If you've been to a con, used to be a furry or still ARE a furry and have met up with other furs from the web, who are they? Anyone seen or met some of the most famous or infamous?
Just curious as to whos actually seen who in the flesh really.....or fur (sorry, that was cheap one)

So far I've met RazorDragon, but you've probably not heard if him.
I hope to meet Pink for the first time this year though. We can hang out and paint mushrooms and all sorts of crazy shit. lol

So yeah, share your stories too.

Well, I'll admit I'm a furry. :)

I lead the community on Livejournal, nc_furs. We've had a few get-togethers, most of which involved either Art Jams or going to nightclubs. All in all, most of the furs around here are pretty normal (as far as furs go, anyway). We've got a few fursuiters, but none of 'em, as far as I know, are into the fursuit sex thing.
~edit~

Just as another note, my very best friend is a furry I met online. She only lives like 100 miles from me, and we visit one another at least once a month.

I've seen a few of the more well-known furries, because I've admittedly been to a couple of conventions (though all because they were convenient to get to; I don't see how anyone could do the whole plane thing, frankly, and often I didn't even get a room).

It's very rare that I agree to meet someone from the web, because average furries are usually uninteresting at best and just frightening at worst. As a notable exception, however, I did meet someone who ended up becoming one of my closest friends, though he's hardly an average furry.

Incidentally, the most notable con I've attended was the infamous Texas Furry Con. Sadly, I didn't get to experience TEH FUNY there firsthand, but there are plenty of stories I could tell nonetheless.

I went to an anime con a few years back, and it was an all-ages con. There were some furries there (of the freaky looking, unwashed basement dweller type) in artists alley. I remember thinking these had to be some of the ugliest men and women I had ever seen. There were like, three or four of them. They took up a very large portion of artist's alley and had snagged the best tables, the ones that everyone had to walk past first.

They had all this "yiff" and fetish artwork on display. This was my first exposure to furry sex, period. Most of the pictures were censored with tiny Post-It notes, but you could tell what was going on anyway. I got the feeling that most of the con attendees didn't appreciate them very much. I sure as hell didn't. They were taking up two tables apiece with their elaborate displays and I was crammed in the back with my sketchbook in my lap drawing commissions. There were kids there, and no one expressed concern that the wee ones were being exposed to this freaky ass shit.

Later on I went to a room party to watch Trigun or some shit and the furries crashed it with their yiffy sketchbooks and their plushes and their loud obnoxious talking and their funk. The woman in particular had this whole "I am a better otaku than you" attitude that I found grating. I finally got sick of them waving crudely drawn fox cocks under my nose and left.

Ever since then I have hated the furries. I wish I could remember who these asstards were, but it's been a few years and their names escape me.

I went to Anthrocon 2004, I got scared.. then I wore my bat suit and scared people. It worked out pretty well.
Also met a bunch of rather imfamous peoples there. Fuck if I can remember who though, I just remember gaining acces to the "exclusive" artists "playmouse" art jam because I roomed with one of the main organizers. I sat next to the likes of Max Blackrabbit and Cobalt, and watched people such as j3t and stickdevil and a bunch of others draw pron all over the place in sketchbooks being passed out thoughout the room.
It was kinda cool, ya know?
..kinda.

...what am I saying it was fuckin' badass...

A some con or another, I saw a bunch of furries at a booth pushing a furry magazine thing. I saw on the cover that it featured "Dave Kelly's Purple Pussy". I found it a little funny I guess. =\

When I still lived in the States, I attended a few furry cons. I know a few furries who live in the Bellevue and Tacoma area. I even lived not too far from them for awhile. Apart from those who usually attend every con (Groat and the like) I haven't really met anyone famous except for TDK. I never met Sibe (who is from the area) but he was the whitness for one of my best friend's wedding (which I was unable to attend).

The oddest thing I've ever personally seen at a con was a wedding at an Anthrocon some years ago. The only thing I could think of was, boy, this sure is a tacky place to say "I do" forever at. Though, I guess it would make remembering your anniversery easy.

Well that and the one of 2 MFMs I went to where there was a wedding of non-con goers who, in a pretty funny turn of event, had fursuiters in on their reception and where taking pictures with the wedding party and kids.

I want to meet Donotsue.

