http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A62566-2004Oct25.html

"The video is shocking, even in this year's presidential campaign. It features images of dead Iraqi children, U.S. soldiers abusing inmates at Abu Ghraib prison -- and President Bush, whom it labels a terrorist, murderer and fascist.

It was not created by Democrat John F. Kerry's campaign. Or some outside Democratic-leaning group. It was created by Eric Blumrich, 34, a shaggy-haired animator from New Jersey. Incensed by the war in Iraq and the news media's coverage of it, he said he created the six-minute Internet video to publicize his personal views on the war. "

Blumrich's current site is;
http://www.bushflash.com/

I kinda miss the times when he drew those awesome watercolor pieces, he was most definitely an expert in the craft.

Kind of like the flash version Fahrenheit 9/11. Except far more slanted.

Hm. :? One toke over the line, sweet Jesus. One toke over the line...

Yes, pardon me, Snoop Dog, if I don't believe you when you say you don't care what candidate I vote for.

MTV did their usual "rock the vote" bit wherein they claimed objectivity, then immediately followed it up with some rapper or crap spewing convoluted statistics for jail time for drug offenders, followed by a clip of Bush pushing the war on drugs and Kerry practically lighting up a doobie with some kids.

Objective.. yeah....

What... you mean these people don't have enough capacity for deep political insight and analysis to make their opinions and recommendations important to us? Are you actually trying to suggest celebrity status doesn't give them some kind of mystical power of political divination that shows them which candidate is the truly right choice?

Yeah.. I don't even trust these guys when they try and tell me Direct TV spanks cable's ass.. you think I'm gonna listen to their political recommendations?

Oh... Uhm.

I studied advertising while I was on college. And, there, I learned that using celebrities to advertise a product is one of the most known 'persuasion techniques'.

Commonly called "testimonials," or "celebrity endorsements," this technique of persuasion says that consumers relate to the person(s) appearing in the ad: if the celebrity/athlete/star uses the product, then it must be good, so I will purchase it too.

In other words... if all those folks, artists and stuff are advertising Kerry... it's simply 'cause that technique works as an advertising technique.

Many other commercial brands rely heavily on this technique. I see nothing wrong with it.

Also, say your ARE a Celeb, and you hold political views. Don't you have the right to use whatever means at your disposal to voice those views?
The outspoken Celebrity thing is more like a bunch of random people who happen to have a media advantage then a bunch of people in which the stupid ones feel like they need to make a statement.
Just don't listen to them, I can't recall a single celebrity quote and I've been following (to some extent) the election every day.
The actors statements are worth as much to me as the next dude's on the street. And its not because of the specific politics voiced, most all of the actors are leftists, and I'm a progressive, but that doesn't mean I give a shit. If anything it is the fault of those who listen to the celebs (and/or our celeb-centric culture) because it gives them the feeling that they have an audience for their rants.

Name recognition is extremely important for people who don't know shit about the topic in question. For people with at least half a brain, it's pointless.

BALiBASE nailed it. I'm not saying it's wrong to have Ice Cube trying to convince you to vote for Kerry or whoever. I'm just saying that the people that do those commercials.. Snoop Dog, Nelly, Ted Nugent, various MTV personalities... are not exactly the people you believe have well-formed and insightful opinions about the whole shebang.. and, like MagKnightX, I don't know why Tom Cruise or Alec Baldwin or Meg Ryan think we give a flying flip about their opinions on politics.

"Dude.. you were convicted of snorting cocaine off of the ass crack of a dead hooker in your Beverly Hills mansion's bathroom. You really expect me to respect your views on the war on drugs?"

Not if they are left-wing or liberal apperently.

The people howling that these performers shouldn't be voicing thier opinions (because of thier fame???) won't even make the effort to apply this same logic if it was a pro-bush or pro-republican statement coming from a famous personality. Thats probably why I can't think of anything other than nameless (to me) lousy country singers. No one other than the Daily Show jumped on some of those guys for writing painfully embarassing songs with titles like "Iraq n'Roll" or songs about Osama bin Laden and whathaveyou

...too funny

No, they have every right. It's in the constitution.

The thing is, they shouldn't expect us to care, and it's just pathetic that they feel the need to use their status to tell us what they think.

They certainly have the right, regardless of which way they lean. Pro-Kerry, Pro-Bush... either way is equally inane. (FYI, I'm a registered democrat.) But, you don't see many speaking in favor of the republican side, so there's not much to kvetch about there, except the really crappy country singers.

On the democratic side, if someone could step up and seem even halfway intelligent, I'd be less inclinded to hit the mute button the moment I see some celebrity's face pasted against a red, white and blue background. Even if they had someone that seemed intelligent, regardless of their actual IQ, like Pierce Brosnan or something, I'd give them credit for good marketing. The republicans could at least get someone like Ben Stein, rather than Jeff Foxworthy saying "You know you're a republican when you have a petition to make the Wal Mart get rid of Skittles cuz it's got a rainbow! You know you're a republican when you put a gun rack on your kid's tricycle!"

But it's always either some rapper going "Yo yo yo! I got something on my mind! This country's in a bind! We got kicked in the tush when the election was stole by Bush! We got to get on track, and take the country back! Ship out George on the ferry, cast your vote for Kerry! Werd!" or some ditz in a shimmery top and pleather pants saying "Uhm, like, vote for Kerry, because... like... uhm.. Bush sucks an' stuff... an'.. an' he kicks puppies.. and he's a mean old doo-doo head. OH!.. and.. we should really do something about the rainforest an' stuff! Oh.. my stretch Hummer is here... G2G.. Luv2U.. CUL8R.. vote Kerry!"

Wow, I'm convinced, thanks Mr. Rapper and Mz. Dumbass! The problem is that there is a large enough population of people who will actually base that and other important life decisions based on celebrities. It's overwhelming how much time and effort people put into emulating celebrities. I can't really put this in a way that won't make me sound like "T3h @nt!c0nf0rm!$t' but can they just stop giving a shit? That's all, just stop giving a shit what these assclowns say.

Who knows if thats what they are doing tho .. Robbins when I heard some of the stuff he said early on, I just agreed with it. I didnt give a shit who he was. Whats the point of having fame if you arn't going to utilize it? If someones going to put your words in the newspaper the next day, then say what you want or what you think is important that people hear.

Same for the Dixie chicks, they made kind of an extreme statement, or at least thats not how I would have worded it - but look at how they got treated for it. That was crazy, they basically got crucified for that.

Not on the same level, but just about everything Kurt Vonnegut has said about everything going on in this country since 2001 till now has been just dead on. The guy is just brilliant. Its too bad his commentary I only ever found in left-wing mags and like sources.

Drunkards, druggies, religious nuts, racists. That's our founding fathers.

I guess you're right, since all of America was that way back then, and is to some degree like that today.

Honestly, the only thing I see different is the amount of money.
