Oh, Mr Kelly, will your wacky antics never cease?
I don't know what the deal is with the guy, but he's been responsible for some of the funniest shit I've ever seen with regards to furries. I'm not sure if he's slipping into the "I can't be bothered dealing with this shit" stage of fandom membership, or even if he was ever really in the fandom in the first place, but there are a great many clues lying around (some of which contradict each other). IT IS A MYSTERY.
Either way, he made the IRC permaban flash, so he's cool with me. |

From everything he's done, I can't imagine that he's not a furry, if only because it seems unlikley that he'd spend so much time and energy lampooning a arget if he didn't have some personal connection with it. Not that I'm saying he's bad. He's quite amusing, and the fact that he obviously desn't take himself very seriously makes up for whatever fucked-up shit he's churned out.
Half of "Living in Greytown," afterall, seemed to be about how humans were oppressing furries or something. Yet he actually pulled it off without it becoming total shit (like, say, Gene Catlow).
Didn't he used to date that Rabid girl? |

Dave Kelly and the Purple Pussy strips have been mentioned before, but that was probably on an earlier incarnation of this forum. I giess they deserve mention again.
I'm with GtG on this one- Kelly is a mystery. He's a furry, and yet at the same time he isn't. What's been leaked about his personal life is somewhat bizarre, and the man is seemingly obsessed with trying to become the next Robert Crumb. The SA flash he made is undoubtedly awesome, and he is talented.... I don't know what to think. |

well ive been thinking about it and it kind of ties into david's "i am a cheesy" thread
the way you guys are talking is exactly why people treat being furry like being gay...or at least this is part of it
this thread is almost verbatim like conversations in high school i remember
wondering if the lead singer of this band is gay or shit like that
if you like the comics - like it
if you dont - then dont
i like anthropomorphic animals in stories, so im more prone to like "furry" stuff
and id really like to see people start to judge things by thier merit and not just what catergory they fall under
i think when people have this attitude that if its furry it sucks ..is just as incorrect as when furries read nothign but furry comics and stuff done by other furries and everything else sucks
to me there aint much difference between a furry that feels somethign isnt "furry" enough
or the guy that sits there and fucking worries if the comic he is reading is furry or not
would it totally shatter you to learn that some artist or whatever is a furry?
ill say it again - LOTS of artists are fucked up
robert crumb was apperently really weird, dont know too much about him personally but i read a usenet thread earlier today where it was brought up that when he was growing up he was aroused by a picture of bugs bunny and carried it around with him everywhere until it finally disintigrated (i think was in a book or film about his life)
hows that for "proto-furry"
or judging by the way people like to draw the lines in the fandom
you start ending up with talented people like shawn keller being thrown into the "skunkfucker - furvert" catergory
(squirting-action! fursuits...nice)
i guess im getting confused again as to where exactly you guys stand
lets face the facts here, not all furries are fucked up
thats well known
the past few days in particular have shown me there is such a fucking huge range that people fall into its giving me a headache thinking about it
there are quite a few people who i think are talented who have produced comics in the past and are still "in" the fandom today (just to name 2 jp morgan and gallacci)
people who do anthro comics, theres no reason that if they get really good they wont be successful , with everyone
i guess im just saying you might be surprised to find out where different people measure up
if theres somethign im missing - please let me know
i think pretty soon itll be time for me to take a vacation from all this furry shit
for a little while |

actually let me clarify my previous post a little bit
theres nothing wrong with anthropomorphics in general
i think we can agree on that ?
for a stupid example:
like mickey mouse comicbooks
then theoretically if some comparable comic that came out
that just as "good"
only the writer/artist was a furry
whats the difference ?
i think stories that come out of furry fandom specifically and stuff that comes out a more mainstream sci fi , sometimes meet
thats all i was driving at
i think people tend to jump to the assumption that furries will always interject some indecypherable fannish furry-only stuff into whatever is produced ...
not only do i not feel that is the case AT ALL (bear in mind the furry comics i read are the paper ones, printed by SFA, radio,a nd MU ...HUGE difference between the furry webcomics that are out there ..if you dont know then just trust me )
im not saying the quality is always top notch ...this is small press were talking about here
but for example Bureau of Mana Investigation is one ive come to like more and more
is just a fantasy/action comic
with humans , furries (called "stuck-weres" inthe story), and mythological creatures too (a unicorn and demons)
and its a sort of "cop story"
a lot of furry stuff falls into just a form of sci-fi
also there are furry artists dedicated to the standard funny-animal comedy...this is actually an area i think is overlooked
(im aware of all the shitty un-funny furry webcomics that could be brought up right about now)
i mean is "FURRY" here being used ONLY in refernce to fucked up people?
because there are some guys out there who do all kinds of stuff like ozy and millie and scotty the commander kitty guy (roommates with blumrich)
they all link to each other (albert temple, thomas dye , arsenault, simpson)
altho i can really understand simpson avoiding the "furry" tag seeing as how even tho im not a huge ozy and millie fan ..it really is a genuinely well written , very high quality, intelligent strip
(or if hes NOT a furry, then hes just got a lot of furry cartoonist friends and fan art)
that strip would be at home in practically any newspaper nationwide (other than it may very well be one of the more meaningful strips on the comic page)
he was really going for syndication for a while , and probably needed as few hinderances as possible |
