And the photo is located at the Gonterman's very own website... I think this pic would be a good illustration.

She looks like someone just pulled a gun on her.

I just realized one of the characteristics of Gonterman's eyes.... no reflection in the pupils/iris. You'd think anyone copying anime would incorporate those by default, but, aside from the very angular shape of them, Gonterman's eyes are characterized by irises and pupils with about as much depth as manhole covers.

That's partially why Gonterman eyes always look so goddamn creepy.

Also, the photo kinda reminds me of one of those Monchichi dolls. I think it's the hair. But the Monchichi is cuter, and that's saying a lot, because I always thought those were some of the ugliest dolls ever made.

I notice 3 common Fanboy Factors here.

1. Why do so many furs have huge thick-framed glasses that came out of an army surplus depot? We have the technology to make thin frames, and even thin lenses, even for strogner perscriptions. I think we should start a "Furry Glasses Charity" to give them our used frames.

2. Weight issue. Duh. Probably from spending too much time on FurryMUCK and chowing down on junk food to drown his sorrows in.

3. Hair. I mean, how hard is it to just get a nice buzz cut or a bit of gel?

I've noticed that the furs who hate their human bodies and want to be another species are usually just too lazy to actually go through the effort of taking care of themselves.

Actually, Gontefetish now is something like this:

"face-disfiguring beating by more popular girls ... like Copper she wrears a mask to hide her scarred face"

"THIS ONE HAS HER FACE PAINTED IN PLACE OF HER MASK"

GONTERWOMAN

but what I'm replacing it with could be no less fantastic and maybe even scary

I'm also not that ugly IRL. Corse I look like a 6'2" gay hobbit (if you can imagine such a thing) these days. Which I suppose is an improvement from the neo-nazi skinhead look I had a few years back... People were avoiding me in the street and everything. I could hear mothers telling their kids to 'stop staring at the strange man'.

But hark:
I can still see my feet.
I don't wear those beer bottle nerdspecs that half the furry scene seem to sport.
And I can benchpress my own weight. Well, I used to be able too...

Though without taking to much of the piss, it is kinda disheartening that so many furry artists are such fugly bastards. I mean, come on, gimme at least someone I might wanna have sex with!

My motivation? It would be my enjoyment over making a story that can brighten up the day of whoever's reading them, while not being all too saccarin like more popular stories in previous generations. (My philosophy, as you may have seen before, is "Disney Magic, Fox Attitude," which shows my desire to take the charm of more classic times and give them an envenlope-pushing twist) In these time and days in a post-9-11 world where reality can be so formidable that an escape is required, people like me are needed more than ever.

I heard I have really really beautiful eyes. I kinda had low success before, only had sex a few times, mainly by ending up in a situation like that, because of the lack of effort. I went to nightclubs to get myself arsed, not hooked with a girl. When I raised the effort, suddenly I started to get girls and noticed, man this isn't hard at all. I know this issue is a taboo and shit on the internet, but guys, if you want to get some, try, and you will succeed.

As long as we are discussing our looks, I look, in pictures and from a distance, like I'm short. About 5'5" short. But I'm 6'3". It's the weirdest thing.

Facial scarring from acne as a youth (not due to lack of cleaning, though, I took and still take at least 1 shower a day. You'd think that teh furrays could do it too... it's only 15 minutes away from their spooge, and if they hung some laminated prints up in the stall, it wouldn't even be that) sort of prevents me from looking good, as does my layer of blubber, no matter how striking my eyes may be. BUT AT LEAST I DON'T WEAR A MASK ALL THE TIME

(P. S. my mommy says I'm handsome :( )

I can't remember which LJ community it was, but they were saying all furry fans were butt-ugly.
So I said 'no they're not' and pasted three of pics of myself and sat back and waited for the flames. I was extremely bored that day, and they kept me entertained for hours. There was a split opinion that I was completely ugly (which is fine by me), or that I was a person that pretends I'm a furry fan to be popular.

How about NO.

How about NO.

Pretends to be a furry fan to be popular?! NO indeed. Pretending to be a furry fan would be instant public relations suicide. It's really weird how furrydumb is imbued with an utter lack of sense of reality. Furry isn't cool or popular anywhere outside furrydumb itself.

Thats a very good point actually. I can't see how that would help you pick up a girl/guy or brand new friends for that matter in the real world after all.

Do I qualify as a furry if I have a VCL, DA, SA and only post here and Pinks Realm? I think so, yet it has nothing to do with the real world that I've draw cartoon characters since I was 4. This is just a list of websites I frequently visit.... Where is the line on becoming a furry exactly, anyway?

You'll get very different answers to that question depending on who you ask. This has been discussed on other threads, too...

I'd say you're only furry if you claim to be yourself. Furries love to make claims like "if you have a photo of a cat on the wall, you're a furry" - but don't let other people define you, at least not from something as ultimately unimportant as your recreational preferences. I mean, I obviously have an interest in art, comics and animated films with cartoon animals in 'em, but I have plenty of other interests as well... that particular aspect is not something that defines who I am. At least it would only be a very small part of the definition. Personality, job, family, gender, nationality, ethnicity, political or religious conviction or lack thereof; those are the things people mostly use to describe themselves - depending on the circumstances. They might throw in that they really like football or ballet or Elvis, but only as an add-on, unless circumstances dictate that that is somehow important (like if you're on an internet forum about either of those subjects).

