I'm wondering if Meat's ever gonna rip on Groat's "West Corner of the Park" strip?

Or would that just be beating a dead horse?

It's a bit hard to parody something which parodies itself. Not to mention that the content is SPECIFICALLY FURRY IN NATURE.

I'm planning on getting to it eventually, but I haven't read it yet it and I usually like to read the comic's entire run (or at least a reasonable portion) before I rag on it.

Anyway, if it's bad enough to pre-empt Kit 'n' Kaboodle...then it'll be here soon.

So... fucking... retarded...

I would also like to take the chance to congratulate Computolio on avoiding what could have been quite possibly the most trainwreck thread in existence.

Let's see...

Poor delivery...
Self-serving jokes...
Brandishes some kind of newfangled "anti-humor"...
Painful to read...

Yup, this sucks. Though the way it burns mah soul it standard for Furry comics...

Boy, there's something I haven't looked at in a while. I don't know if WCotP is really something that merits an analysis. The comic is really just too in-jokey and really of no note to provide anything to go on. It's your standard formula of "one sane guy amongst the zany antics" pat-yourself-on-the-back kind of stuff... and to top it off, it really has no context unless you're in with Groat's circle of friends. A few of them I recognize because I used to run with them in my MUCK days, but, beyond that, a few of the strips made the corner of my lip curl a couple of degrees, but that's it.

What really makes it kind of pathetic is the strip uses tired old jokes... but not classic tired old jokes. Every other strip you're almost guaranteed to see either a fox getting pulped by a sledgehammer; one of several horses getting pissed at someone trying to get a look at them naked, grope them, steal their underwear; some character obsessing on their trademark food item*; or some gun joke - often involving some little rat or something having romantic relations with the firearm of choice. So, the comic relies on tired old in-jokes, rather than anything recognizable enough to have mass appeal.

Of course, I assume Groat doesn't do this for mass appeal. He does it, like other furry artists, for the furries. And, hey, if the mundanes can't understand why someone's obsession for mint is funny, then I guess they're just not as enlightened as furries, right?

So, really, WCotP isn't even good enough to suck enough to analyze and mock. I'd be interested to see New Meat try... but I don't think he has much to go on. It's like trying to do a comic analysis of what people wrote in someone's birthday card.

*I've noticed through this comic and recalling my own experiences with furry characters and drawings that that seems to be the big thing furries use to make their character stand out... some inane "hook." Oooh.. he likes guns enough to masturbate on them..... whoa... he is crazy for mints... dude.. that furry character just can't stay out of panty drawers... haw haw haw.. that wolf obsesses on donuts. Such one-dimensional things used to really round out characters is just..... so furry.

Incidentally, I find the continued obsession with Sibe shown on this page to be amusing. The Gamera cartoons are kind of cute, too... except the fart one. My workplace has filled my quota of bathroom humor for the week.

On another note this comic embodies one of the things I dislike about furries... the tendency to latch on to some tragic event or passing to gain a little attention. Anytime someone even remotely famous passes away, they flock out of the woodwork to "pay their respects." Sure.. Bob Keeshan or Ray Charles died... but, maybe it's just me, but I can't get worked up about the death of a celebrity. Sure, they made enjoyable movies or music or whatever.. but I didn't know them. It's not like some part of my life has been torn asunder.. and the way every two-bit furry artist churns their bowels for an image and shoves it online just smacks of their tendency to play up any modicum of angst or suffering to draw attention to themselves. Okay.. maybe I've going too far in overlooking that the really arty farty sensitive types find their drawings the only way to express their emotions.. but it just comes off too much like "Yeah.. it's sad that he died... BUT IT'S EVEN SADDER HOW IT'S UPSET ME! WAAAUUGGGHHH!"

That ultra-faggy kangaroo popping a tear looks hilarious.

Who's Captain Kangaroo anyway?

Haven't seen the bastard around here.

"Captain Kangaroo" was the host of children's show much like Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. I may have my wires crossed here, but I think that was the show where Bill Cosby did his "picture pages" stint.