But other than that, most furcons are far from where I live and I've never met anyone I've known to be a furry. In some ways it seems it'd be like meeting a known pedophile; you think you know what you'd do in that kind of situation, but when it happens you're like "uh.. what do I do?? I can't just kill the guy right here in public..."

I have seen the occasional unkempt lardass or bearded dullard and wondered if maybe, just maybe... I'd found a soulmate/fuckbuddy.

Hmm, I've SEEN a lot of bigwig to middling-wig furries at these cons, but as for ones that I've actually interacted with...nobody really huge.

I know a couple people who might be on the furry B list, though. Talked to Gonterman on the AIM for whatever that's worth. I know Micahfennec, Rael the 80/20 bunny, and Dragonfly of "Latex Blue." They're all good people. Oh, and I once talked to Sibe on the phone.

I've only known Toivo Rovainen, Terrie Smith, Gallacci, and Tom Verre through mail... and that was close enough for me. Even to this day, I seem to get a letter from Rovainen forwarded from my old addresses about once a year. I dunno what's in them.. I just ditch them.

Other than that, I've had a few exchanges with Scott Alston through the phone. I never could quite place why he sounds the way he does. All I know is he was damned hard to understand.

I SAW Gene Catlow at CF9, I knew it was Gene, 'cause like, it was CF9 and he looked like Gene Catlow. I met (briefly) a couple of folk who I consider badass artists, but out of respect I decline to drop names.
I pretty much just drove up there (CF9 was about 30 mins from where I was living) for the day out of curiosity and looked around. Maybe I would have had roarin' good time had I decided to meet up with somebody there, if I could get over the overwhelming feeling in the air of "I'm willing to scritch you since your willing to scritch me since no 'normal' person would touch either of us" it sounds mean, but thats how I felt. I mean, if I walked into that place and it was a full blown roman orgy I would have felt more comfortable. Yet the rubydubbyness was too much for this furvert.

Strangely enough, a furry all the way from Norway is in my class at college. He draws mainly Sonic and anime stuff. Although its cool that we're both aware of all the same people within the furry community online, I tend to avoid him as he reminds me of a mixture of Avid from Bo'selecta and Dr Robotnik.

He actually won the college's halloween party's costume contest dressed as Dr Robotnik. He's quite scary.

To be honest, I have no idea who it was, lots fursuiters were in the area and pretty much in the way. I just remember being told the big to do was a wedding. I can't even remember what year that was, 99 or 2000.

So yeah, share your stories too.

I've known, talked to personally, and/or met almost any furry or 'person who's hung out in furry' who was popular back in the 90s with the exception of most of the west coast original freako crew of Confurence.. although I have met Merlino at comic-con. My list includes the old guard, the innocent/good ol' boys, the idiots, everyone.. Gallacci, R. Gibson, Groat, Beiro, Naylor, Shawn Keller, Chuck Melville, tygger, amara, xydexx, martin, winger, duane, Albert Temple, Paul Kidd, Conrad Wong, Jimmy Chin (whatever the hell happened to them?)... i could literally go on about 70 more names or more.

Much like other people here, my partner is a somewhat popular furry artist who knows almost everyone popular in furry, and via her even today I still meet the famous/infamous on a regular basis. I don't mind furries at all, they are nice enough, but I could do without meeting more. I would like to meet normal people for once in my life.

If they're reading this, i wonder if they know who i am. However, it can be deduced by a choice few who could look for certain things from looking at very old furry fanzines.

AMEN.

Since I pretty much gave up on most of the casual "fur" friends I had and concentrated on normal, local, sane, not-yiffy-furry friends, my social life has gotten so much better and stress-free.

Just wonderng, I guess for everyone in this thread, but why is being the casual acquantance of "popular" furries even worth mentioning? I know this is a furry-related website and all, but I don't think anyone here is going to be jumping up and down to get to know you better just because you drank a beer with so-and-so once.

However, those "popular" furs or their friends that have good stories of fanboy bizzareness or whatever, post away :)

Are you inviting people to e-stalk you? :)

Oh, and one "popular" fur I met was actually Shawntae "Ebonyleopard" Howard :) He was on some artist panel and I wound up asking him some technical question afterwards and he was all helpful and nice IRL. I also taught myself to draw using, among other things, some kind of character model sheets he had in some softbound book with a white cover and a Michele Light drawing on the front (I can't remember the title of it and have since sold it) where he left the construction lines in. I studied those and actually could mimick his art style pretty well after that.