If someone says they're a furry, to me it says that they have an overly large fixation on one itty bitty aspect of life... or maybe rather that they have little actual life and have let their pastime take over as the most important thing. That's not too unusual, as evidenced by other fandoms where people gladly define themselves as trekkies, otaku, Elvis fans, whatever... I'm not saying it's necessarily a bad thing - to each his own and all that. But still, to me that sort of focus on and identification with one thing is not a sign of mental well-being.

Even if you end up drawing cartoon cats as a full-time job, I'd say that defines you as an artist or illustrator, not as a furry. But then, "furry" to me has a lot of negative implications - we inevitably end up with the wholesale acceptance of skunkhermtaurpedoscattentaclerape porn... and who the hell wants that just because they like making paintings of rabbits?

BTW, it's the "furry" thing I think is non-cool. Drawing funny animals can be seen as cool at least in some circles. If you're a childrens' books illustrator or an animator or have your own comic book or somesuch, you can impress some people with that. But being a furry? Either people don't know what it means, or they do and are either furries themselves, or they, like us, know all the horror stories and the negative implications... not cool at all.

Eh.

Charisma, why are either of us online on New Year's eve?

Anyway, happy New Year to all.

I think 'furry' on CYD carries alot of baggage, and generally seems to imply some sort of fringe fetish that is dressed up with anthropomorphic imagery.

If you're into drawing/writing/appreciating art, stories or costumes involving anthro animals as a hobby, I think the term 'funny animal type' or 'anthro type' or something would be more appropriate for this forum. Although some would also call those 'furry' without the negative connotation that CYD and mainstream society seems to put on it.

I enjoy writing, drawing and appreciating animal and anthro arts of all sorts, and I like to practice and study the ancient egyptian religion, without any of the fringe kinks or pathetic antics that accompany many in fandom. Furries would call me 'furry' but 'funny animal enthusiast' is probably more accurate here. I certainly don't obsess with 'funny animals', after all there is more than one thing to life, even if those things overlap.

I've spoken to other furs and they agree with me that, sadly, too many in fandom ARE in it for the kinks and fetishes, and not enough are into it for the art and cultural aspects. It's kinda sad since if I want people to do the egyptian thing with, I have to make sure they wont hump my Anubis statue or carve my Stitch plushie into a makeshift flowbee. =@_@=

Welcome Akhetnu nice post. I to enjoy Anthro arts and stories so long as their good such as Tall Tails which is a great comic series. You also study and practice the anicent Egyptian religon that's pretty cool even though I thought most of the practices where lost. I'm Coptic myself and wr're kind of a nice minority of Orthodox Christians in Egypt.

I know, its sad isn't it. I had to stay in to look after my autistic little sister as I let my mum have this year. At least one of us has to supervise her at all times. It wasn't as depressing as I thought though, we had a two-person party complete with karaoke, party snacks and party poppers etc.

That is a very good way of explaining furry though, Paul. Makes alot of sense. I'd say I was an illustartor that prefers to specialise in Anthropomorphs, and not just the animal kind.

I sat at home, alone, for no other reason that I couldn't be arsed to try and arrange anything or even find out if someone else had something going that I could invite myself to. This was the first New Year's eve I wasn't at a party/dinner... and the odd thing is I didn't mind. I enjoyed a nice quiet evening at home. It was just an unusual day to do that.

That is a very good way of explaining furry though, Paul. Makes alot of sense. I'd say I was an illustartor that prefers to specialise in Anthropomorphs, and not just the animal kind.

The funny thing is, for all furrydumb's claims that "furry" is about all manner of anthropomorphics - it really isn't. Most artists who draw "funny animals" are never thought of as furry artists, not even by furries. Like mouse said in another thread, by now "furry" is hardly even about cartoon animals anymore - it's about the furries themselves. One big self-insertion fanfic gone horribly wrong.

Coptics are interesting, actually. There's a church near me and I chatted it up with them about their language, which is rooted in ancient Hieratic. Although we do have plenty of ancient egyptian texts and such to work with on a practical level when reconstructing that religion. And all taxi drivers are indeed crazy.

Right the only exception (bringing up the whole 'furry as cool' thing earlier) is Im the type of spiteful person that is all about rubbing peoples faces in it :) Maybe not in the way you might think, rather, just using anything and everything as advantage... even a handicap.

Like a example might be: If I was a famous artist of some degree that everybody loved, I would personally make it a point to be as 'furry' as possible.. whatever the hell that means
Give people stuff they love, and at the same time inflict them with stuff they hate .. I'd be all over it. :)

or like if a furry was better at something than someone else , they could just hotdog that much harder IMO

I always like rooting for the underdog when it comes down to it :)

Heh, I know what you mean. Having a bit of fun is good, but how would you go about it practical terms? I mean, if you drew a comic, if it had all the usual quirks found in furry comics, it wouldn't be popular to begin with... except within the fandumb. And if the comic was just cool and good and appealed to all kinds of people and was genuinely popular, your readers wouldn't care much if you went around saying that you liked dressing up in a fursuit or whatever to appear "furry". Most people don't care what the artist behind a work is like. It's well-known that Picasso was a right bastard, but that doesn't detract from his art.

But are furries better at anything, except maybe angstwhoring? :P

That's what David Daveykins Foxfire Gonterman looks like IRL? Frankly I'm disappointed. I expected fat and thick glasses but where's the mullet? Where's the baseball cap with the raccoon tail? I guess the legacy is bigger than the man after all.

Hmmm... I wonder if this would an appropriate time to post my Logic paper on David Gonterman.
