Will some furry go batshit insane and kill a person, because they think they're a dragon or something. It's bound to happen sooner or later. Maybe after the trial and he gets the death penalty, he'll request that he's killed like his dragon forefathers by being lanced by a knight.

Does killing oneself count? Because that's already happened, you know.

No, just some furry that kills someone because "dey iz an amimal and amimals catch prey, hyoomans are bad. 4 legs good, 2 legs bad."

Four legs good, two legs better!

Also, who ate all my apples and drank all my milk?

Kinda sad. I had forgotten all about that.

The pigs need to be good leaders, you want a good leader don't you?

Didn't some kid kill himself so he could be the lion king or something?

No, not exactly.

First article.
Second article.

Explanation from "Rootdown":

On thursday, I was talking to Kevin after reading this last journal entry and decided on a whim to go out and see him. I asked if he wanted to come out to Manteca, and told him it would make him be glad to be alive. (What I said to him via AIM was, "You'll be like, 'Man, my life sucks, but at least I don't live in Manteca.'") There were a bit of connection difficulties and we wound up filibustering over two hours about how we were going to meet up, and eventually I decided against it. Because it was a spur of the moment sort of thing and the moment had long passed.

And now I feel kinda dumb about that decision. Because if he was in Manteca the only way he could have died would have been out of sheer boredom.

You probably don't know me. I had been posting comments here and there to Kevin's journal for the last few weeks under the name Rootdown and the rest of you that have been reading may have seen him mention a 910 or a Rootdown or a Diazynon in his posts; that's me.

I knew him first from Spindizzy, where he was a regular. My interest in him at first wasn't for any better reason than I found him to be consistently weird. And totally in earnest about the exceptionally curious notions he held.

Over the course of about the last four weeks I got to know him quite well. When I was able to decipher them, I found his thoughts about our perceptions of the world and freeing experience and all the fun stuff on the conceptual edge of science to be very interesting; and indeed we had a lot of things to talk about in those areas.

He was one of the very very few among the various communities of hardcore dragon and gryphon and furry admirers that took the time to persevere beyond the layers of jaded, curmudgeony troll that is Rootdown to discover that there might actually be an intelligent and sincere person in there somewhere who won't pass judgement on you if you actually try to be a friend. And so we had a sort of understanding.

Kevin wanted to find a way to escape. He wasn't very happy with what he saw to be limitations that were placed on him by our existence here on Earth and wanted to step outside those. He truly wanted to find some way to live out the life he had found in building the persona of Stars' Pyre and that ending this life would bring him a step closer to that one.

This wasn't his only motivation in the cause of his death; however. He was a terribly lonely individual who had a very difficult time making himself understood and finding sympathy with his views in others, and harbored a lot of bitterness and resentment toward some people very close to him on account of events that happened to him while he was growing up. He didn't give himself the time to work through these feelings or find a way to reconcile with these people.

Compounding all of these feelings was the recent death of a friend of his who he had intended to move in with and his difficulty in finding people to talk to when he needed it most.

Kevin was an incredibly intelligent kid. A few weeks ago, although I don't recall exactly what it was that brought it on, I called in sick to work and drove out to Berkeley to talk to him in person; and try to determine if there was something I could do to help him out of his psychological slump and get him interested in paying his rent and attending his classes and not kill himself and start living his life again. He knew that this was my express purpose in going out to see him and rather than get offended or defensive about it he seemed genuinely grateful for the interest in him.

He was a good guy. I don't expect his particular quest for a utopia has found it's conclusion just yet, but I have no doubt the answers to his questions are a bit more forthcoming, and that can't be a bad thing.

There was a lot he had to offer, and I really did want him to pursue a future here and find out what he could contribute and how. I hope that nobody is blaming themselves for his death. His reasons were deep-rooted and complicated and he had been thinking about them long and hard. He wanted the world to meet him on his terms and when finally came to the conclusion that it wasn't going to, he was done with it.

My sympathy is with those who knew him, those who loved him, and those who understood him. You're not likely to meet too many people quite like Kevin.

If you need to talk about it, or just need to talk, I can be reached via AIM under the username Diazynon, or emailed at mokele@hotmail.com.

Keep it real.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT, that's the famous furry suicide??? I live about five minutes away from that, and I remember this kid was the reason they put big ass bars on all the Evans hall windows.

Also, totally unrelated, I met the guy that wrote that article once. Not that that has anything to do with anything.

Rootdown also tried to persuade him to wear a long coat and fill the pockets with quarters and candy bars before he jumped.

I don't find it funny.

Being that I can recognize the line of seperation between Real Life and The Internet, neither do I.

Rootdown also tried to persuade him to wear a long coat and fill the pockets with quarters and candy bars before he jumped.

But I still had to laugh at that.

So he jumped huh? I don't think I'd ever do it that way. Kinda can't stop once you've started. (=

I have a hard time feeling sorry for guys like this. Mainly, people who kill themselves. I just can't bring m'self to shed a tear for suicide. Especially angst-related suicide. If they've gotcha kidnapped, and you need to bite down on that cyanide pill to keep them from getting the launch codes, fine. However, I'm not buying this "nobody loves me" crap. If the physically abused, mentally handicapped, and the author of "A Boy Called It" can all go about their lives not contemplating suicide, what's the excuse of John Q. Crybaby?

This example especially. I took a looksie 'round his lournal, and it was constant crying. Millions of people have it way worse off than this guy, yet he mopes and bitches and bitches and mopes.

Frankly, I'm suprised I never heard of this 'till now.

To quote the cop from the bridge jumping episode of Titus, "oh well, one less knob in the world".

Well, at least he didn't do anything as geeky as seppuku.

True story: I know of a guy who attempted seppuku over his internet girlfriend leaving him. And that guy was a piece of work, too. Obsessed with asian culture (yet totally ignorant to it), believed in the Illuminati (and that he was a member of it), fantasized about said girlfriend being raped by wolves, etc. I haven't heard from him in years, since he kinda vanished about the same time his former 'net girlfriend got the hots for my best friend, so maybe he went through with it.

The intellectual community truly morns him.
