A google search for a particular furry artist coughed up this thread on "Furry Art" from a Mexican forum. After a lot of links and Spanish text I don't understand, the thread's author posts three articles in English (starts about 10 posts down), evidently nicked from somewhere else. Two by "Anonymous": Furry Artwork - What Really Sells? and Fans of Furry - An Origin Theory, which has some interesting (and slightly odd) points, and one by Scott Malcomson, "Furry Artist / Reform Party Candidate for Governor of Arizona" (WTF?!): Understanding Furry Art Market Dynamics, which was toolongdidn'tread. These articles are at least 2 years old, but I thought they might interest some here; I can't recall coming across them before.

PS: the forum seems to be about all manner of things like politics, music, cooking, technology, whatever... and the "Furry Art" thread appears in the "Sexualidad" section. Very apt, actually.

The post about how the fandom thrives because the characters they draw are seen as "religious icons" made me laugh. Because it's true! These people probably do see these drawings as real and they feel they are obligated to keep drawing. How many furry artists name their characters? How many artists have "fursonas"? How many characters does the artist have altogether? Quite a lot, to all three qustions, I'm inclined to believe.

Interesting finds with some valid and not-so-valid points. Now if you excuse me, I must continue praying my novena to Our Lady of the Voluptuous Tiger-Striped Skunk.

Scott Malcomson, "Furry Artist / Reform Party Candidate for Governor of Arizona" (WTF?!)

"Then there is Scott Malcomson, who certainly isn't in it for the money. Malcomson was the Arizona candidate for governor in 1998, thanks to there being fewer than 1000 registered Reform voters in that state. He got on the ballot with fewer than 10 signatures, and ran a campaign of sorts that netted him fewer than 8000 votes. Malcomson is more famous on the Internet though, as a member of furry fandom, a subset of people who enjoy playing anthropomorphic animals and drawing pictures of them. On FurryMUCK, an interactive computer environment, Malcomson is Roy, and Roy is a balloonicorn. A whaticorn? A balloonicorn. His player info on Furry reads, in part: "Roy is the last survivor of the Eridani Light Horse's 71st Light Horse Regiment.

Once human, he found himself transformed into a living version of his company's symbolic mascot, and was teleported away to the Past and Future Inn, a multidimensional meeting place near a center of great magical power. He found he had some magical abilities, but due to his upbringing he doesn't use it much. Otherwise, he's yer classic ex-tanker veteran with a taste for fun and alcohol." A ballonicorn is an inflatable unicorn, you see. Malcomson is also an artist, and has furry art up on various places on the Internet, including this piece: http://users.transfur.com/morphy/image/image9.htm, which portrays a bipedal unicorn with human breasts and a vagina inside a giant bubble gum bubble.

I just like that quote somewhere in there like 'This means the reform party has had a televangelist, a pro wrestler, and a furry run for office...'

Malcolmson (Calbeck) was on here a long time ago bitching about the Minerva's Wedding article.

With my recent animosity towards Ebony, I almost sent this in PM. However, I do admit that Ebony has value here, and my animosity was not perpetual... only hitting a momentary critical mass with respect to his communication skills. I'm much better, now. Thank you for the flowers and cards. Seriously, Ebony, your presence here is of value.

But, I had to do this in the thread itself, just so everyone can know I'm bowing to 21st Century Digital Boy's skills as a wordsmith here. Not that I'm some paragon of journalism or anything, but, since I seem to be the one known for knowing my way around the English language..... or at least using it in excess.... I just had to tip my cap to CDB here for that eloquently simplistic, yet highly applicable description.

Not that I want to drag this thread screaming and kicking back on topic, but I'm a little curious as to the attitude towards furry art of "Sirio", who wrote most of the posts in the link... Can any Spanish-speaking forum members give a hint? Is it positive, negative, neutral, what?
