We're a few days away from ending 2004, and, as usual in these days, it's time to me to look back and see what I've achieved during this year and which are my plans and hopes for the next year.

While I was reviewing the little gallery of 'avatars' I've use this last year, memories of the forums where I've used them came to my memory. CYD isn't an exception.

And together with those memories of some memorable threads I've read here on CYD, a curious message, written by you on A.F.F. came to my mind. Thanks to Google Groups, I fetched the message, as it was written in January 1st, 2004.

Its title is "Crush Yiff Destroy: Losers of 2003", and this is the message:

Is there a larger group of flamers on the net than these 7 or so guys? I
mean really, this site and group have to be the most pathetic group of net
nerds I've ever seen. If one of them had half the balls to talk about people
in person like they do online I'd be shocked.

So many mouths and not an ounce of true talent among them.

Now that I've seen you have been posting around CYD for a while, I'd like to ask you if the perception you've got of the folks posting here, including myself, has changed, or if we're nominees for the "Losers of 2004" award too. Or if we're even worse than we were in 2003.

And, well, on unrelated news, I also want to wish you merry season holidays formerly known as christmas but renamed as season holidays in order to keep them politically correct and a happy 2005 plenty with comics and assorted happiness.

Sorry, didn't get to you post sooner, had to do what most able bodied men do this time of year, work.

I originally started regularly posting to CYD because I was frankly asked to I think by one of the co-mods here or something on a topic that related to me. As for the quality of folks posting her NOW, it's different than those posting here then. For one, Harem Mike doesn't leading the ring of topics here anymore. Back then, it seemed like damn near every thread started here was stupid shit started by him about crap people ten years ago stopped caring about an hour after it happened.

So yes, the quality of posters here has increased as, well the level of intelligent post (yourself included) though you still get your ass faced, I'm a Wanna Be Tom Arnold level comedians, but it's not as high as it used to be.

I still think many of the topics people bother wasting their brain power, time, and electricity on are pretty stupid and amount to even less than middle school bragging or name calling. Though granted sometimes it can be humorous.

The level of blind sided attacks on people how have nothing to do with here or anybody here has decreased as well, save for the occassional child bashing, which as I stated before, I'd figure would still be below what a grown man would do, but then I have to remember many folks on the net are still basement dwellers living off the scraps of my taxes to support their internet habit too, so I really can't expect anything better I suppose.

Overall, the convo here is entertaining when one wants to sorta dumb down the normal flow of information they may want to seek. There's some pretty decent guys here and some I'd probably just point at and laugh at if I met in person. Though I still think now as I thought then, that Collins is an artistic hack and I feel like I throw away 3 bucks everytime his work happens to appear in a publication I buy due to his lack of professional pride in the work that he submits for publication and lack of basic anatomy in drawing (well that and I can never look at a bambi movie again without thinking of tight black leather).

I wish a merry and happy end of 2004. Well, it's been interesting, if I have a say. In the later quadrant of the year, some arguments on the inside have popped out, and I must say they have been quite constructive. I can't say anyone misses Tyrant and Newt. I'm not posting about HOW MY LIFE CHANGED, as it really didn't. At least because of those reasons I mentioned. And remember! Santa does not live in the north pole, he lives in finland gaddammit!

I think if one is trying to genuinely sort out the woes that plague the fandom and ouline some sort of solution then, yeah, it's a waste of time and brainpower.

For the most part, however, a lot of the posts here, as I see it, are little more than barstool bull sessions. Take my "deconstruction" of the Gargoyles cartoon. As a serious commentary, it would be pretty inane and a waste of time. For pure entertainment... 100% shootin'-the-breeze with a beer in one hand and a wad of pretzels in the other kinds of conversations, however... it's not much different than any other similar time-wasting conversation, like hyperdrive physics in Star Wars... who would win in a fistfight, Superman or Captain Marvel... which OS sucks/rules most... which game system is better... who has the most badass car... just about any conversation involving football, basketball, or baseball... etc.... just one of those inane things we humans fill up so much time conversing about for fun.
