas!!", like they were just boarded by interweb pirates. I'm still lolin about the idea of furries having intellectual property.

The subject of copyright pops up ever so often with furry "artists", and they usually get it wrong. But so do a lot of other people.

There is no such thing as registering a copyright. The minute a creative work takes tangible form, it's automatically protected by copyright; a word that means exactly what it says: the legal exclusive right of the author of a creative work to control the copying of that work.

But (of course) KAK is completely off - that someone's made a drawing vaguely resembling hers does not constitute a violation of copyright. It has to be an actual copy to be a violation.

Again, there's no such thing as registering a copyright. And you can't trademark a character. What big companies trademark are names and logos. The name Mickey Mouse is trademarked by Disney; no one else can use that name for a character, a café, a band, or whatever. The character Mickey Mouse, however, is copyrighted. Strictly speaking, DA is right; a character does not have a copyright in itself - but what makes a character is the way it looks, the way it acts, the stories in which it appears etc., which are all tangible expressions of creativity and hence copyrighted. In practice, in order to establish that this is the character Mickey Mouse, you have to have him look like Mickey Mouse, preferrably also act like him, and if you do that and you're not employed by Disney to do precisely that, and you make your work public - bingo, copyright violation.

The same applies to crappy furry art - but what furries are prone to forget is that copyright is mainly about protecting an author's right to benefit economically from his/her work, and if the work has no commercial value - which certainly is true of most furry art - actually dragging someone to court over a copyright violation is not going to happen.

"Theft" in the strict sense of the word is completely irrelevant to the subject of copyright. If you copy someone's book, sculpture, painting, crappy furry artwork - you're breaking the law, no matter who holds the original item in their hands.

Hence, you can't steal someone's ideas or creativity.

Sure you can, provided someone's given their ideas tangible form - like written a book. You could then choose to write a book very much resembling that book, and that's illegal. Copyright law is quite explicit that making derivative works - works based or derived from another copyrighted work - is the exclusive right of the owner of the original work.

What Kimmaugh doesn't seem quite cognizant of is that it would be impossible for any pose ever drawn or photographed to be completely dissimiliar from every other one ever done. Obviously, we have some poses we all recognize... Luke and Leia's pose from the original Star Wars poster.... Marilyn Monroe standing over a street vent.... James Bond's classic arms-crossed-with-gun pose... but it's not like they're copyrighted. The old paintbrush in the mouth bit isn't anything she created... and if standing in a picture with her eyes closed is her creation, everyone who ever blinked when their photo was taken should watch out... cuz they dun stole from her.

Probably not since she once claimed to me that she was story boarding for a movie due out in june of this year from some movie studio, I forget which one but when I checked they were releasing nothing in june or for the months either side of it. No, I think it's clear she's going to either be on welfare or some sort of disability for the rest of her life, or be taken care of by her parents or family.

Actually, is there any word on that? I haven't delved too deep into the site about her, but just what support system does she have? When I say it's hard to imagine how she functions with just basic day to day living, I really mean it. I work, I've got rent, utilities, car insurance, groceries and all the other costs of living and responsibilities to manage in my household, so I can't imagine how this person, if she's as retarded as she seems to be (and I'm not saying that as an insult this time; there's just no better explanation that I can think of to describe why she is the way she is), could survive by her own means.

Which doesn't mean I feel sorry for her, either. Whatever her mental capacities, she's still a jerk.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think she lives with her parents and attends community college part-time on occasion. I may be wrong about that. I also think I read somewhere that when things got really heated between her and POE, her family limited her internet and computer time. I remember that thread... Gawds, it just went on and on and on.

She's dabbled in 3D art, specifically Bryce 4, which was used to make the shitty background in the "wock cock/gaping leg wound" picture. Bryce's modeling capabilities may be limited, but not THAT fucking limited. She also made and animated something vaguely resembling a husky in Maya, probably with lots of help from her hapless community-college professor. Like all her other art, it sucked shit.

In a twisted way, it's good to see she's back to her same tricks, that is, claiming she owns the copyright to every 3/4 right-facing drawing of a smiling blue husky/Balto looking dog that she runs across. Given the nature of the furry community and the visual vomit it spews on a daily basis, that should keep her busy for the rest of her natural life.

Ah, Keister. That shit brings me back. I was there when she was discovered by Portal Of Evil waaayyyy back in 2k1. Those were great times; everything she did was reposted and everyone was just in total awe of the power of THE KAK. I mean, she got her own comic, her own flash animation, and finally her own research organization headed by the enigmatic John Keel. It was awesome, but then, ONE DAY, FOR NO REASON, Keister became off-limits and I never fully understood WHY.

I guess everyone took issue with the fact that so many people they didn't like (furries of course) were jumping in on the bandwagon and bringing in their own piles of drama, which then created more drama and scared everyone else off. That and it was getting old fast.

The reason for her behavior is pretty straightforward. She really is retarded, suffering from what appears to be a hugely ironic combination of disorders. Beyond that there isn't much, besides the now-obvious fact that she's definitely not a fake.

Her crazy scribblings have a sort of random, Engrishy quality to them; as a result they tend to have a lasting appeal. Maybe that's what's kept the interest alive in the years after PoE dropped her like a burning turd.

Joke aside, I wouldn't be too surprised if news came in of a furry "Family" going on a murder spree to "liberate their animal brethren from the filthy hyoomans".

I guess that's one upside to furries being so lethargic. If it didn't take actual planning and effort not related to gathering together to swap wank material, furries would probably be doing an Army of the 12 Monkeys thing every other day.