I honestly assumed it was to show off how horribly close we got to the fandom, much like talking about ailments you have/had in life. I mean, that really was my train of thought when I was making my first post.

I guess also to prove some of us know more about furry than furries would like to believe. Too often in the past some furs would get all up in my business (online anyway) about how much I must hate furries and how little I must know about them. Something we all know well. Up to now they still don't understand we were chest deep in furry just as much as they were, we just went in a different direction with our lives instead of obsessing about furry.

Honestly the only reason I am here (and you might notice I'm not here often) is because of what I mentioned, my relationship and my other furry friends. It bothers sometimes I have to continue to live along with their hobby, but I love 'em so I sometimes need to vent.

Again, sorry to be bitchy, but are you inviting people to e-stalk you?

If they have little to no life, they can go right ahead. People finding out who I am is a huge disappointment. I'm nobody. Besides, I'm not dissing furs, I don't hate them and I'm not persecuting them. In fact I think all the stuff they do is great if that's what they like - more power to 'em, and more power to them getting together and having that freedom to be a community. I just happen to think their community and everything they do in it is incredibly corny - and the art sucks. That's my opinion, big fucking whoop. I'm sure with that all the furries are gonna come knocking on my door. Maybe if I was Hirtes I'd be a target, but I'm a nobody. Stalking me would be like a burrito-lover getting mad at me for not liking burritos. Hey, some people don't like burritos, big deal.

That's a really good point. :( Its funny to think that when other people are posting horrendous images from furry cons in the SA forums or POE or whatever, I (and I am sure others here) look at them and go "Hey, I know that person.. And that person. And met him once."

I've been thinking about jobs lately and evaluating what I am good at or know quite a lot about. Its scary to think that I've spent more time in furry and probably know more minutae about it than I do my chosen profession. If I could somehow be a "Furry fandom consultant" I'd make a good living. :)

interesting guess. he's one person I haven't met. Terrie too, haven't met her. Have no desire to, her art sucks. I'm nowhere near that popular. But if you want to think i'm glen wooten then that's cool.

My wedding for the record was at AAC98, it was by invitation of PeterCat and some other really nice folks, and was turned into the memory from Hell thanks to a much larger group of not-so-nice folks, who, when I ran into them face to face at AAC98 hadn't the balls to confront me openly and instead ran off on their e-mail and mailing list crusade against the injustice of letting "that nobody Wayd Wolf" get married in the middle of "their" convention illustrating quite well that I was never accepted as a "true furry" by the problem children.

Which is cool with me as these people, when I've run into them, at AAC98 and AC2K1, were... well let's just say unimpressive is a massive understatement. The geeks in tech support at my company are Chuck Norris and Bruce Willis compared to these cretins.

As to other furries, too many to mention, most were nice in person, some backstabbed at a distance, and others were no different no matter the distance. Of course, one word and no further elaboration, "Nekobe".

"Nekobe".

I met that weird fucker at a con.. He looked like that Peter Pan guy with the website that was popular for a while...

A local fur ("Matt") was at a con, and asked me to help him with his fursuit. I helped him zip up, then went along with him to keep him from falling down any stairs, since he apparantly couldn't see very well.

All was fine until we ran into Nekobe. He wanted to hug Matt, and I just stood to one side until I realized he wasn't letting Matt go. Then Matt gestured at me and I started to pull Nekobe off saying "Okay, thats enough."

Nekobe had this weird insane smile and was just staring at Matt while leaning against my hand. Matt went around behind me to hide and we both sort of backed up against the wall. I put my hand down because Nekobe stopped pushing and sort of backed off, and then Nekobe pushed past me and started trying to hug Matt again.

Matt said something that sounded very unhappy from inside the suit, and I got between them again. I got really angry that Nekobe was ignoring me and harassing my friend, so I physically pushed him away with a good amount of force. Luckily we were in a pretty public area, so he just sort of stumbled backwards and looked confused, then disappeared into the crowd.

I didn't know who he was or what his problem was until I saw that infamous "Nekobe Warning" webpage.