Anyway, it just smacks me as wrong when furries come out of the woodwork whenever a celebrity dies as an excuse to upload some picture of their character bawling their eyes out. Sure.. it's sad when anyone passes away, regardless of celebrity status.. but when someone like Chuck Jones dies, the furries really crawl out from under their rocks. I'm sure some are expressing their infintesimal shred of grief in the only way they know how.. but many just seem like they're taking advantage of someone's death to try and steal a bit of their limelight.

"Oh.. look at me and how emotionally bereft I am at the passing of . Pay attention to me and my angst!"

Like I said.. it's sad when anyone dies. And noteworthy figures like Reagan and such merit at least a moment's thought out of respect. Folks like Fred Rogers and Captain Kangaroo register in the sense that some of us remember them from childhood.... but it's not like we knew them personally or anything. But, IMO, all of this wringing of hands and blotting of tears in uploaded images is just an attempt at getting a bit of attention.

On the other hand, some of these furries might really be distraught. We all know how furry is a haven for folks with the Peter Pan syndrome... that just can't let go of stuff from their childhood. Comments like "Don't go, Cap'n. We still need you." just make you want to check to see if they ever cut the umbilical cord between this person and the tow-headed kid sitting in front of the boob tube 20 years ago. In other words, just more evidence of how tenaciously furries cling to the past and their childhood for whatever reason.

Y'don't get much more in touch with nature than realizing everything dies, fuzzballs.

Myes.. what Zen said...

very other strip you're almost guaranteed to see either a fox getting pulped by a sledgehammer; one of several horses
getting pissed at someone trying to get a look at them naked, grope them, steal their underwear; some character obsessing
on their trademark food item*; or some gun joke - often involving some little rat or something having romantic relations with
the firearm of choice. So, the comic relies on tired old in-jokes, rather than anything recognizable enough to have
mass appeal.

Then again...Ya know Wile E. is going to fail and fall and get flattened in the end... the fun bit is how it happens!
And sure it is in-jokey and for Jim's pals mostly... and his enemies!
I don't know them but I imagine I do..=) Just like we all now know Kimmaugh!

And Garfield is pretty repetitive and based on character obsessions.. but ...we all agreed earlier on other thread, it sucked ass! =)

It's like trying to do a comic analysis of what people wrote in someone's birthday card.

That sums it again up nicely! =)

It's really hard to read. At least shit like Kit N' Kay Boodle is fucked up enough to manage to be interesting for more than 30 seconds.

Only furries are capable of being this unfunny. The strip reads like it's coming from some sort of alien who has no concept of what those Earth people call humor.

The average Fyad Circlejerk* has more content than those strips. Same "let's just draw a bunch of us in the same scene for no reason", but with less humour value, and at least Fyad freely admit that it is, in fact, a circlejerk. And when it isn't a case of giving as many people as possible a one-shot cameo, it's either a page of pointless doodles or as stated before, tired old jokes.

*See also: FYAD FYAD LOL, the FYAD enchanted forest/circus/church/whatever, the FYAG Wrestling series, and a million and one other variations on the "a bunch of forumgoers as cartoon characters" theme.

That's a pretty damning critique right there.

I'm looking forward to that! A critique of something lame is usually a much better read than the thing itself. But I'm sure it'll take quite some persistent determination on your part to actually read all of WCotP. It gets boring really fast.

Good luck.

Then it shall be as inciteful and topical as TNM's political commentary. Two peas in a pod, so to speak.

I don't know what more you could possibly say about him. It would be like doing an article on Gonterman today. The only time I ever made fun of him was drawing his "character" looking like he does in real life and some dude saying "You are the fattest goat I've ever seen."

Oh yeah, one of my drawings are in that archive. ha ha!

Making fun of Jim Groat is like making fun of a political figure. You and everyone else has done it at least twice and it's gotten old no matter who it is. He's in a slow spiral, let him be.
